Kindel craftsmen have adapted the graceful armchair from a set of four matching

side chairs that were made in Philadelphia for Thomas and Elizabeth Edwards.

Although the total number of chairs in the original set is unknown, two identical

chairs are in a private collection, and a seventh was sold at Christie's in 1985 for

$104,000, a record price.

This chair typifies the genius of Thomas Chippendale who combined many

styles to form his own which can be seen in the Chinese bow-shaped crest rail,

gothic tracery of the splat, ancient acanthus leaves on the ears, and the French

bell flowers. The details on each chair represent sixteen hours of hand carving.
