The pure IP/Ethernet core of the
Total Access® 5000 is ideal for supporting
emerging services like IPTV and VoIP,
but there remains a large embedded
base of traditional TDM voice switching
infrastructure deployed. Although the
Total Access 5000 RPOTS and Combo cards
packetize the subscriber voice on the line
card, the Total Access 5000 Voice Gateway
card serves as a VoIP to TDM gateway,
allowing interface to traditional Class 5
TDM switches.
The Total Access 5000 24-Port CPOTS
Module is a Total Access 5000 access module
that provides 24 independent POTS interfaces.
Each interface consists of a 2-wire FXO
interface between a VF transmission and
signaling facility and the IP network. The
module contains the necessary circuitry to
convert voice from the customer’s loop(s) to
IP packets and to convert incoming packets
to voice. Analog signaling, as defined in
GR-57-CORE, Issue 1, will be transmitted to
(and received from) the IP network via Voice
Gateway Signaling.
The Total Access 5000 24-Port CPOTS
Module supports all existing POTS-based
modules for the Total Access 5000 platform
and Outside Plant DSLAMs. This includes
ADSL2+ Combo (1187100L1, L2), VDSL2
Combo (1187120L1), RPOTS (1187150L1),
all Fiber to the Premises [GPON and Active
Ethernet] ONT’s, the Total Access 1124P
(1179718L1 and 1179718G1) and
Total Access 1108VP (1179791G1/G2/G3)
Outside Plant DSLAM products.
The CPOTS module supports System CLI
via the SCM craft interface and remote access
through the System Web GUI and SNMP
management interfaces. It supports both
Y-Modem and Remote File Transfer options
for field upgrades, and it meets NEBS III,
GR-1089-CORE and UL60950 standards. In
all modes, the signaling protocol shall comply
with GR-57-CORE, Issue 1 or GR-303-CORE,
Issue 2 signaling states. The access module
will support Loop Start and Ground Start
modes in both locally switched and non-
locally switched applications.
The CPOTS Module will support the
service states: In service, Out of Service—
Maintenance, and Out of Service—Unassigned.
Each FXO port will be assigned service states
independently. The module will also support
test modes activated through the SCM
management interfaces. These test modes
are 1004 Hz tone generation, loop test, and
signaling bit test.
