General Description 9450 (DB-83“) is basically a cordless telephone with 1 external line, single handset and digital answer machine embedded for the U.S. market, using DS/SST (Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Technology) over 902 ~ 928 MHZ. Lifi the handset and press , the PHONE led on handset will light and simultaneously the IN USE LED on the base will flash. 3. When you hear a dial tone, dial the desired phone number. 4. If you misdial, simply press the m button to disconnect the line. Afier waiting for a couple of seconds, press the m button again to get a new dial tone. 5. Toendacall,placethehandsetintothebaseorpress-. Receiving a Call 1. Ifthehandset isout ofcradle, press the-button onthe handsetto answera call. Memory Feature You can store up to 20 numbers in memory, then dial a stored number by pressing a one-digit memory location number. A. To Program a Number into Memory 1. Pick up the handset 2, At standby mode, press and release The m USE led will flash. 3. Enter telephone number (up to 16 digits). Ifyou accidentally press a 17“ digit, or if you pause more than 30 seconds while programming, an error tone will sound and you will have to reprogram the number. 4. Pres and release MEMORY button again, then a two—digit number (1-20) for the memory location where the number is to be stored. You will hear a beep that confirms the number was stored properly and the IN USE LED will stop blinking. Repeat the above steps to program another telephone number, assigning each phone number to a different number location. B. To Dial a Number Stored in Memory 1. Pick up the handset 2. Press the m button. The l'N USE LED on the handset will be lit. 3. Press m . 4. Press assigned number button from 1 to 20. The number you have stored will be dialed automatically. ' C. To Change a Stored Phone Number 1. Pick up the handset 2. Press button at standby mode, the m USE LED will flash. 3. Dial a desired new telephone number. 4 Press button again, then a number button for the memory location (from 1 to 20) where the new phone number is to be stored. You will hear a beep confirming the new phone number has been stored. Pause ‘ i In some circumstance, you need to store a pause when you registering a telephone number in memory. To do 30, press ®w enter a 2-second pause. NOTE: Each pause you store is counted as a digit. You can store up to 16 digits in each memory location. Last Number Redial Whenever you make a telephone call, this imit will automatically store the number (up to 32 digits) you just dialed in its memory. 1. Press- and wait forthe m light to go on. . 2. When you hear a dial tone, press m instead of entering the telephone number when you want to redial. The previous number stored in memory will be replaced by a new one whenever you dial a new number. Flash Press to activate custom-calling service such as Call Waiting or 3-wny Calling. You may have to press other buttons before or after as explained in custom—calling instructions provided by your local telephone service company. - Temporary Tone In pulse-dialing mode, you can access bank facilities, telephone answering machines, etc, by simply pressing ‘ key to get into the tone mode temporary. This phone will automatically return to dial pulse (rotary) dialing when you end the call. Volume Controls Follow the instructions below to set the handset volume and/or ringer control: A. Handset Volume Control Press the VOL. UP / VOL. DOWN buttons on the handset to adjust the handset volume toward a more comfortable listening level. This will not effect what the other party is hearing. B. Ringer On/Off Control You can mm the ringer on the handset on or off. Set RINGER on the side of the handset to the position you want Page & Handset Locator The page feature allows you to signal someone at the handset from the base. 0 Make sure the handset in use light is not lit on the base. 0 Press the PAGE button on the base. A 2-part paging tone will sound at the handset. NOTE: The handset ringer switch must be set to ON to operate the page feature. To cancel the page fimetion: 1. Press the PAGE button on the base. 2. Answering System Operation There are approximately 14 minutes of total recording time, including OGM and silence compression, shared by your armmmcement and incoming messages. The shorter your announcement, the more time for incoming message. Remember to record your OGM no longer than 60 seconds. To Turn the System On/Ol'f/or to “Answer Only” Mode? Before using the TAD system, you have to tumthe system on/off, or set the system to Answer Only mode. When setthe systemon, thisunitis readytoanswerandrecordcalls. When set the system off, this unit cannot activate the TAD functions. When set for Answer Only mode, your system will answer incoming calls, pla your announcement and then hang up without recording messages Operation at the Base 1. Press the [ALT—WET] key to toggle between On / Ot’f/ Answer Only Mode. Operation Using the Cordless Handset 1. Press m button. 2. Press 2] (Change) and El (Answer) to toggle between On, OH and Answer Only Mode. Remote Control (Operation Using an External Phone): I. Dial yotn' telephone nlnnber using an external phone, your answering system will pick up the phone and announce “Answer Off”. 2. Enter your PIN number (default is 50) within 20 seconds, the TAD system will be turned on remotely. 3. Press E (Change) and [1 (Answer) to toggle between On, Offand Answer Only Mode. NOTE: When you turn on the TAD system, the Message LED will flash if there is a new ICM waiting for being retrieved. If not, the LED will be lighted on. When you turn the TAD system off, the message center LED and mailboxl/mailboxz LED will turn off simultaneously. Announcements to Callers You can record 2 diflerent announcements on this unit: Recording and Answer only. When you set the system ON, it will answer and record calls. When you set the TAD system to the “Answer Only” mode, it will answer calls and play the announcement, but not record messages. A. Recording Outgoing Messages (OGM) You can record you armouncements either using the cordless handset or an external telephone. Use the Cordless Handset to Record your OGM 1. Press button on the handset. 2. Press 3 CHANGE), then EkANNC) The system beeps once when it begins to record. 3. Speak towards the microphone in a normal tone of voice. -____--------gg_ 4. Press (STOP) button when you finish recording. Your announcement will play back automatically. 5. Press button again to retin'n to standby mode. (For more information on Message Retrieval floor the Handset, please refer to 5.29) Use an External Telephone to Record your OGM l. Dial the telephone number. 2. When the TAD system picks up the phone afler 10 rings, enter your PIN number (default is 50). 3. Proceed with above steps from 2 to 5. (For more details on remote control, please refer to 5.28) NOTE: This unit has two personalized mailboxes and one message center. Callers can leave messages'in either mailbox or message center. Your annormeement has to notify the callers to press E , followed by El , E or afier your OGM playback and the beep tone or their message recording. Rememberto notify the callers to keep recording message no longer than 60 seconds. B. To Replay the Announcement at Any Time: fliesystemmustbesettoONorAnswerOnlymode. Use the Base to replay the announcement 1. Press and release the @ button. 2. The outgoing amouncement will play back. While your system plays an armounoement, the Message Window shows “PL”(Play). 3. To stop OGM playing, press and release button Operation from the Cordless Handset l. PreesREM la, 2. Press and release the E (0) button. »3. The outgoing announcement will play back. While your system plays an announcement, the Message Window shows “PL"(Plny). 4. To stop OGM playing, press and release (5) button. Remote Control 1. Dial the telephone number. 2. When the TAD system picks up the phone afier 10 rings, enter your PIN number (default is 50). 3. Proceed with the above steps from 2 to 4. ‘ Volume Control (8 steps) Use the OLUME UPIDO on the base to set the answering system volume to your required sound level. Voice Time/Day Stamp This unit records the time and day at the beginning of each message. You may set the time/day from the base, handset, or an extemal telephone. The handset must be fully charged before using this mode. NOTE: If you did not set the time in advance, the time/day stamp will not be announced. To Set Time/Day from the Base 1. Press button for more than 2 seconds; the system will announce “Monday” or the currently day setting. 2. Press and release to move the setting to a day later in the week, or pres to move the setting to a day earlier on the week. Each time you press one of these buttons, the system will announce the day. 3. When you hear the correct day, press and release to confirm the day setting and go to set the hour. The system will annotmce “12:00 AM” or the currently hour setting. 4. Press and release @ or to move the hour setting down or Up (eg.1 100, 2:00, etc). 5. Each time you press one of these buttons, the system will announce the hour. When you hear the correct hour, press and release to confirm the hour setting and then go to set minutes. The systun will announce “0” or currently set minute. 6. Press and release -to or -to move the minutes setting down or up (10, 20,ete.). 7. Each time you press one of these buttons, the system will announce the minute. When you hear correct minute, press E‘lOCK to confirm the minute setting. The system will then announce the new day/time setting NOTE: If you did not complete all the steps above, or if you pause over 20 seconds between any two steps, the system will revert to the previous setting. To Operate from the Cordless Handset 1. Press . 2. Proceed withthe above steps flour 1 to 6. 3. Press ® to confirm the minute setting. The system will then announce the new day/time and then beep twice to confirm settings. Remote Control 1. Dial the telephone number 2. When the TAD pick up the phone, enter your PIN number (default is 50) 3. Press thenfi the system will announce “Monday” or the currently set day. 4. Press to procwd forwards or Etc go backward to select a correct day. 5. Press to confirm day setting. The system will annotmce “12:00 AM” or currently set hour for the hour setting. 6. Press Em proceed forward ME to go backward to select a correct hour. 7. Press to confirm the hour setfing. The system will announce “0” or currently set minute for the minute setting. 8. Press to proceed forward or E] to go backward to select a correct minute. 9. Press to confirm time setting. The system will announce the time set by users. ‘ Toll Saver (TS) I Ringer Select Use the switch at the base to select the number of times (4,7 or TS) the phone rings before the system answers. The system will answer all calls on the fourth tin The system answer all calls on the seventh The system will answer calls on the fourth ring only if they have new messages. If no new messages have been recorded, the system Toll Saver Set the ring select switch to TS when you will be calling from another location to check for messages. If you have new messages waiting that you have not listened to yet, the system will answer afler four rings. If there are no new messages, the phone will ring at lease seven times before the system answers. You can then hang up alter the fifth rings to avoid paying long distance charge. Voice Activated Recording (V OX) To stop unnecessary pause due to hang-up and to save message capacity, your unit will automatically stop recording and hang up afier 7 seconds of silence. Digital Message Indicator Your system provides two methods of infomu'ng you ahom the status of the system’s operation: Message Window codes and Indicator lights. A. Message Window The message window displays one and two character codes (up to 62) to give you a mnning count of message received. B. Indicator Lights Ifthere are new messages, the message indicator LED will flash. C. Memory Full Detection This unit will signal the user when the message capacity is full by flmhing “FL" on the display. Meanwhile, the system will announce “MEMEORY IS FULL”. No new message can be recorded until you delete previous saved messages. Incoming Message Recording This unit has two mailboxes for personalized storage in addition to standard storage. The caller’s messages can be recorded in one of the three message areas I_ and - Callers will have an option to leave a message in one of the desired message areas. To Leave mesages in Mailbox 1, Mailbox 2, or Message Center, callers with Tone dialing should be instructed to wait for beep, then press 5 m, E Q, or B respectively. NOTE: If the callers do not press any key to indicate which specific mailbox their messages are going to be stored, the caller's messages will be recorded in the Message Center automatically. Memo Messages Recording You can record a memo message for yourself or anyone else who has access to the system. Men-ms will be played back along with the other messages on the system. ‘ Use the provided handset to record your memo messages 1. When you finish recording the memo, press The system will record the day and time when you left the memo, and then beep twice to confirm finishing. 5. When the TAD system picks up the phone afier 10 rings, enter your PIN mmtber (default is 50). 3. Proceed with above steps from 2 to 5. (For more details on remote control, please refer to 5.28.) Listening to Your Messages If there are new messages stored in memory waiting for being retrieved, the message LED will blink; While the messages stored has been played back but not yet deleted, the LED will lit on but stop blinking. A. New Messages Playback from the Message Center Message Playback form the Base Press and release the button. You will hear “YOU HAVE xx MESSAGES”, then nTessage will playback. If you have no messages, the imit will announce “YOU HAVE NO MESSAGES." Afier the last message plays, you will hear “END OF MESSAGES" and this system will keep saving the messages unless you delete them. NOTE: If you have set the Voice Time/Day Stamp! the time and day will be announced at the beginning of each message alter giving the message munber. If you did not set the time, you will only hear the message number. Message Playback from the Cordless Handset 1. pm me: 2. Pre -l to playback the messages stored in your Message Center. Message Playback Using an External Telephone 1. Dial your telephone number. 2. Enter your PIN number after the system picks up the phone. (Default is 50) 3. Stopping Message Playback Press and release (or the numeric buttor. located on the handset or an external phone) while any message playback, the system will stop playing. F. Deleting Messages To delete a selected message, press and release while the message is playing. To delete all played messages in standard storage (including memo), press and release m and then the button again To delete all played messages in one of the mailboxes, press mmmnm NOTE: When you activate the system to delete all the messages stored in memory, only those have been played back can be deleted. F. Saving Messages The system automatically saves old messages alter playback, unless you command it to clear messages. Call Interrupt lfthe unit answers before you do, you can turn it off by picking up the cordless handset, if the handsetisinthebase. lfthehmdsetisawayfiomthebnse,press-andmkethecall nssoon as the PHONE LED goes on. You can also take the call by picking up the extension phone. If the unit does not stop on the extension, press the hook switch on the extension phone or E button on the cordless handset for about two seconds and then release. You may also activate call interrupt by pressing the button on the base. Call Screening Operation from the Base To listen to an incoming call without picking up the phone, let the answering machine pick up the call when it rings, If you don’t want to talk to the caller, just let the answering machine take the message, and adjust the volume control on the base to listen. Callers will be unaware that you are screening their calls, and they will not be able to hear you unless you pick up the handset from the cradle or an extension phone. If you want to talk to the caller, pick up the phone and talk. Operation from the Handset l. Besurethatthehandsetisnot inthebase cradle. 2. Press REMOTE when the phone rings stop (or when the answering system picks up the call). . NOTE: If you press REMOTE during the phone rings (or before the answering machine picks up the call, call-screening function cannot be activated.) Setting the PIN Number for Remote Access To remotely operate your answering system from an outside line, you must enter a remote code to access messages, memos and announcements. The default value of access code is 50. You can use the preset code or set your own as follows: Operation from the Cordless Handset Press the Film button.
