Before You Use Your Smartphone8Before You Use Your SmartphoneSafety WarningsRead the following safety warnings carefully before using your smartphone.• This equipment is intended for use with power supplied from supplied battery charger(s) and/or power supply unit(s). Other usage will invalidate any certification given to this product and may be dangerous.• Switch off your cell phone when in an aircraft. The use of cell phones in an aircraft may be dangerous to the operation of the aircraft, could disrupt cellular networks, and may be illegal. Failure to observe this instruction may lead to suspension or denial of cell phone services to the offender, legal action, or both.• Do not use the cell phone or cell phone equipment when at a refueling point or gas station.• Observe restrictions on the use of radio equipment in fuel depots, gas stations, chemical plants, or where blasting operations are in progress.• When driving a vehicle, you MUST exercise proper control of the vehicle at all times. Observe the following safety precautions when driving:– Do not use a hand-held telephone or microphone while you are driving.– When driving, find a safe place to stop the vehicle before using the phone.– Do not speak into a hands-free microphone if it will distract you from driving.

Fluctuations in the electric current may damage the charger and/or the device.General Statement on RF EnergyYour phone has a transmitter and a receiver. When the phone is on, it receives and transmits radio frequency (RF) energy. When you communicate with your phone, the system handling your call controls the power level at which your phone transmits RF energy.Proper DisposalThe symbol of the crossed out bin indicates that the product (electrical and electronic equipment) should not be placed in municipal waste. Please check local regulations for disposal of electronic products.

This section provides information about setting up your smartphone.Smartphone RequirementsTo use all of the smartphone features, you need:• A wireless service plan with a carrier• An Internet connection• A computer with a USB 2.0 portActivating Phone ServiceBefore you can use any of the smartphone features, you must activate the smartphone. To activate the smartphone you must:• Sign up for a service plan with a service carrier in your area• Register the smartphone with the networkIf you purchased this smartphone from a service carrier, activation may have been done during the purchase.Setting Up the Phone for theFirst TimeYou must install the battery, SIM card, and charge the battery before you can use your smartphone.To set up your phone for the first time:1Open the coverSlide a finger into the finger slot, and then lift the cover.
Setting Up Your Smartphone112Install the SIM cardHold the SIM card with the metal contacts facing downwards and insert the card into the SIM card holder.NOTE: To ensure proper installation, align the cut corners in the card and the SIM card slot.3Install the MicroSD card (if not installed)aHold the microSD card with the metal contacts facing upwards, and slide it into the microSD card slot.bPress in on the microSD card until it clicks into place.4Install the batteryAlign the metal contacts on the battery with the contacts on the battery holder and insert the battery.5Close the coverInsert the tabs on the cover into the slots on the phone and snap the cover in place.

You can also charge your smartphone by connecting to a computer USB port.bCharge your smartphone for about 2 hours. Ensure that your smartphone is fully charged by checking the charge status indicator on the display.7When charging is complete, press the power button for 2 seconds to exit the charging mode.8Your smartphone is now ready to use.MINI USB

You can set the period of inactivity after which the smartphone changes to sleep mode using the phone settings menu. Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics37Entering Text with QwertyTo type text using the standard keyboard, you should be in the Qwerty input mode. As you type, each letter appears above your thumb or finger. The letter is not entered until you release your finger from the key. To enable this feature, you must know the SIM PIN2 code for your phone. Synchronization compares the data on your device with your PC and updates both the computer and your smartphone with the most recent information. Using synchronization, you can:• Synchronize information to get the latest information in all locations.• Transfer files between your device and a PC.• Backup data stored on the phone.NOTE: PC Sync may not be pre-installed on all devices. Download the latest software from www.dell.com.Installing PC Sync ApplicationBefore beginning synchronization, you must install the PC Sync Tool on your computer.
Using Applications140Installing PC Sync from the microSD card backup folder on your computer (preferred):1Backup the data from the microSD card to your computer.2From the microSD card backup folder on your computer, open the ODS (Ophone Desktop Suite) folder.3In the ODS folder, double-click the appropriate file (Windows® 7, Windows Vista® or Windows® XP).Follow the instructions on the wizard to complete the installation.Installing PC Sync from the microSD card:1Backup the data from the microSD card to your computer.2Connect your smartphone to a USB connector on your computer with the USB to mini-USB cable that shipped with your phone.3In the menu that appears on your screen, tap UMS Mode (USB Mass Storage Mode).Your computer displays the phone memory as Removable disk (X:) in My Computer, where X is the drive letter on your computer. The drive letter on your computer may vary.4Double-click Removable disk (X:).5In the ODS folder, double-click the appropriate file ((Windows Vista® or Windows® XP).Follow the instructions on the wizard to complete the installation.NOTE: You may be instructed to connect or reconnect the phone to your computer to complete the installation.
Using Applications141Connecting the SmartphoneAfter installing the PC Sync Tool, connect a USB cable to the mini USB port on the device and to a PC. The PC will detect your device automatically.NOTE: You will be prompted to change the phone USB mode. Select SYNC MODE to enable synchronization via USB cable.NOTE: Download the latest PC Sync Tool from www.dell.com.Using the PC Sync ToolOnce the connection is established between your device and the PC, you can start synchronization.The information you can synchronize include Contacts, Calendar, Task, SMS, MMS, and Email.Synchronizing data1Select the information you want to synchronize such as Contacts, Calendar, Task, SMS, MMS, and Email.2Select Sync to synchronize the files.
