MANUAL ON BUSDUCT – PUBLICATION NO. 318 COST : RS. 1500/‘Bus duct‘ in electrical power system forms a vital link for transfer of power with reliability
and efficiency. To match with the fast growth in the power sector, development and upgradation of bus duct design, manufacturing processes/technology, quality requirements
and accessories involved requires a consolidated documented guidelines/manual for the
use of all utilities and manufacturers. Presently not much of documented technical information is available in the country for Bus Duct except National/International Standards.
The Central Board of Irrigation of Power, realizing the requirement and demand was firstly
published Manual on Busduct in 2007. To incorporate the latest developments and to
facilitate the professional engineers associated in the field; this Manual has been updated
now. This manual covers all aspects of bus duct like Type of Bus Ducts, Design Requirements & Criteria, Layout, Specifications, Accessories, Supporting Structures, Manufacturing guidelines and Quality requirements, Testing requirements, Packing, Transportation and site Storage, Erection, Testing and Commissioning, Operation and Maintenance,
Spare Parts Management etc. This document is outcome of the ceaseless efforts made
by each & every member of the Expert Group.

CBIP has brought out updated publication titled, “Hydroelectric Projects in India” which is
a comprehensive publication giving complete information of all the hydro projects in the
country whether under operation, construction, concurred by CEA, or these for which
DPR/PFR has been prepared and those under survey and investigation etc.

The conventional retaining structures such as cantilever and counter-fort retaining walls
are elaborate and require far more construction time. In a congested locality, there is a
need to carry out the construction in a stipulated time. Hence, it is normally preferred to
adopt earth reinforced structures. Geosynthetics have facilitated construction of such
structures and enhanced their performance. These help in improving the strength of the
soil manifold by making it strong enough to carry out the desired functionality satisfactorily.
The book is edited by Dr. G. Venkatappa Rao (Former Professor, Department of Civil
Engineering, IIT Delhi and Past President, Indian Chapter of IGS), Dr. G.V.S. Suryanarayana
Raju (President, Indian Chapter of IGS, and Engineer-in-Chief (R&B), Government of

PROCEEDINGS OF THE 6TH ASIAN ROCK MECHANICS SYMPOSIUM
