Pennsylvania Dutch Council Boy Scouts of America 2011 Annual Report Dear Scouting Family and Fellow Supporters, As your Council President it gives me great pleasure to present to you the 2011 Annual Report of the Pennsylvania Dutch Council. The 2011 National theme - Prepared. For Life., clearly defines the mission of our Council; “To Prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.” We are striving to carry-out our mission with an outreach to over 5,500 families with the values and programs of Scouting. In 2011 our Council embarked on the national Journey to Excellence program. This program is a comprehensive evaluation of how you and I, as the volunteers of the Pennsylvania Dutch Council, are delivering Scouting’s programs to the youth of our communities. I am pleased to share that we were recognized at the Gold Level; the highest recognition of the Journey to Excellence program. This Journey to Excellence evaluation took place across 18 key indicators and marked us as one of the key performing Councils in the nation. This recognition is more than a plaque on the wall or a patch on a sleeve, this is a testament to the commitment of our volunteers to Prepare youth For Life. In 2011 over 2900 dedicated volunteers delivered impactful programs, which produced 139 Eagle Scouts, an increase over past years. In 2011 over 2,100 youth attended camp at our two outdoor education centers, earning over 4,000 merit badges and countless new skills. In 2011 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Ventures, took to their communities and provided over 10,400 reported hours of community service, including providing 175,000 lbs of food to over 20 of the community’s food banks and food pantries. In September we had the pleasure of breaking ground on the new Alley Action Center at the J. Edward Mack Scout Reservation. Through the generosity of Distinguished Eagle Scout, Dr. Albert A. Alley and his wife Virginia, we started plans to build a new archery/rifle/bb gun range, a BMX pump bike course, and a new campfire circle, all of which will better meet the needs of our Scouting families. These upgrades to the program facilities at J. Edward Mack will continue to help us Prepare youth For Life. Each volunteer and supporter of Scouting is critical and we cannot complete our mission to Prepare. For Life. our youth without your support. On behalf of the Pennsylvania Dutch Council, BSA Executive Board, I thank you for your support and leadership in helping us provide programs that shape our youth, which in turn shapes our communities. Yours in Scouting, Robert Anspach Council President Letter from the President The Mission of Scouting The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
