Purpose
This qualification is an entry qualification for people who want to work in the kitchen or
bathroom design sector.
People entering this qualification may hold the National Certificate in Joinery (Introduction)
[Ref: 0385] or the National Certificate in Design (Introductory Skills) (Level 2) [Ref: 0461].
The compulsory section of the qualification covers the knowledge and skills related to
solving kitchen or bathroom design problems, building construction, workplace health and
safety, providing customer service, and work documents.
The kitchen design strand covers the knowledge and skills related to cabinet installation,
surface materials, space planning and kitchen appliances and interpreting a design brief.
The bathroom design strand covers the knowledge and skills related to materials used in
bathroom design and interpret a design brief, and plumbing systems and their impact on
bathroom design.
This qualification may lead to the National Certificate in Design (Level 4) with strands in
Kitchen Design, and Bathroom Design [Ref: 1300].

Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the

Changes to structure and content
Credit total was increased from 44 to 46-48.
Two strands in Kitchen Design and Bathroom Design were added.
Unit standards 1277, 2543, 7485, 22607, 24353 and 24361 were removed from the
compulsory section.
Unit standards 497, 26934, 26939 and 26945 were added to the compulsory section.
Unit standards 25208, 25209 and 25210 were moved from the compulsory section to
the Kitchen Design strand.
Unit standard titles and credits were updated following review.

Providers and Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess by a recognised Quality
Assurance Body before they can register credits from assessment against standards. Organisation with
