Beforeabeltstationandacontroller/gatewaycanbeconnected,theymustfirstbelinked.Asa
securitymeasure,theclose‐linkfeaturerequiresdevicestobeinproximityofabout1to3ft(0.3
to0.9m)inordertosuccessfullylink.Thisensuresthattheunitsarenotinadvertentlylinkedwith
otherunitsonthepremises.
Linkingprocedure:
1. Ensureunitsarewithin1to3ft(0.3to0.9m)ofeachother.
2. EnsuretheU9910‐BSWisnotalreadyconnected(seeStatusIndication).

3. Simultaneously(within1‐2sec)pressandreleasetheLINK/PTTbuttonontheU9910‐
BSWandthecontrollerorgatewaytolinkwith.
4. AmberLED’swillflashquicklyonbothdevices.AmomentaryredLEDindicatesa
successfulclose‐link.
5. UponsuccessfullinktheU9910‐BSWwillattempttoestablishaconnectionwiththe
controller/gateway.
6. UponsuccessfullyestablishingconnectiontheLEDwillflashgreen,avoicealertwillbe
heard(seeTable1),andusersidetonewillbeenabled(seeCommunication).
7. Linkandconnectionisnowcomplete.
Eachbeltstationisabletobelinkedtoonlyonegateway/controlleratatime.
Agateway/controllercanhaveuptosixbeltstationslinkedandbeconnectedtofourofthosesix
atonetime.
Tip:
Oncelinked,thedeviceswillnotneedtobelinkedagainunlesstheyarepurged(see
Purging).Unitsmaybespecialorderedthatdonothavepersistentlinks.

Power‐up/power‐down
TopoweruptheU9910‐BSWbeltstation,pressandholdthePOWERbuttonforapproximately
twoseconds.TheLEDwillturnredandthenbeginflashingorange.Ifthebeltstationhasbeen
linkedtoacontrollerorgatewayandthatcontrollerorgatewayisinrange,thebeltstationwill
automaticallyconnectwithinafewseconds.
TopowerdowntheU9910‐BSW,pressandholdthePOWERbuttonforapproximatelytwo
seconds.TheLEDwillturnredandthenturnoff.Thebeltstationisnowpowereddown.
AutoShut‐off
Additionally,thebeltstationwillautomaticallypowerdownifitisdisconnectedfromits
gateway/controllerformorethan30minutes.
Headset
InorderfortheU9910‐BSWtobeused,aDavidClarkH9900‐seriesheadsetmustbeconnected.
Toconnecttheheadset,aligntheconnectorsasshownthenpushandturnclockwise(seeFigure
2).Thereareseparateleftandrightvolumecontrolsontheheadset.

backgroundnoisefrombeingunintentionallypickedupbythemicrophonewhiledetectingand
allowingvoicecommunications.TheVOXknob(seeFigure1)controlsthethresholdatwhichthe
micbecomes“hot”.Whenthemicishotyouwillhearyourownvoiceandotherconnectedusers
willhearyouaswell.PressingthePTTbuttonwillautomaticallymakethemicrophone“hot”for
aslongasthePTTishelddown,regardlessofVOXsetting.
VOXBasics

VOXAdjustmentProcedure
1. Ensurethatthebeltstationislinkedwithacontrollerorgateway(LEDflashinggreen).
2. Standinthenoisyenvironmentwhereyouwillbeusingthesystembutdonotspeak.
3. TurnVOXknobfullycounter‐clockwise.Youwillhearacontinuoustone.
4. Whilecontinuingnottospeak,slowlyturntheVOXknobclockwiseuntilthetonestops.
5. VOXisnowoptimallysetforyourenvironment.
Thetonewillstopautomaticallyafter5secondsofnotchangingtheVOXknobposition.
Ifyoumovetoanotherlocation,youmaywishtorepeattheaboveprocedure.
Tip:
• TurningtheVOXknobfullyclockwisewillturnoffthemicrophone.
• Conversely,turningtheVOXknobfullycounter‐clockwisewillcausethemicrophoneto
be“hot”allthetime.

Communication
Dependingonthegatewayorcontrollerthebeltstationispairedwith,operationwillvary.Inall
casestheuserwillhearhisownvoice(sidetone)onlywhenthebeltstationisconnectedtoa
controllerorgatewayandVOXisproperlyadjusted.Sidetoneprovidesfeedbackfortheuserto
knowheisconnectedandisbeingheardbytheremoteusersaswell.Ingeneral,ifyoucanhear
yourownvoice,theotheruserscanhearyouaswell.
Range
Therangeofabeltstationandacontroller/gatewaycanbeupto300ft(100m).Ifyouareinan
environmentwithmetalorconcretewalls,thisrangecouldbereduced.Whenthebeltstation
travelsoutofrangeofthecontroller/gateway,avoicealertwillindicatethattheconnectionhas
beenlost.Toreconnect,simplymovebackintorangeandconnectionwiththe
controller/gatewaywillautomaticallybereestablished.
PTT
TheLINK/PTTbuttonallowstheusertoactivateadditionalfunctionalitysuchastospeakovera
two‐wayradioortoanaircraftintercom.PTTwillalsooverridetheVOXsetting(seeVOX).For
moreinformationseetheusermanualfortheappropriatecontrollerorgateway.
LowBattery
Undertypicalconditions,thebatteryinthebeltstationwilllastupto24hoursorlonger.Avoice
alertwillindicatetotheuserthatthebatteryisrunninglow.AdditionallytheStatusLEDwillturn
red.Approximately1hourofoperationremains.

Insomecircumstancesitmaybenecessaryto“purge”theU9910‐BSWofitsknowncontrolleror
gateway.Typicallypurgingisnotnecessaryunlesstherearemultiplecontrollersorgatewaysin
thesamevicinityandyouwishtolinkabeltstationtoadifferentcontrollerorgateway.Abelt
stationcanbelinkedtoonlyonecontrollerorgatewayatatime.
PurgeProcedure
1. Powerdownbeltstation(seePower‐up/Power‐down).
2. PressandholdLINK/PTTbutton.Donotrelease.
3. Powerupthebeltstation(seePower‐up/Power‐down).
4. ReleasePOWERbutton.
5. ReleaseLINK/PTTbutton.

6. Avoicealertwillindicatethattheconnectionhasbeendeleted.
Whenthisprocedureiscomplete,thebeltstationwillnotautomaticallyconnecttoa
controller/gatewayandmustbelinkedagain.

ThisequipmenthasbeentestedandfoundtocomplywiththelimitsforaClassBdigitaldevice,
pursuanttoPart15oftheFCCrules.Theselimitsaredesignedtoprovidereasonableprotection
againstharmfulinterferenceinaresidentialinstallation.Thisequipmentgenerates,usesandcan
radiateradiofrequencyenergyand,ifnotinstalledandusedinaccordancewiththeinstructions,

Thisproducthasbeendesignedtocomplywithapplicablesafetyrequirementsforexposureto
radiowaves.Theserequirementsarebasedonscientificguidelinesthatincludesafetymargins
designedtoassurethesafetyofallpersons,regardlessofageandhealth.Theradiowave
exposureguidelinesemployaunitofmeasurementknownastheSpecificAbsorptionRate,or
SAR.TestsforSARareconductedusingstandardizedmethodswiththeproducttransmittingatits
