Afile format developed jointly by Kodak, Microsoft, Hewlett
Packard, and Live Picture Corporation. Currently
developing as the international standard for PC image files,
it supports the following features not available with other
image file formats.
• All images are divided into 64x64-pixel tiles so that
unnecessary data is not processed during enlargement
and movement. Each tile is compressed with the JPEG
format, this minimizing loss of image data.
• As each file contains multiple high-resolution files the
image may be automatically displayed at the optimum
resolution.
• As the image is displayed at the optimum resolution, and
only the image data tiles for the displayed part of the
image are processed, memory use and processing power
required for display are minimized, thus permitting high-
speed image display.
