Installation Please note! The pump must be installed with an automatic float switch (not included) to prevent running dry. Power Supply 1. The pump is equipped with a shock-proof plug according to regulations. The pump is designed to be connected to 120 VAC, 60 Hz safety socket. WARNING! If the power cord or plug is damaged, do not use the pump. The power cord or plug may only be repaired by a certified electrician. 2. Make sure that the socket is sufficiently secured and is in excellent condition. Areas of use 1. This pump is designed for use as a utility pump. 2. This pump can also be used to transfer water. Do not use for water containing particles. Assembly 1. Inlet and outlet hoses (not included) must be attached to pump prior to use. 2. Attach inlet and outlet hoses to Hose Fittings. Standard garden hose fittings will work. Inlet hose must be non-collapsible. 3. Attach the Strainer included with the Pump to the inlet end of the inlet hose. The Strainer will limit foreign material from entering the pump and help prevent or minimize damage. Mounting 1. Pump should be firmly mounted on a stable base prior to use. Item 65836 2. The pump and its electrical connections should be mounted so that they remain dry. Water may damage the pump if it enters any electrical component. For technical questions, please call 1-888-866-5797. Page 3 Operation After reading these instructions, consider the following points before starting the pump: 1. Verify that the delivery pipe is properly connected, and is not collapsible. 2. Verify that the electrical connection is 120 VAC, 60 Hz. 3. Verify that the electrical socket is in good condition. 4. Verify that water and moisture cannot get near the power supply socket. 5. Verify that the pump is installed so as to prevent running dry. 6. Remove Priming Plug (4) by turning counterclockwise. Fill pump with clean water. Replace Priming Plug by turning clockwise. 7. This pump operates immediately when plugged in. Do not plug in this pump when dry. Fill pump with water before plugging in. 8. Plug in Power Cord. Pump will operate immediately. It will take a few minutes for pump to prime and remove air from inlet hose. Water will then flow through the hoses and pump. NOTICE: Do not allow the Strainer to become clogged. Check it periodically to be sure that clear water can enter the inlet hose. NOTICE: Do not allow the pump to run dry. Running dry, the pump will overheat, and impeller and seals will be damaged. 9. To prevent accidents, disconnect the pump’s power supply after use. Clean, then store the pump indoors out of children’s reach. To Prevent Pump Damage and Allow Proper Operation: 1. Use with water or antifreeze only. Do not use for potable water or for any other liquids. 2. Do not use continuously. Use for a temporary function only, not in a permanent installation. 3. Do not use garden hose on inlet. Inlet hose must be rigid pipe or a coil-reinforced, non-collapsible suction hose. Page 4 For technical questions, please call 1-888-866-5797. Item 65836 Maintenance TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY FROM ACCIDENTAL OPERATION: Unplug the Pump from its electrical outlet before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures. 1. Flush the pump out with clean water after every use. 2. Clean sludge and debris from near the inlet. 3. Rinse the housing off with clean water. Carbon Brush Maintenance The carbon brushes may require maintenance when the motor performance of the pump decreases or stops working completely. To maintain the brushes: 1. Remove the Brush Cap on each side of the motor housing. 2. Remove the carbon brushes from the housing. Keep track of which orientation the old carbon brushes were in to prevent needless wear if they will be reinstalled. 6. When installing the carbon brushes, make sure the carbon portions of the carbon brushes contact the motor armature, and that the springs face away from the motor. Also, make sure the springs operate freely. 7. Replace the brush caps. Do not overtighten. Note: New carbon brushes tend to spark when first used until they wear and conform to the motor’s armature. 3. If either carbon brush is worn down by more than 1/2, replace both carbon brushes. 4. To clean old carbon brushes before reusing them, rub the contact areas with a pencil eraser. 5. Reinsert the old carbon brushes in the same orientation to reduce wear. Carbon Brush Holder (18) Carbon Brush (17) Carbon Brush Cap (16) Figure A Troubleshooting Problem Possible Causes Likely Solutions Pump will not start 1. No power at outlet. 2. Cord not connected. 3. Worn out or damaged Carbon Brushes. 1. Check power at outlet. 2. Check that cord is plugged in. 3. Replace Carbon Brushes. Pump operates but does not pump water 1. Fill pump with clean water before use. 2. Check and clean Strainer. 3. Turn off pump and complete mop up by hand. 4. Repair or replace Impeller as needed. 1. Pump is not primed. 2. Strainer is clogged. 3. All water has been pumped out to below the intake level. 4. Impeller is worn out or jammed Follow all safety precautions whenever diagnosing or servicing the pump.
