WHERE TO LOCATE YOUR SurroundBarÂŽSDAÂŽ
FOR THE BEST SOUND
It’s easy. Just center the SurroundBar SDA under your TV
screen. Using the supplied cradle mounts, place the SurroundBar
SDA slightly in front of your TV. If your TV is housed in a media
center, you can place the SurroundBar SDA above the TV. The
SurroundBar SDA can also sit on a flat surface without using
the cradles.
If your TV is wall mounted, the SurroundBar SDA can mount right
beneath it. The SurroundBar SDA has built-in keyhole slots that
make it easy. Use the supplied wall mount template so that the
speaker is centered beneath your TV.
WHERE TO LOCATE YOUR WIRELESS
SUBWOOFER FOR THE BEST SOUND
Your Wireless Subwoofer is really easy to place and can go just
about anywhere in the room. Plus you don’t have to worry about
connecting wires, because the only wire you have to plug in is
the power cord to an AC outlet. And that’s it.
Cradle Mounted
SurroundBar SDA
Here’s a little trick: If you place your subwoofer in a corner
of your room, it will reinforce the subwoofer’s output, making
it sound louder.

Receiving a signal from a cable/satellite box makes it easier to
set up your SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater System. If,
however, you have additional sources (like a DVD player) you may
need to take the audio signal from your TV so you can have sound
from your SurroundBar SDA with all of your other sources.
HOW TO CONNECT YOUR WIRELESS SUBWOOFER
Your Wireless Subwoofer receives a wireless audio signal from
the SurroundBar SDA, so all you need to do is plug it into an
AC outlet.

GET READY FOR GREAT SOUND
On your TV remote control, find a “menu” or “setup” button.
A few easy steps, and you’re ready to start enjoying your
SurroundBarÂŽSDAÂŽ Instant Home Theater.
Press this button. You should see an on-screen menu.
Next, look for an option to control audio functions
and select it.
Connect the SurroundBar SDA Power Supply to the
SurroundBar SDA and plug the other end into an AC outlet.
Plug the Subwoofer Power Cord into an AC outlet
and into the back of the Wireless Subwoofer.
Turn on the power switches on both the
SurroundBar SDA and the Wireless Subwoofer.
Turn on the other components in your system
and tune to a familiar channel.
The setting to turn off your TV’s internal speakers should be here.
HOW TO OPTIMIZE THE SOUND WHEN
TV SPEAKERS ARE ON
If you can’t turn off your TV internal speakers, don’t worry. Your
SurroundBar SDA will make your TV sound much better.
You should hear sound from the SurroundBar SDA. If you don’t,
turn up the volume on the SurroundBar SDA using its volume
control buttons.
To enjoy the best performance from your SurroundBar SDA,
you’ll want it to play louder than your TV. Use the following
steps to adjust the volume balance between your TV and
the SurroundBar SDA:
If your SurroundBar SDA is connected to your TV, try adjusting
the volume using the TV remote control. If the volume level
of your SurroundBar SDA changes, it means it is connected
to a “variable” output. The mute control on your remote control
should also work. In this case you do not have to program your
SurroundBar SDA to respond to your remote control. If the
volume level does not change, refer to page 10 ”HOW TO
SET UP A REMOTE CONTROL FOR YOUR SurroundBar SDA.”
If necessary program your SurroundBar SDA to respond
to the volume up and down control commands of your TV
remote. (See “HOW TO SETUP A REMOTE CONTROL
FOR YOUR SurroundBar SDA.” on page 10.)
Turn your TV volume all the way down using the control
buttons on your TV.
If your SurroundBar SDA is connected to your TV, there’s a very
good chance your TV speakers are also playing. It’s impossible
to give specific instructions on how to turn off the speakers for
every TV, but here’s a way to do it that covers many of the TVs
out there.
Then, using the volume control buttons on your
SurroundBar SDA, set the volume to a normal
listening level.
After you make these adjustments, your SurroundBar SDA should
always be louder than your TV speakers. Then use the TV remote
control to adjust the volume as you normally do.
NOTE: You may need to adjust the GAIN LEVEL to “3” to compensate for the low TV volume setting (See page 10 for details).

FINE TUNING YOUR SurroundBarÂŽSDAÂŽ IHT SOUND
The next thing you’ll want to do is adjust the Wireless Subwoofer
to blend with your SurroundBar SDA speaker. This will ensure the
system produces the best sound.
Set the Wireless Subwoofer’s volume to the middle of its
range. Now play a variety of source material—some music,
a movie sound track with great special effects, a movie chapter
or a part of a concert in which people are speaking. Adjust the
volume until what you hear sounds natural to you in your normal
viewing location.
Remember—The SurroundBar SDA can learn to respond to
almost any button on almost any remote. Decide what remote
you want to use —television, satellite receiver, cable control
box, etc.—and program your SurroundBar SDA to respond to
the buttons you want to use.
If you make a mistake, or want to erase the remote control
programming of the SurroundBar SDA, here’s what you do:
Press and hold the “MUTE” and “REMOTE”
buttons simultaneously.
MUTE
HOW TO SET UP A REMOTE CONTROL
FOR YOUR SurroundBar SDA IHT
If your existing TV or Cable/Satellite remote does not change
the volume of the SurroundBar SDA, then your SurroundBar SDA
is connected to a “constant level” (or “fixed”) output. This means
you’ll want to program your SurroundBar SDA to respond to the
remote control codes of your existing remote or any other remote
control you want to use. Ideally, you will need only one remote for
your system.
Example: To have your SurroundBar SDA learn
the “mute” command of your remote control:
1 Press and hold the “REMOTE” button until the status light
MUTE
REMOTE
turns orange and starts blinking.
2 Press the button on the SurroundBar SDA that you want
to program to respond to your remote control—in this case
MUTE
REMOTE
The status light flashes red and orange for several seconds.
NOTE: This procedure removes ALL of your SurroundBar SDA
remote control programming. If you only need to change the
programming for some of the SurroundBar SDA buttons, follow
the three steps in the left-hand column to redo any previous
programming.
DETAILS ABOUT SurroundBarÂŽSDA
Power—The power switches on the back of the SurroundBar
SDA and Wireless Subwoofer can be left on. The SurroundBar
SDA has an automatic power standby system. After about 15
minutes of inactivity, the amplifiers will shut down. As soon as
a signal is applied to the inputs of the SurroundBar SDA, the
amplifiers automatically turn on again.
Channel ID Switches—Both the SurroundBar SDA and Wireless
Subwoofer have Channel ID switches. The switch settings
change the frequency of the wireless signal the SurroundBar SDA
sends to the Wireless Subwoofer. The two switches must be
set to the same position.
REMOTE
Example: Switch Settings
the “MUTE” button. The status indicator should stop blinking
and turn a steady orange.
SurroundBar SDA
3 Point your remote control at the front of the SurroundBar SDA
from approximately 12" (30cm) away. Press and hold the mute
button on your remote for a full second then release the button
for a full second. Repeat the press and release sequence until
the status indicator starts blinking green.
TIP: Hold the remote steady and press/release the button
slowly so your SurroundBar SDA can learn the remote signal.
If your SurroundBar SDA fails to learn the remote control signal
it will blink red. If this occurs, repeat steps 1 - 3. Be sure to keep
the remote steady and press the button slowly.
Repeat the process for the other buttons on your remote control
that you want your SurroundBar SDA to learn.

CHANNEL ID

You’ll probably never need to adjust these switches. If you
put more than one SurroundBar SDA IHT system in your home,
use different Channel ID switch settings so the systems
don’t interfere with each other.
Gain Level Switch—This changes the input sensitivity of your
SurroundBar SDA. If the output of your television is too low,
you may need to change the Gain Level to “3” to make the
SurroundBar SDA play louder. Conversely, if you hear distortion,
set the Gain Level to“1” to make it sound better.

to RF interference from such sources as microwave ovens, WiFi computer
systems, video game systems, cordless telephones, blue tooth systems, baby
monitors, and other devices. In particular, any devices operating in the 2.4GHz
band may cause intermittent wireless connections between the SurroundBar
SDA speaker and the subwoofer. It is also possible that your SurroundBar SDA
IHT system may affect other wireless systems. For the most part, you can
avoid wireless performance problems by physically separating these devices
from your SurroundBar SDA IHT system. Maintaining a distance of several feet
or more between your SurroundBar SDA IHT speaker and any wireless device
should prevent any mutual interference effects. If you do notice any subwoofer
signal dropouts take care to identify the root cause (most commonly having
other wireless devices too close) and resolve accordingly. Any interference
effects from a microwave oven will cease once the oven stops operating
and may be resolved on a long-term basis by increasing the physical distance
between your SurroundBar SDA IHT system and the microwave oven.
