4Installing the DWL-AG520 Wireless PCIAdapter in Your ComputerA. Make sure to turn off your computer and unplug the power cordbefore you begin. Remove the back or side cover of the com-puter.B.Carefully guide the DWL-AG520’s antenna through the PCIbracket opening adjacent to the PCI slot you intend to use for theDWL-AB520.C. Install the DWL-AG520 carefully,and firmly set it into the availablePCI slot (which is typically whiteor cream-colored).D. Secure the DWL-AG520’s backpanel bracket with its mountingscrew.E. Replace the computer’s cover.To avoid damage  caused by static electricity, makesure to properly ground yourself by first touching ametal part of your computer to discharge any staticelectricity before working with the DWL-AG520.

7For Windows 2000, thisDigital Signature NotFound screen may appearafter your computer restarts.  The D-Link driver software for this device is  undergoing Windows Logo testing. Microsoft  certification is pending.Click Yes to finalize theinstallation.Your Installation is Complete!Continued...After you’ve continued in Windows 2000, Me, or 98SE, the D-Link Air Xpert DWL-AG520 Configuration Utility will automatically start and the utility icon willappear in the bottom right hand corner of the desktop screen (systray). If thisicon appears GREEN, then you have successfully installed the DWL-AG520,are connected to a wireless network and are ready to communicate!Double-click the utility icon touse the configuration utility.If the utility icon does not appear,double-click the shortcut icon thathas appeared on your desktop.

SSID: The Service SetIdentifier is the nameassigned to the wirelessnetwork. The factorySSID setting is set todefault.F.  TxRate: The defaultsetting is Auto; meaning,TxRate settings areautomatically determinedby the DWL-AG520depending on thedistance from the accesspoint. H. Signal Strength: Displays the Link Quality for theDWL-AG520 wireless connection to the access point.The Signal Strength represents the wireless signalbetween the access point and the DWL-AG520. Thepercentage coincides with the graphical bar.G. Channel: Displays the channelinformation. By default, the channel isset to 6. Please note that the DWL-AG520 will automatically adjust channeldepending on the Access Point.ECDFBAGHIC. Frequency:Displays thecurrent fre-quency usedby the adapter.D. Wireless Mode: The factory setting is set to Infrastructure. Ad-Hoc mode is used forpeer-to-peer networking.E. Encryption: Displays the current encryption status of the wireless connection.I. PacketCount: Graphi-cally displaysthe statistics ofdata transmittedand received.
10J. SSID: The Service SetIdentifier is the name as-signed to the wirelessnetwork. The factory SSIDsetting is set to default. Makechanges here to match theSSID on existing WirelessRouter or Access Point.K. Wireless Mode:The factory setting isset to Infrastructure.Ad-Hoc mode is usedfor peer-to-peernetworking.L. Data Encryption: Thedefault setting is set toDisabled.  The adaptersupports WEP and AESwhen encryption is enabled.M. Authentication: You can specifythe authentication mode for thewireless network.  The defaultsetting is set to Open Authentica-tion.N. Key Length: When encryption is enabled,you will have the option to specify the level andkey format of the encryption used.  Select theappropriate Key Index : 1-4 and enter ACSII orhexadecimal digits in the appropriate field.JKLMN
