Facebook On Site Interview Scheduling and Preparation

Hi,
I have great news for you. We would like to invite you on-site for an interview with the Data Engineering team!
Some things I need from you:
Availability for your onsite interview in Menlo Park. Here are the dates that are currently available: Monday May
21st, Friday June 1st, Monday June 4th and June 8th . We don’t have any other dates open yet if you want more
dates in mid-end of June I can send over once published.
The onsite interview will last approximately 4 hours total and generally start at 10:00 AM PST depending on
availability.
Availability for a 30 to 45-minute preparaon call with me (the prep call is not part of the interview, but it is
designed to maximize your readiness for the interview. For the call, please have the aached prep guide open and
be in a quiet place where you can focus while you take notes). Ideally, the call should take place at least 1.5 to 2+
weeks prior to the interview.
On-site Interview Preparaon Informaon:
Please review the informaon below that describes our Data Engineering interview format.
Please also reference the aached document prior to our prep call as a guide.
Onsite Interview Format:
You will be meeng with 5 different people. The interview structure is as follows (in no parcular order):
1x – Data Modeling problem (1 hour)
2x – ETL problems (1 hour each)
1x – Ownership discussion (30 minutes)
1x – Lunch (45-60 minutes)
Data Modeling
You will brainstorm the data needs of a user product. Then you will design a data mart to support analycs use cases and
write select SQL statements to produce specific results.
ETL
You will solve a complex ETL (extract transform load) problem. You will design source and target schemas and
write SQL and procedural code to transform and load the data.
Ownership
Data Engineers need to take iniave in their role, so we will ask quesons about your past experiences where you have
been able to demonstrate this.
Lunch
Lunch with one of our Data Engineers, which will be your chance to ask all quesons you have about what life is like as a
Data Engineer at Facebook.
