Introduction
WiFiMonitorisaportabledisplaydesignedtobeusedinconjunctionwithaSlingboxoraSlingLoaded
SetͲtopbox,i.e.,aSTBwithSlingboxfunctionalityintegratedwithinitsuchastheDishNetworkViP922
DuoDVRsatellitereceiver.TheWiFiMonitorconnectstoaconsumer’shomenetworkviaEthernetor
WiͲFi(802.11a/b/g/n)andreceivesliveandrecorded(DVR)televisionfromtheSlingboxorthe
SlingLoadedSTB.Inthisway,consumerscanwatchtheirtelevisionprogramminginanylocationinthe
homewhereanetworkconnectionisavailable.Themonitorisespeciallyconvenientforroomsor
spacesthathavenotbeenwiredforTVprogramming,suchasakitchen,bathroom,patio,orgarage.
WiFiMonitorEcosystem
WiFiMonitorcanexistaspartofawirelessorwiredhomenetwork.Referringtothe
illustrationinFigure1,thekeyaspectsoftheecosystemandinteractionofthecomponentsare:
1. TheViP922receivesTVprogrammingandmetadataviasatellite.Thisdeviceisalso
connectedtothehomenetworkrouterviaEthernet.
2. ThehomerouterprovidesIPconnectivityviaEthernetorWiͲFitotheViP922andWiFi
Monitor.ThehomenetworkrouterisconnectedtoaDLSorCablemodem
3. WiFiMonitorisconnectedtothehomenetworkviawirelessorwiredconnection,and
communicateswiththeViP922overtheIPnetwork.TheViP922streamsTV
programmingtoWiFimonitor,whichdecodesanddisplaysthevideoandaudiocontent
fortheconsumertowatch.TheusersendscommandstotheWiFiMonitorbyusingan
IRremotecontrol.Thesecommandstriggereitherlocalactions(likemovingthroughthe
WiFiMonitormenusystem),orresultinWiFimonitorsendingcontrolcommands
and/ordata(likechannelchange,searchkeywords)totheViP922setͲtopbox.TheViP
922processesthesecommandsandperformsanappropriateaction,and/orsendsdata
backtoWiFiMonitorforpresentationtotheuser.TheWiFiMonitoralsodownloads
metadatadirectlyfromtheInternetforpresentationtotheuser.

2. InstallationSteps
PleasefollowthesestepstoinstallyourWiFiMonitor.
Step1:InstallyourViP922DuoDVRsatellitereceiveroryoursetͲtopboxwithSlingboxattached.
ThisstepmustbeperformedbyaDishNetworkauthorizedinstaller.YourViP922orSlingboxmustbe
installedandconnectedtoyourhomenetworkbeforeWiFiMonitorisinstalled.PleasecallDishNetwork
toarrangeforinstallation.
Step2:InstallyourWiFiMonitor
a) UnpackWiFiMonitorfromthebox,andplaceitinthedesiredlocation.
b) UnpacktheWiFiMonitorremotecontrol,removethebatterydooronthebackoftheunit,and
insertthetwoincludedAAAbatteriesinthecorrectorientation.
c) Connectthepowerplug(ACadapter)toWiFiMonitor.Afteraminute,theWiFiMonitoruser
interfacewillbedisplayed.PresstheOKbuttonontheremotecontroltobeginthesetup
process.
d) FollowtheonͲscreenpromptstosetupWiFiMonitor.WiFiMonitorwillchecktomakesureitis
connectedtothenetwork,anddownloadthelatestsoftwareupdates.Afterthesetupis
complete,theWiFiMonitorwillrestart.
e) Afterthesystemrestarts,youwillbepromptedtopresstheOKkeyagaintobeginusingthe
product.YouarenowreadytoenjoyyourTVprogramsanywhereinyourhome!

contentfromyourDishNetworkViP922receiverorSlingbox.YoucannavigatethroughtheWiFi
Monitoruserinterfaceusingtheleft,rightandOKkeysontheincludedremotecontrol.Herearethe
keyfunctionalitiesoftheWiFiMonitorandhowtousethem.

Thismenucanbeaccessedbypressingthe“Menu”buttonontheremotecontrol.Homeprovides
accesstotheProgramGuide,DVR,What’sOn,andSettingsmenus.
2. ProgramGuide
SelectthisoptionfromtheHomemenuortheremotecontrolGuidebuttontoseeagridshowingyou
whattelevisionprogrammingisavailablebychannel,time,anddate.Usetheleft/rightarrowsto
highlightaprogram,andpresstheOKkeytoselectit.OnͲscreenmenuswillprovidefurtherinformation
onwhatyoucandowithaparticularevent(watchit,recordit,andmore…)

3. DVR
ThisoptionprovidesfullaccesstoalloftheDVRfunctionalityofyourViP922setͲtopbox.Youcanwatch
recordedprograms,seealistofallrecordedprograms,sortthroughthelistbydateandtitle,and
searchforprogramsofinterest.Youcanalsoseewhatprogramsarescheduledtorecord,edit
scheduledrecordings,andresolverecordingconflicts.
4. What’sOn
SelectthisoptiontofindandwatchliveTVofinterest,seewhatTVprogramswillbeonlater,and
schedulerecordings.Insteadofhavingtosearchthroughaprogramguide,What’sOnallowsyouto
searchforprogramsmoreeasilybyarrangingprogramsinasimpletonavigatelistthatcanbesortedby
channelandsearchedbykeywords.Onceaprogramofinterestisfound,youcaneasilywatchit,record
it,orgetmoreinformationabouttheprogram.
5. Settings
ThesettingsmenucontainsalloftheWiFiMonitorsystemsettings.Withinthismenu,youcanadjust
networksettings,displaysettings,audiosettings,andotheruserpreferences.

IEEE 802.11b or 802.11g operation of this product in the U.S.A. is firmware-limited to channels 1 through 11.

FCC Radiation Exposure Statement:
This equipment complies with FCC radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment. This
equipment should be installed and operated with minimum distance 20cm between the radiator & your body.
This transmitter must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter.
Industry Canada Statement
This device complies with RSS-210 of the Industry Canada Rules. Operation is subject to the following two
conditions:
1) this device may not cause interference and
2) this device must accept any interference, including interference that may cause undesired operation of the
device
Caution:
(i) the device for the band 5150-5250 MHz is only for indoor usage to reduce potential for harmful interference to
co-channel mobile satellite systems;
In addition, users should also be cautioned to take note that high-power radars are allocated as primary users
(meaning they have priority) of the bands 5250-5350 MHz and 5650-5850 MHz and these radars could cause
interference and/or damage to LE-LAN devices.
