Project 2018-19
VII Semester CSE Students
General guidelines and instructions related with different activities during major project are
as follows:
1. Duration of the project
Unlike minor project, which is of a semester long, Major project is a yearlong project
divided into two semesters (VII and VIII). Therefore, you are required to work on such
project which is justifiable for yearlong project. Change in topic or area or both after
7th semester will cause a penalty of 20% marks.
2. Interaction with project supervisor
a) You are required to meet the project supervisor at least once in a week.
b) You are required to maintain log of your meetings (viz. Date and brief
description of the discussion).
c) The log book must be duly signed by respective supervisor.
d) This log book will serve as a proof of your meeting with your supervisor at the
time of viva and it contains marks.
3. Phases of project evaluation (by panel )
a) A panel of 3 faculty members (2 faculty members from department and 1
supervisor) will evaluate your project work twice (Mid Evaluation and Final
Evaluation) in a semester.
b) Dates of Mid Evaluation (in VII Semester) are from 4th Oct. to 6th Oct. 2018
(exact date, time, venue and panel members will be announced 2-3 days prior to
evaluation on study material).
c) Dates of Final Evaluation (in VII Semester) is from 12th Dec to 13th Dec 2018
(exact date, time, venue and panel members will be announced 2-3 days prior to
evaluation on study material (SM)).
NOTE: Major project and Term paper will be evaluated together. However grades
for both will be separate. Follow guidelines for both separately on SM from time to
time.
4. Requirements and expectations during different phases of project evaluation
a) In each evaluation, you are required to make project report (Format is available on
SM for both midterm and end term) and presentation of your work (preferably a
diagram (class diagram/ component diagram or a flow graph depicting main modules
and their interactions) of your work. Pl note – NO PPT.
b) Expectations in Mid Evaluation
Comprehensive Literature Survey – This is a part of Term Paper – Instructions
regarding same will be available to you by respective Coordinator.

i.

ii. Problem statement and its significance, overview of proposed solution and
novelty/benefits.
iii. Requirement specification, design, risk analysis and mitigation plan.

iv. Test plan, proposed implementation details along with some working module.
General help files related with many expectations viz. risk analysis, requirement
specification, mitigation plan, are also kept on SM.
c) Expectations in Final Evaluation:
i.

Comprehensive Literature Survey – This is a part of Term Paper – Instructions
regarding same will be available to you by respective Coordinator.

ii.

Updated problem statement and its significance, overview of proposed
solution and novelty/benefits.

iii.

Requirements specifications and design documentation, risk analysis and
mitigation plan

iv.

Mastery of used tools and components (including open source)

v.

Functionality, complexity, and quality (including efficiency) of implemented
subsystems and modules

vi.

Quality of system integration and usability

vii.

Quality of robustness and testing

d) Expectations in Project Report writing
Originality, Completeness, Correctness, Organization, Flow, Composition, Clarity,
Diagrams, Tables, Citation, etc
You are required to take approval from your supervisor before taking a print of same.
e) Mentorship
You are required to provide assistance to junior students by acting as a mentor in their
lab once a week for 2 hrs. Instruction on same will be issued to you by respective
coordinators. At the end of semester you will be given marks out of 10 by respective
faculty whom you will report throughout the semester for mentorship. These marks
will strictly be awarded based on your attendance, punctuality, quality of problem
solving and interaction with students.
All those students whose CGPA is less than 6.5 will report to their respective
supervisors and they will be given tasks in the form of assignments or study as a
substitute of mentorship to enhance their skills. They will be evaluated by panel
members at the time of end term viva.
f) At the end of semester (VIII) you are required to plag check your report through antiplagiarism software available in JIIT LRC to enhance quality of your work. Project
reports and research papers (if any) are to be submitted to LRC at least 8-10 days in
advance (after taking approval from your supervisor) before submitting for
award/publications.
You are advised to sincerely / strictly follow the instructions mentioned above.
