Congratulations on your purchase of the Hugo 7026 Internet Gateway, a powerful, yet simple, lntemet
solution device for office, home, campus, and corporate division and branch. Using the Hugo 7026,
you can network neighborhood computers to:

The setup of Hugo 7026 is easy friendly. It can be done through a web browser on a computer which is
directly connected to the Hugo 7026, or which resides at the same segment ofthe local area network as
the Hugo 7026 does.

Safety Precautions
-/ Always make sure the power is turned off before plug or unplug a device.

What Comes with Your Hugo 7026
The Hugo 7026 package shall come include with the following items. Carefully inspect each item. If
damage or short, immediately repack everything in the original packing and contact the dealer.

The Installation Guide and the Manual
This Quick Installation Guide assumes that you are familiar with Windows 95 operation You shall
know how to connect a Windows 95 computer to surf the Intemel with a modem, and how to hook it on
an Ethernet network with LAN card and hub,
The Reference Manual in electronic format contains more information on configuration, diagnostics
and advanced setup of the Hugo 7026 at sophisticated environment, It is in web page format and
requires a web browser to read it.
What Else You Shall Need
As example, we will use the following items to connect your computers to Hugo 7026 and to enjoy the
services on the Internet:
/ One Internet Access Account
One or multiple lntcmet Mailbox Accounts
One 33.6 or 56 Kbps modem
One serial cable for modem connection
One ordinary telephone line
One Ethernet network adapter (LAN card) and Ethernet cable for each computer
One Ethernet cable for each LAN card
Web browser sofiware for each computer

The Internet Access and Mailbox Accounts
In general there are different types of Internet Access Account available from an Internet Service
Provider (lSP). The most economic and common one shall be the dial-up account popularly used to
connect a computer to the lntemet with a modem Your Hugo 7026 uses this kind of account, although
it may use other types ofaccounts.
Many [SP provides dial»up accounts with Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) support, which may eliminate
lots of troublesome setup tasks. We suggest that you shall as could choose an ISP who supports PPP
connection,
You shall need Internet Mailbox Accounts to receive emails In general. many ISP provides one free
mailbox account with each dialvup account. Some ISP may provide dial-up account that comes with
multiple mailbox accounts. In this guide we will assume that each user shall have an individual Internet
mailbox account,
Make sure that you have the following information from your lSP. as you shall need them during the
configuration:
/ The phone number to dial-up:

/ The user name ofthe Access Account:

The user name ofthe Mailbox Accounts:

The login scrip. if your ISP requires this. Most ISP nowadays do no! require a script to log on.
The Modern and the Telephone Line
The modem uses ordinary telephone line for data communication. it is the most convenient and
economic data communication facility for now, The ISDN provides a more reliable communication at
higher speed. But, it involves more technical issues. takes a longer lead»time to subscribe. and the costs
and fares are more expansive.
The Hugo 7026 uses most on»the-shelf Hayes»compatible modems. In this guide, we will install one
modem to your Hugo 7026o In general, a 33.6 or 56 Kbps modem shall accommodate 3 to 6 users to
surf the Internet at an acceptable speed. If higher speed is desired, you may add up another modem
later on, or use an ISDN terminal adapter instead.
The Ethernet LAN Card and Cable
To hook up on an Ethernet LAN. each computer shall have an Ethernet Network Adapter (LAN card)
installed. To surfon the Internet, the LAN card shall be set up to support TCP/IP.
The cable connects the LAN card to the Hugo 7026 shall be of Ethernet lOBase-T standard, and be
with Ill—45 connectors on both ends. The length ofeach cable shall not exceed 100 meters.
The Web Browser
You may use any popular web browser sofiware with the Hugo 7026. Nowadays most browser
sofiware are freely available for download at many web sites on the Internet. If you have purchased a
Discovery or DataSyslem 33.6 or 56Kpbs modem, the Microsoft Internet Explorer is freely available
on the CD come with the modem.
Nowadays many web browsers, such as the Microsofl lntemet Explorer or the Netscape Navigator,
already has lntemet e-mail function built-in so that you may send and receive Internet mails,
Connect More Computers via Ethernet Hubs
The Hugo 7026 is built-in with a hub ofsix normal LAN ports and one uplink LAN port, Each normal
port can be connected to a LAN card in a computer. Therefore. in total the Hugo 7026 can directly
accommodate up to six computers, The uplink port is associated with the normal port #6, only one of
them can be use. You shall not have devices simultaneously connected to both the as and the uplink
port.
lt‘more than 6 computers are to be connected to the Hugo 7026, use Ethernet hubs. A normal port of an
Ethernet hub shall be connected to the uplink port ofa Hugo 7026: or an uplink port ofa hub shall be
connected to a normal port ofa Hugo. Therefore, you may connect one to six hubs to the Hugo 7026,
and each the computers can be directly connected to the normal port of Hugo 7026 or a hub, If each
hub provides 16 normal ports. you can in total have as many as 96 computers in the network.
The Installation Steps — Easy?"
To set up your network with Hugo 7026, there are there steps:
Step 1: Prepare a client computer
I-l Insert a LAN card to the computer
l-2 Configuration ofthe LAN card
1-3 Bind TCP/IP protocol to the LAN card
1-4 Install a web browser software

Step 4: Configure the client computers
Prepare a Client Computer
To be a client ofHugo 7026 for lntemet access or to use it to set up the configuration of Hugo 7026, a
computer shall:
/ Be TCP/IP networking capable.
/ Have a web browser installed.
To turn a computer to TCP/IP networking capable, you shall install a LAN card to it and bind TCP/IP
protocol with the LAN card. To install a web browser, follow its user’s manual,
In this guide, we take Windows 95 computer as the example. You may use Windows NT, Macintosh,
Windows 3.x, or even a DOS computer with Hugo 7026, provided that they meet the two conditions
listed above.
Setup 11 Windows 95 Computer to TCP/IP Networking
Find a Windows 95 computer and follow the instruction manual of your LAN card to install the card to
the computer. In general, it shall involve the following steps:
I Turn olfthe computer
/ Open the computer housing
/ Insert the card to an available slot
I Turn on the computer
When the computer is turned on, Windows 95 shall automatically detect the LAN card, set up the lRQ,
l/O address, and bind TCP/IP and other protocols to the card.
If you have trouble, remove the unnecessary peripheral cards and try it over again. As a tip, some
sound cards may not be fully compatible with Windows 95 auto detection while a certain type of LAN
card is existed in the computer, You will need to have the LAN card installed first, then manually
configure the sound card.
Also, some LAN card driver may not be completely uninstalled in Windows 95. You may try by
turning on the computer one more time with both the LAN card and the sound card unplugged.
Once installed, you may verify the current configuration and protocol settings ofthe LAN card.
Verify the TCP/IP Configuration in Windows 95
To verify your Windows 95 have had TCP/IP installed, click Start E) Settings E3 Control Panel Q
Network In the Network window under the Cmifigurau‘on tab. you will see a line TCP/IP -> NEZOOO
compatible or TCP/IP -> (your LAN card).
lfyou can not find such a line, you may install it in the Network window by:
-/ Click Add, select Protocol and then click Add
/ Select Microsoft, select TCP/IP and then click OK.
Verify the TCP/IP Settings aflhe LAN And
To verify the TCP/IP settings ofyonr LAN card:
I Click Start Q Settings 5: Control Panel Q Network to open up the Network window.
/ Select the TCP/lP '> (your IAN card) and click Pmperu‘es.
The Network Properties consists of several tabs. Make sure the fields in some tabs are checked as listed
below:
IP Address: 2 Obtain an IP address automatically
DNS Configuration: EDisablz DNS
Caraway: EClzuv all flitting entries
Install A Web Browser m a Wimlaws 95 Computer
While in this guide we will take Microsoh lntemet Explorer 4.01 (MSlE 4.0I) as the example, you
may use the Netscape Navigator or other web browser as wellr
Follow the manual of MSIE to install the web browser sottware. Note that with the Hugo 7026 you will
be connected to the Internet via a local area network, not a dial up network. Be sure to select this an
option when you install a browser.
If the setup requires entering the IP address of gateway, the factory default W of Hugo 7026 is
192,168.l.l.
Once installed, you may like to check the current configuration of the MSIE by clicking View ID
hummer Option P47 Connection in the menu bar.
Connect Everything to Hugo 7026
Before going on hardware installation, you shall make sure that:
I All the devices are power off before doing connection
/ You can distinguish the power adapter come with the modem from the one with the Hugo 7026.
They shall not be inter-changeable.
Now, follow the illustration and the steps below to connect everything to the Hugo 7026:
/ Connect the modem to the Hugo 7026:
<> Connect the serial cable from your modem to the WANl port on the hack ofthe Hugo 7026.
¢ Connect the telephone cable from the wall outlet to the LINE port ofthe modem.
e Connect the modem power adapter to the power jack ofthe modem, and plug the power adapter
to a power outlet
¢ Turn on the power ofthe modem.
1 Connect the Ethernet cable from the LAN card in your computer to the LAN til port on the from
ofthe Hugo 7026.
Connect only one computer at this moment. After the Hugo 7026 network is working normally you
may connect more computers.
1 Connect the power adapter come with Hugo to the power jack on the back of the Hugo 7026, and
plug the power adapter to a power outlet.
The POWER LED shall flash for a few seconds while the Hugo 7026 performs initial diagnostics.

Setup the Hugo 7026
On the computer connected to the Hugo7026,
/ Start the web browser
1 Enter 192168. H in the Address or Go 72; area and click Enter
Carefully read the User Home page to understand the function of each link on the left. To add this page
as a bookmark. click Favorites Q Add to Favorite in the lntemet Explorer menu bar.
General Setup
Click System Home on the left ofthe User Home page A dialog will come up asking for the user name
and password of the System Operator: The default values are dazatmnics for both of them. Enter
datalranics in both the fields and click Submit, the System Home page will come up.
Caution: The usemame and password of the system operator can be changed by clicking
General => Advan on the System Home page. Be Careful to any modification. Once the
password is lost, you will not be able to enter the system unless you reload Hugo to the factory
default.
On this page enter the following fields with the information you have got from your iSP:
'/ IP address ofthe Primary DNS
/ IP address of the Secondary DNS, if available. Leave this field blank if it is not required.
Since we will use the factory default of Remote Mail mode, you shall leave the following fields as they
are:
Domain name ofthe SMTP server
Domain name ofthe POP server
Mailbox Address
Mailbox Usemame
Mailbox Password

Retype Password
Double-check all the fields and make sure they are correct, then click Save.
WANI Setup
Click the System Home fl WANI Setup. In this page you will set up the parameters in related to the
modern connected to WANI port ofthe Hugo 7026:
f The name you would give to identify your ISP
/ The complete phone number to dial to the [SP
./ The user name ofyour dial up account at the lSP
I The password of your dial up account. Retype to confirm the dial up account password
Double-check all the fields and make sure they are correct, then click Save.
If you are using the Hugo 7026 to set up a new network, the factory default IP address of the Hugo
7026 is 192.168.11. All the other computers and devices shall be given an IP address between
192.168.1210192168.1.254.
If your ISP requires a login script, click WAN] Setup ¢ Advan => Script and enter it line by line.
Mailbox Setup
The factory default ofthe Remote Mail mode requires that every email user shall have a mailbox on
the lnternet. In this case, you do not have to set up mailbox account at the Hugo 7026.

However. each email user shall set up the mailbox options in the lntemet Mail Application sofiware on
the computer he or she will use to send or retrieve lntemet mails:
/ The name of the SMTP server which transmit outgoing lntemet mails
The name ofthe POP server which requires to retrieve the incoming mails
The email address ofthe mailbox
The username ofthe mailbox

The password ofthe mailbox
Wrile and Reboot Hugo
Since you have entered and saved some modifications, you shall Write the modifications to the Hugo
so that they can be taken effect the next time Hugo is rebooted,
Click Write to Hugo to write the modifications to Hugo 7026. Then. click Reboot Hugo to lake effect
the modifications you have saved.
A Good Jab You Have Done
Now, enter a web site address in the URL or Go To field in the web browser. You will see the modem
dials and the web site will be displayed for your surf afler the connection is established,
Connect a second computer to the Hugo 7026 and try to browse another web site. You will find out
both the computers can surf the lnlemet individually by sharing one lntemet account through Hugo
7026. Note that each computer shall be Networking and TCP/IP capable.
