The Wo r l d ’s Favourite System

The success of CombBind®lies in its inherent versatility and simplicity. Based on the punching of 21 equally spaced rectangular

(3.2 x 8mm) holes per 297mm (A4) length and the insertion of one of the 14 capacities of Plastic 'Comb',

the system can adapt to almost any length of paper, and from literally 2 pages to a maximum of 450 (80gsm)*.

The hole dimension and spacing gives security of bind across the full page capability of the system and allows true

'lie-flat' usage - ideal when copying individual pages.

C o m b B i n d ®elements or 'Combs' are designed and produced with extra long 'fingers'; wide backs or 'spines'; using

4 gauges of high quality plastic resin that becomes thicker as the capacity of Comb becomes larger. The resins

also include UV Inhibitors to ensure that Combs do not fade or crack over time.

These key features deliver: easy-page changing; page security in relation to document length/weight and usage

period; customizable 'Combs' for shelf recognition and excellent presentation qualities.

How to?

In all cases - type of equipment, size of book, location, etc - CombBind®is a four step process:

Collation (of pages to be bound) Punching, Insertion and Close.

The Punching processes can be done manually or electrically depending upon model/system choice.

Selecting your Binding 'Comb'

The Binding 'Combs' that are used with the CombBind®system are available in 14 capacities;

6 standard colours; 4 non-standard colours and 5 industry 'standard' lengths. Choice depends

upon page numbers; paper size/weight; colour co-ordination; customization requirements and

equipment compatibility.

Covers, the Strips are either folded over (Velobind®)

or cut and welded by the unit (Surebind™).

StripBind™

S i m p l i c i t y, Security & Speed

The two categories of GBC StripBind™are represented by two world-renowned brands - VeloBind®and Surebind™.

The Velobind®re-closeable' 4-pin format allows typical small desktop or personal usage to bind and re-open

with just one simple A4 plastic strip. The strategically equally spaced holes ensure that up to 200* pages are

securely held along the full length and by simply folding over the pins they adjust to the number of pages and

'lock in' for security. Page changing is simple - unlock, add and re-close.

In contrast, the Surebind™'secure' 10 pin format is the Office/Professional solution when fully secure and

tamper-proof documents are specified. The 10 pins are pushed through texts of up to 750 pages* and

welded accordingly. Page changing is only possible if the weld is broken and the text fully rebound.

The Surebind™format additionally permits previously CombBind®bound documents (21 hole 9/16”) to be re-bound

securely with the Surebind™strip - a great feature when moving from draft to final versions that should not be altered.

constant page rotation, sheets will not detach and detract from the value of the document.

Robustness of finish is enhanced by two key factors: the use of 34 square holes along the full paper length of an A4 sheet

(3 holes per 25.4mm) and the 'double-loop' design of the wire element itself. The 34 square holes maintain rigidity and

enable the free rotation of the sheets through the holes whilst the 'double-loop' construction minimizes flexing and bending.

When bound, pages can only be replaced or amended by removal of the Wire itself. Ideal when page security or

confidentiality is an integral requirement of the document.

All Wires are pre-cut to standard paper sizes with turned ends ensuring no loss of sheet through continuous rotation and use.

'crimped 'to turn over the ends of the

filament and the process is complete.

CoilBind™uses a total of 47 small round holes for a single A4 sheet through which a thin high quality plastic

filament with an excellent 'memory' is wound - this is the secret to its full-page rotation capabilities and its

excellent weight-to-strength ratio.

The Plastic filament ColorCoil™is then 'crimped' at both ends leaving a secure but flexible finish that will not

fade or break. Page changing and/or alteration is possible only by cutting one end of the Coil and unwinding.

The amended document must then be re-bound and re-crimped to ensure confidentiality and page security.

With Coils available in 7 capacities, CoilBind™can produce documents up to 145* pages of 80 gsm and by

ThermaBind™is modern simply because one can arrive at what is that published 'book-look' in no more than about one

minute - and easily. It's a perfect example of a complicated professional Bindery process made simple for the office user.

The secret lies in the pre-formed integral ThermaBind™Cover in which is already extruded a high contact adhesive that

when used in the appropriate model, penetrates firmly into the fibres of the paper to form a totally secure 'spine' exactly

like a paperback book. The spine is integrated into the Cover itself to form one unique piece making the process

simple, clean and quick.

The profile of the adhesive extrusion is even designed in a 'U' that ensures the first and last pages are always

in contact with the molten adhesive giving total page security from the first to the last page.

The operating temperatures of the ThermaBind™system are carefully controlled to ensure no liquefaction of the
