Work and Productivity may be important, but

they aren’t the only important things in life, or even

the most important things in life. Most of us would

probably agree that God and our family should

come before our job, and that the whole point of

work is to help us support ourselves and our fami-

lies. A much neglected area of many people’s lives

today is leisure. We are so busy with work and the

workaday aspects of life (e.g., cooking, cleaning,

etc.) that we don’t ﬁ nd time for play. Play can be

anything from playing catch with your children to

enjoying music to playing games. The arts are also

an important aspect of leisure, and simply going

to a museum or to the movies can be a nice break

from the monotony of our work lives. Children are

often better at playing than adults, so you might

just let the kids decide on the playtime activity. Try

something you haven’t tried before. Throw a Frisbee

or make up a new game. Put on a play with your

family or friends, or play a guessing game. There

is no end to the ways in which we might enjoy our

leisure time.

Thursday.

Cornett is responsible

for investigating livestock

and farm machinery thefts

in Kingﬁ sher, Logan, Okla-

homa, Canadian, Blaine,

Dewey, Custer, Ellis and

Roger Mills counties. He is a

staunch advocate of brand-

ing cattle and informed the

group that altering a brand

is a felony in the state of

Oklahoma.

“Unbranded cattle thefts

are a difﬁ cult crime to solve.

Most thieves are convicted

felons who grew up in rural

areas. Over 70 percent of the

thieves want the money to

buy methamphetamine,”

Cornett said.

In 2012, there were $2.7

million worth of stolen cattle

and farm machinery report-

ed to their agency. Of that, $1

million was recovered.
