Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is a 12-week family intervention program that has shown significant reductions in delinquency, re-arrest, out-of-home placement, violence, and substance abuse in at-risk youth. The goal of the mentor program is to match adult mentors to youth involved in the juvenile justice system. Mentors act as role models to help JRA youth lead a crime and substance abuse-free lifestyle. JRA has radically shifted how it provides parole aftercare services – from a primary focus on the offender to a service delivery model that focuses on the entire family. This model, Functional Family Parole (FFP) began in 2002 and is a key component of JRA’s Integrated Treatment Model (ITM). JRA parole counselors help families: n Improve how they work together to accomplish family goals. n Move beyond blaming and negative expectations of each other.
