6D-Link DCH-S165 User ManualSection 2 - InstallationWireless Installation FactorsThe mydlink™ Wi-Fi Smart Sound Detector lets you automate appliances using your existing wireless network. Keep in mind, however, that the number, thickness, and location of walls, ceilings, or other objects that the wireless signals must pass through, may limit the range. Typical ranges vary depending on the types of materials and background RF (radio frequency) noise in your home or business. The key to maximizing wireless range is to follow these basic guidelines:1. Keep the number of walls and ceilings between the extender and other network devices to a minimum - each wall or ceiling can reduce your adapter’s range by up to 98 feet (30 meters). Position your devices so that the number of walls or ceilings is minimized. 2. Be aware of the direct line between network devices. At a 45-degree angle, a wall that is 0.5 meters thick (1.5 feet) appears to be almost 1 meter (3 feet) thick. At a 2-degree angle it can appear over 14 meters (45 feet) thick! Position devices so that the signal will travel straight through a wall or ceiling (instead of at an angle) for better reception. 3. Building materials make a dierence. A solid metal door or aluminum studs may have a negative eect on range. Try to position access points, wireless routers, and computers so that the signal passes through drywall or open doorways. Materials and objects such as glass, steel, metal, walls with insulation, water (sh tanks), mirrors, le cabinets, brick, and concrete can degrade your wireless signal. 4. Keep your product away (at least 3-6 feet or 1-2 meters) from electrical devices or appliances that generate RF noise. 5. If you are using 2.4 GHz cordless phones or X-10 (wireless products such as ceiling fans, lights, and home security systems), your wireless connection may degrade dramatically or drop completely. Make sure your 2.4 GHz phone base is as far away from your wireless devices as possible. The base transmits a signal even if the phone in not in use.

Choose a power outlet for your DCH-S165 that has direct line-of-sight to the alarm that your mydlink™ Wi-Fi Smart Sound Detector will be detecting. The siren source must be within a 15-meter radius of the DCH-S165. This app will walk you through installing and conguring your DCH-S165.Step 2:Launch the mydlink Home app and create a new account or sign in to your existing account.Step 1:On your mobile device, download mydlink Home by going to mydlinkhomeapp.dlink.com, or by searching for mydlink Home in the iTunes App Store or Google Play.Step 3:After logging in, tap the Settings icon in the top-left corner, select Add New Device, and follow the instructions.Step 4:When you are asked to scan a QR code, use the code on the Quick Install Card in your package.Congratulations, your DCH-S165 is now ready to use!Setting Up Your DeviceNote:iOS: If you are asked about allowing the app to access your location, select Allow.Android: Make sure location services are turned on in your phone’s settings.

To test the alarm, tap on either Smoke Alarm or CO Alarm and the LED on the front of the device will ash while the app will sound a T3 or T4 standard alarm.This page will show detailed information about the product and your network. You can also perform a factory reset here by tapping Reset.To change the device name or associated icon, tap the name or the icon respectively, and enter the new name or use the menu to select the new icon.

Please refer to the user manual for the wireless router you want to connect to make sure you understand how to enable WPS. Once you know, follow the steps below:Step 1 - Press the WPS button on the DCH-S165 for about 1 second. The LED on the device will start to blink.Step 2 - Within 120 seconds, press the WPS button on your wireless device.Step 3 - Allow up to 1 minute to congure. Once the LED light stops blinking and turns solid green, you will be connected and your wireless connection will be secured with WPA2.WPS Button

To reset the device, locatethe Reset button on the side of the device. With the device plugged in, press and hold the Reset button for about 10 secondsuntil the Power LED turns red.Why can’t I connect to my wireless router?If you are having trouble connecting to your wireless router, try plugging the DCH-S165 into a location that is closer to yourrouter. After the Power LED turns solid green, you can unplug the mydlink™ Wi-Fi Smart Sound Detector and move it to the desired location.Where can I nd the mydlink™ Home app?You may download the free mydlink™ Home app from the App Store (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) or Google Play (Android).Search for the mydlink™ Home app by typing in “mydlink Home”.How does the mydlink™ Wi-Fi Smart Sound Detector work while I am away from home?Remote access of the mydlink™ Wi-Fi Smart Sound Detector is enabled once you have registered and linked your DCH-S165 through mydlink.
