Oklahoma Driver Education and training

Promo Code: COOL

In 2001, National Driver Training worked with the Oklahoma Senate to create
Senate Bill 747 that introduced Parent Taught Driver Education to the state.
Since then, National Driver Training’s course has been the driver education
program of choice for thousands of Oklahoma families.
Oklahoma Requirements
Oklahoma law requires new teen drivers to complete driver education to get an unrestricted
license. Parent taught driver education must include 30 class hours and 55 hours of behindthe-wheel training.
Online classwork may be started at any time. However, behind-the-wheel training begins
immediately after the classwork. In order to complete behind-the-wheel at home, the student
must be at least 15 ½ years of age, possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s Instruction (Learner’s)
Permit, and the parent must submit an affidavit and have it accepted by the Oklahoma Dept.
of Public Safety stating the parent is a licensed driver and the vehicle is properly insured.
What is Parent Taught Driver Education?
Parent Taught Driver Education is state approved driver education taught by individual
parents at home. Approved PTDE courses will include reading material, traffic safety videos,
tests, and guidelines for behind-the-wheel instruction. In addition, National Driver Training
provides a toll free tutor support line to help parents and teens through the process of earning
a permit and license in Oklahoma.
What does National Driver Training Provide?
National Driver Training provides a complete Parent Taught Driver Education curriculum to
guide families through the steps to get a permit and a license. The course is designed under
the principles of graduated driver licensing, which means that your new teen driver will need
to master basic skills before moving on to more complex skills. Reading and skills training
are presented side-by-side in a concurrent fashion to ensure that the two forms of instruction
support and strengthen one another.
The course is available online so the material can be accessed from anywhere. The online
program integrates reading, videos, and testing in one online presentation. It also includes
downloadable guidelines for behind-the-wheel training as well as skills evaluations for each
level of practice.
Families who do not want to complete the program online will be interested in purchasing an
upgrade for an additional fee. Available upgrades include:

Is parent taught driver education approved?
Yes. Our parent taught driver education course is approved by the Department of Public Safety.
Who may take a parent taught driver education course?
Oklahoma teens age 15 to 17 may enroll in parent taught driver education. Students must
register with the DPS. Registration is free and the form may be downloaded from our website.
Do the parents have to take a special class to be certified?
No. Parents do not have to take a certification class, but the State does have the following
requirements for PTDE instructors:
(1) A parent-taught driver education course must be instructed by a parent, adoptive parent,
step parent, or court appointed legal guardian.
(2) Every parent instructor must have a valid driver license which must be in his or her
possession at all times while performing behind-the-wheel instruction and must have:
(A) no suspensions, cancelations, revokations, or denials within the past twelve months;
(B) no convictions of possession or use of alcohol or drugs within the past twelve months;
(C) not reflect more than five point violations on his or her driving record; and
(D) no administrative action or pending action relating driving under the influence or
driving while impaired.
What is the class schedule?
Since the course is available online, students can complete their driver education at their own
pace, during times that do not interfere with their school or work schedules.
How do I get a permit?
After registering with the DPS, you will receive an approval number. At that time, you will need
to study the Oklahoma Driver Manual to prepare for your permit test. When you are ready to pass
the permit test, download your receipt and take it to the DPS along with your approval number
and other required forms. At the DPS, you will need to take a written test to get your permit.
How do I get my license?
You will need to complete the entire 30 class hours online and log 55 hours of driving with your
parents. When all of the course requirements have been met, you may request your completion
certificate and it will be mailed to you. The completion form must be taken to the DPS when you
go in for your driving skills test.
Does your program have an expiration date?
No, the program does not expire. You may take as much time as you need.
How much does it cost?
Your student gets unlimited access to the complete program online for only $74.00. Families
who do not want to complete the program online will be interested in purchasing an upgrade for
an additional fee (see order form).
How can I sign up?
Enrolling in our program is easy. Direct your browser to www.NationalDriverTraining.com.
You may also call our office directly at 1-800-942-2050.
