CE5377/6077 Project Instructions
Aim: To illustrate and discuss the use of one or more numerical methods covered or relevant
to the module.
Topic: See file on CE5377 or CE6077 project.
CA (20%): Report (8%), Presentation (7%), Participation (5%)
1. Explain clearly how you solve the problem, making use of what you have learnt in the
module.
2. If additional information is required, read and understand how others have resolved the
issue. Adapt and combine it with your numerical framework. Explain why such a strategy
is chosen.
3. Present clearly your numerical implementation, including your Matlab file, for the problem
considered.
4. Avoid using existing software to solve the problem, except for comparison purpose if
needed.
5. There is no constraint on the report format or length. However, please be concise to
highlight the key results. Explain the findings in a systematic flow. Do not present lots of
data and figures without meaningful discussions (an indication that you are not able to
interpret the results properly).
6. The report grade depends mainly on the clarity of report, quality of results and discussions,
as well as conclusions and lesson learnt from this project.
7. Your classmates will help to grade your presentation. This reinforces the focus to explain
the concepts, strategy and results clearly. If your classmates cannot understand the
presentation, they cannot award high grades.
8. Bear in mind the time constraint. Do not make this into a mega-project!
9. Do your honest job. If you cannot complete the intended scope or achieve good results,
report whatever you have done and the lesson learnt.
10. Sleeping members beware! There will be a peer evaluation on the contributions of each
group member. You will receive a project grade based on your work done.
11. Compress the report and subroutines into a single zip file. Name the zip file as
“Project_Group?”. Upload the file into IVLE folder “Student Submission” >> “Project”
by 4 Oct 2017, 2359hrs.
12. Penalty for plagiarism: 50-100% depending on the severity, plus disciplinary action!
