How To:
CHOOSE RIDING MOWER ATTACHMENTS
Riding mowers are versatile power tools that can be used to do more than just cut the
grass. With a variety of available attachments, riding mowers can help with yard work
all year round.
Skill Level: BEGINNER These how-to's are suitable for people who are new to DIY and who have a basic knowledge of tools. If you've painted a room or re-potted a plant,
you can probably complete one of these projects by yourself in a few hours or less.
To get the most out of a front-engine riding lawn mower, select from the many task attachments available. With a properly
selected attachment, riding mowers can rake, spread, aerate, haul, plow, and perform numerous other yard care jobs
throughout the year. Following are popular attachments available for many front-engine riding mowers.
Lawn Sweeper or Grass Catcher (A.)
Two of the most common riding mower attachments are a lawn sweeper and grass catcher. They not only collect lawn clippings
during mowing, they’re also ideal for picking up leaves in the fall.
Tow-Behind Spreader (B.)
Another practical attachment is a tow-behind spreader that can efficiently and evenly spread seed and fertilizer over your lawn in
the spring and fall.
Aerators (C.)
To make sure that fertilizer gets to the roots where it’s needed, consider a tow-behind aerator. It punches holes in the turf to help
your lawn get the nutrients and water it needs.
Dethatchers (D.)
A dethatcher can help remove dead grass that can block oxygen and nutrients from getting to your lawn’s root system.
SELECTION
IMPORTANT
Before you select and install riding mower attachments, refer
to the mower specifications to determine what attachments
can be safely mounted. If you have questions, discuss the job
with a Lowe's associate or call a professional for help.

Dump Cart (E.)
If you have a large garden or yard, a dump cart can be a big help. Dump carts can transport landscaping tools and yard materials
such as seedlings, fertilizer, and other supplies without making multiple trips.
Dozer Blade (F.)
A dozer blade is a useful tool to help make snow removal easier.
- TIP: When you use front mounted attachments you need some extra traction. It’s a good idea to use tire chains and suitcase
weights as suggested by the mower manufacturer.
Snow Thrower
If you get a lot of snow, you can upgrade to a front mounted snow thrower.
Snow Cab
For operation during the winter, consider installing a snow cab to protect you from the elements.
Canopy (G.)
During the summer, protect yourself from the sun with a canopy. Lawnmower manufacturers typically offer canopies designed for
specific model riding mowers.
Front Bumper
To protect the riding mower from damage, consider a front bumper. They also can help minimize accidental damage to your
landscaping, home, garage, and vehicles.
Other Mower Attachments
Other useful riding mower attachments include sprayers, blowers, sweepers, mulchers, lawn vacuums, and trail cutters/mowers.
Ask a Lowe’s associate for suggestions on putting your riding mower to better use.
SELECTION (cont.)
Riding mower attachments often require some assembly and/or mounting to operate. To ensure proper and safe operation:
01 Read the instruction manual for the riding mower and the selected attachment before installing. Some mowers make
attachment mounting easier than others. In addition, some attachments require power from the mower through a belt or a
power take-off (PTO) drive. Others are simply pushed or pulled by the riding mower.
