 About PC-EPhone Page 1-1    AAbboouutt  PPCC--EEPPhhoonnee   Congratulations on purchasing the PC-EPhone, a Palm-Size PC(handheld PC) that is a combination of high technology from the areas of Mobile Computing and Wireless Communication. PC-EPhone is a mobile device powered by Microsoft Windows CE OS. The size and capabilities of the PC-EPhone let you keep your most important business and personal information current and close at hand. Through the self-developed personal information management programs, PC-EPhone enables you to check E-mail and manage your appointments and contacts in situations where your desktop PC is unavailable. This is made possible through a process of downloading the data stored on your desktop PC to your PC-EPhone, and then updating the information you have acquired on the road back to your desktop PC through synchronization. PC-EPhone offers you the highest quality in performance and battery life as well as a variety of programs and utilities planned and designed by CYBERBANK CORP. In addition, with VGA-level resolution (640x480, 200dpi), PC-EPhone offers you direct wireless access without adjusting sizes of Web Sites or user screens much. Also, in contrast to the existing PDA which needed separate cables or wireless modems for data communication, PC-EPhone fully supports voice and data communication, and wireless Internet all in one device. Although PC-EPhone has many features illustrated above, you will have no problems if you are familiar with Microsoft Windows series.   This guide is designed to help you get up and running quickly on your handheld. It describes all you need to know about how to use your PC-EPhone and the applications that come with it. After you become familiar with the basic functionality of your PC-EPhone, you can use the rest of this guide as a reference for less common tasks, for maintaining your PC-EPhone, and also as a source of information if your have problems operating it. With your PC-EPhone, you will no longer have trouble getting to meetings and appointments on time, remembering people’s names and personal details, or keeping track of all the items on your to do list. PC-EPhone can help you improve your track record in all these areas, both at work and at home. You can enter all your schedule details in Calendar so you can view them by the day, week, or month; you can even set an alarm to remind you of important meetings. Keep all your contact names, addresses, and other details in Contacts, so you can find them as soon as you need them. Add your tasks to Tasks, prioritize them so you don’t overlook them, and assign them a due date. To make sure you don’t lose any of this important information, you can synchronize your data with PIMSSync on your computer so you always have a backup copy.      IIII.. Voice Call Speaker Enables you hear voices when speaking with others.  2. Execute (A) Button Corresponds to the “Enter” button. Or, when the item is selected, pushing down this button makes it executed. User defines this button as another function. Page 2-2 Ch 2 3. Execute (B) Button User defines this button as another function. For more information on the definition of Buttons, refer to the Define Buttons of Chapter 3 the Preference PC-EPhone. The default is as follows : Execute (B) : Connect Internet  4. LED Light (right side) The LED flickers with a Red light when a Hard Reset (Cold Booting) is performed on your PC-EPhone; when a Power Save Mode is on. A Power Save Mode is performed with pressing down the power button on the right side of PC-EPhone for 2~3 seconds.    5. Microphone Used for speaking in the voice recordings. The microphone does not operate when the headset jack is connected.  6. Speaker   A built-in speaker in PC-EPhone. The microphone does not operate when the headset jack is connected.  7. USB & Power Port Connect your PC-EPhone to your desktop PC to transfer files or synchronize all PIMS data, or connect your PC-EPhone directly to the external power source. Note : the USB cradle must be plugged into an available USB port on the back of your desktop PC.  8. LED Light (Left side) A steady red light indicates that you device is being charged and a flickering green light indicates that charging is finished.  9. Hotkey for System    ①,②,③  : can be defined by user. Refer to the Define Buttons of Chapter 3 the Preference for PC-EPhone.   The default is as follows : Button I: help,  Button II: Memo,  Button III: Thin Client(MIWorld),   ④  Opens the MP3 Player with just a tap of your stylus. ⑤  Opens the Task Manager with just a tap of your stylus. ⑥  Opens the Control Panel with just a tap of your stylus.
Getting Started  Page 2-3   ⑦  Enables the screen to display with a brightest intensity for  about 20 seconds. ⑧  Enables you to use the preset keyboard. The preset keyboard is set as a default on the Input Panel of Control Panel. ⑨ corresponds to the Back space(←) key. ⑩ corresponds to the Enter key.  10. LCD Display Screen   With a 640 x 480 resolution, 256-color and 4” TFT LCD, the screen displays all running applications. It is touch-sensitive and responds to the stylus.      11. Hotkeys for Applications   Allows one-touch access to main applications ( Web Browser, E-mail, Contacts, Calendar, SMS). Select the corresponding Hot Key button to run a program.     12. Cover Protects the LCD screen.  13. Navigation Key  Always use the point of the stylus for tapping or making strokes on the handheld screen. Never use an actual pen, pencil, or other sharp object to write on the LCD screen.  If your PC-EPhone is turned off, pressing any Hot Keys does not activate your PC-EPhone and opens the corresponding applications.
Page 2-4 Ch 2                                Descriptions of icons on the Traybar of Taskbar    ① Displays the connection status of desktop PC through ActiveSync. When double-tapping this icon, the connection status of desktop PC dialog box appears. ② Displays the status of connection to the external power source. When double-tapping this icon, the status of Main & Backup battery dialog box appears. The types of icons are as follows: : External source,   : sufficient main battery,  : charging main battery,   : Insufficient main battery,   : charging backup battery,   : insufficient backup battery ③ Means PC-EPhone is connected to the network. The fee will be charged while this icon is displayed. So you have to disconnect the Internet or E-Mail programs after using them so that the fee is not charged. ④ The port manager that displays the yellow color meaning the voice call is available and displays the gray color above meaning the data communication is on. ⑤ The icon for the keyboard of PC-EPhone. When this icon is tapped, the keyboard is displayed which is preset at the Input Panel of Control Panel. When a keyboard is displayed and this icon is tapped one more time, the menu bar is displayed where you can select another keyboard. With DioPen, the keyboard and handwriting recognition are available, and TS Keyboard is used for MIWorld service. For more information on how to keyboard, refer to Appendix A.
Getting Started  Page 2-5   2) Right side         1. Power button Used to turn your PC-EPhone ON and OFF. The PC-EPhone is said to be in a Sleep Mode status when it is turned off. In Sleep Mode, all PC-EPhone functions are suspended and only the least amount of power needed to preserve data is supplied. Besides, there is the Power Save Mode, where pushing down the Power button on the right side of PC-EPhone leads it to during using the MP3 Player program. In this mode, all PC-EPhone functions are suspended and only the least amount of power needed to preserve data is supplied. You have to know that the right LED is flickering when the system is on the Power Save Mode.      2. Record button Enables you to execute the recording program or control recording functions. More specifically, when the PC-EPhone is turned on, you can execute the recording program by pressing it, and another press will start recording. Also, you can stop recording by pressing it while recording.    When you are not using your PC-EPhone, turn it off by pushing down the Power button so that the battery can be used more efficiently.   ② ①
Page 2-6 Ch 2 3) Left side & top       `      1. CF (CompactFlash) Card Slot   Enables you to install CF Type II Memory Card, LAN Card, and GPS Receiving Card. You may utilize it to your needs, for example, adding storage memory by purchasing a CF Card that meets standard requirements or connecting your PC-EPhone to a LAN.   2. Infrared Port Allows you to connect your PC-EPhone to your desktop PC via infrared. For more information, see “Chapter 4 Connecting to a desktop  PC”.   3. Headset Jack Enables you to connect the headset, which has the functions of earphone and microphone. You can use it to speak or listen to MP3 music files. (Contact your local dealer on where to buy.) ① ② ③
Getting Started  Page 2-7   4) Back                 1. Battery Is the main battery that supplies external power to your PC-EPhone. For more information, see the Exchanging and Installing the Batteries section in chapter 3.    2. Battery Lock Performs two main functions. This locks the battery into place to prevent it from being detached, when it is installed on the battery slot of PC-EPhone. Also, it enables your PC-EPhone to use power from its internal backup battery so as not to lose data while changing the battery.               Exchange batteries quickly. If your PC-EPhone is neglected for a long time with its battery detached, the Backup Battery becomes fully drained and the data stored in the RAM will be lost. To turn off your PC-EPhone,. Push down the POWER button on the right side of your PC-EPhone, in stead of not moving the Battery Lock downward. ⑤ ② ③ ④
Page 2-8 Ch 2 3. Reset Button When your PC-EPhone is running slow or improperly, use the stylus to press the Reset button to reset the system. There are three kinds of Resets: Soft Reset, and Hard Reset. You can perform a Soft Reset by pressing the Reset button with the stylus. A Hard Reset requires you to simultaneously press the Reset button and the Power button on the right side, and then let go of the Reset button first and of the Power button about 0.5 second later. For more information, see the Resetting systems section in Chapter 3 .          4. Stylus You can use the stylus in much the same way you would use a mouse on the desktop PC. Use it to run programs and to press the Reset button. It can be adjustable as follows:                   When you perform Soft Reset, you will lose all unsaved data. Be sure to save all data before performing it. Also, when you perform Hard Reset, you will lose all information that is stored in the RAM. Be sure to save all data using ActiveSync or system Backup utility before you perform it. For more information on backup/restore, see ‘Chapter 5 Backing up and Restoring Data’ Do not touch the screen with any other sharp objects other than the enclosed stylus. Otherwise, the LCD Display screen may be damaged.

Page 2-10 Ch 2 (2) Connecting the Cradle to USB cable & Power cable The cradle that comes with your PC-EPhone enables you to synchronize the information on your PC-EPhone with desktop PC using ActiveSync. USB cable is used for transferring data between PC-EPhone and desktop PC. The power cable is connected to PC-EPhone so that it could provide the battery charging circuit with power.                    (3) cautions when handling your PC-EPhone   l Do not place heavy objects on your PC-EPhone. Your PC-EPhone may be damaged.   l Do not store near a strong magnetic force.   l Dropping your PC-EPhone and creating a strong impact or using excessive force on it may result in damage or malfunctioning.   l Getting your PC-EPhone wet in the rain or spilling some water on it may result in a break down. l Do not voluntarily disassemble, repair, or assemble your PC-EPhone. If it needs to be repaired, contact the customer support center. l Be sure to use the stylus that comes with your PC-EPhone when using the touch screen. Using your fingertips or other sharp objects may cause damage to the touch screen so as to dull the character recognition function and cause other defects.  Make sure you are using the right port for each cable : Power cable and USB cable.
Getting Started  Page 2-11   l Your PC-EPhone must be used in the following temperature conditions due to the characteristics of the LCD. If used in conditions outside this range, malfunctions and breakdowns may occur. (Temperature conditions: 0 ~ 40°C / 32 ~ 104°F) l When removing dirt or other residue, use a soft cloth.   l When the battery’s capacity is insufficient, either charge it or exchange it with a fully charged battery as quickly as possible. Important data stored in the memory will be lost if the battery is completely drained.

(1) Installing the Battery to PC-EPhone Install the main battery to your PC-EPhone as shown below.                   The Main Battery may be drained during the transportation from the factory to the consumer; therefore you had better connect the external power to the cradle and place your PC-EPhone in it in order to charge the battery when using your PC-EPhone for the first time.    (2) Check the following operations of your PC-EPhone   After connecting your PC-EPhone to a power source and pressing the Power button, the CYBERBANK logo will be displayed for approximately 2 seconds, and then gives way to a display that will help you calibrate the touch screen.   A target (+) will move in the order of “center → upper left → lower left → lower right → upper right”, to different locations on your screen. Since calibrating the touch screen has a direct affect on the recognition ability of your touch screen, be sure to accurately tap the center of the target (+) with your stylus. For more information, see the Setting PC -EPhone Preferences section in Chapter 3 .  (3) Setting System Preferences Before using your PC-EPhone, you should customize it to your needs by setting basic system preferences in the Control Panel. You may also set preferences during use. On the Start menu, tap Settings, and then point to Control Panel and set system configurations. For more information, see the Setting PC -EPhone section in Chapter 3.   Move the Battery Lock downward and place the battery in the slot leaving 4 ~ 5 mm space and push it firmly, and be careful not to get the battery caught in the groove of PC-EPhone’s battery slot. While inserting the battery, the battery slot can be damaged if excessive force is used. And then move the Battery Lock upward. leaving 4~5mm space and push

SSeettttiinngg  PPCC--EEPPhhoonnee  PPrreeffeerreenncceess  Set and adjust basic system settings before using your PC-EPhone to customize it for your usage. On the Start menu, point to Settings, tap Control Panel, and the following display will appear.            Double-tap on the icon of your selection. A tap on the OK button on the corresponding settings applies all changes to the settings.  (1) Define Buttons         This enables you to set up the definable buttons on your PC-EPhone. Page 3-2 Ch 3 The preset for those buttons are as follows:   Button I : Help Button II : Memo Button III : MIWorld Service Execute A : Enter Key Execute B : Internet Explorer In order to define those as others, select the item you want to change and select the corresponding item on the selection option box on the right.   (2) Communications 1) Device Name   enables you to set a device name to differentiate the device from others.          2) PC Connection   this enables you to set options for establishing a connection to your desktop PC.                The device name is set as PC-Phone2 by default.
 PC-EPhone Customizing & Maintenance  Page 3-3   (3) Date/Time Set the Year, Month, Day, Time, and select the Standard Time Zone and Daylight savings time and tap the Apply button and the current time is automatically set. However, if you want to set time manually, select the Manual option box.         (4) Dialing This allows you to create dialing locations and set dialing options.         (5) Display 1) Background   You can change the wallpaper (BMP) using the Browse… button.         2) Adjusting brightness This enables you to adjust the LCD brightness of PC-EPhone, depending on the In Use or On the Power Saving Mode.
Page 3-4 Ch 3             (6) Input        This enables you to set up the Input Panel so that the keyboard you want would appear when you select the Input on the System HotKey panel or the Diopen icon (    )on the traybar harbored on the bottom of the touch screen. For more information on the Keyboard mounted on your PC-EPhone, refer to Appendix A.   (7) Keyboard This enables you to control how quickly characters respond to pressing a key on your keyboard (Repeat delay and Repeat rate).          When the brightness is high, you cannot use PC-EPhone longer owing to the battery drainage. You are recommended not to adjust the brightness if it is not hard to see the screen under the daylight.
