1 General

1.1 Software Revision

These release notes cover Polycom‟s SoundPoint/SoundStation IP - BootROM

version 4.3.1.

1.2 Important Notes

 The BootROM for the VVX 1500 is not included in this release. For SIP

3.2.2 and future releases, the BootROM (for the VVX product) will be

distributed as part of the SIP software image as there is a tight

dependency between them. Products other than the VVX 1500 will

continue to be supported with a separate BootROM image. Refer to

technical bulletin TB 53522 for upgrade instructions.

 BootROM 4.3.0 does not include support for the SoundPoint IP 430.

BootROM 4.2.0 does not include support for the following phone models:

SoundPoint IP 300, 301, 500, 501, 600, 601 and SoundStation IP 4000.

These are termed „Legacy‟ phone models. If you have these phones

installed in your network the following options can be used if you wish to

upgrade the BootROM to 4.2.0

 Continue to host an older version of the „split‟ BootROM for these

phones e.g. you could place bootrom file 2345-11300-001-

bootrom1.ld from the BootROM Release 4.1.3 on your provisioning

server while updating/replacing the files for other phone models.

This step can be achieved by unzipping the BootROM 4.2.0

distribution file into the same directory as an earlier BootROM had

been placed and replacing the files for the current phone models.

 If an applicable „split‟ image for the Legacy phone models is not

found the phone will still boot, but the boot time will be increased

due to the time taken for the phone to search the bootrom.ld file for

an applicable image.

 This BootROM version is not compatible with the MGCP application and

must not be used on phones running MGCP.

 When the BootROM is changed on the phone the Flash File System is re-

formatted. To ensure that user settings such as contacts are preserved

across the upgrade, a provisioning server must be used for the phone to

store back-up copies of the local settings and contact directory

information.

 The Zero Touch provisioning (ZTP) feature introduced in the current

release 4.3.1 is “UNSUPPORTED” unless the phones are running both

BootROM/Updater version 4.3.1 and UC Software version 3.3.2

1.5 Image Signatures

Cryptographic signatures are added to all downloaded image files as a security

feature. BootROMs 3.0.0 and later require that an image has a valid signature to

prevent malicious code from being used. Since no prior BootROMs have this

signature it is not possible to downgrade the BootROM below 3.0.0. Similarly it

will not be possible to run older applications. Care should be taken when

deciding to upgrade to later BootROMs.

1.6 Distribution Files

The following files constitute the 4.3.1.0440 distribution of the

SoundPoint IP/SoundStation IP/VVX BootROM software. For centrally

provisioned systems, copy these files to the boot server in order to upgrade the

BootROM software on the phone.

is not always possible to go to certain versions even if the hardware is

the phone will not be provisioned as a result of memory allocation

 69195: SoundStation IP 7000: The "CLink Mode" parameter cannot be

edited in the BootROM/Updater setup menu.

cannot be upgraded using TFTP.

 69671: Phones fail to receive the VLAN ID from the DHCP option 129

in a specific scenario and boot up with the native VLAN.

 69934: The phone displays incorrect progress notification when it is

attempting to update the software image.

 55648: Socket bind for passive FTP data connection will use another

random port.

 56333: Phone will reboot automatically when the lease time expires

after disabling and then enabling the DHCP server.

 56381: SoundStation IP 6000, 7000: Phones do not accept a DHCP

offer because the packets from the DHCP server do not include the

terminating END (0xFF) option.

 56401: The „Admin‟ password length in the boot menu and advanced

menu are different.

actual measured consumption. The fix involved updating the

software and technical bulletin.

 57629: A corruption to the Flash configuration will reset, but will not

use the factory default values.

 57863: Phones do not accept a DHCP INFORM response if a packet

does not contain the END option.

 59352: The phone executes an application despite an image

signature error.

 59470: SoundPoint IP 5000: “ModelNumber” element in

“DeviceInformation” XML block is not consistent with other phones.

 59625: Automatic BootBlock upgrade fails through MAC.cfg file.

an HDX, the IP 7000 continuously reboots itself.

 56017: BootROM 4.2.x contains unnecessary firmware intended for

SoundPoint IP 320, 321, 325, 330, 331, 335, 430, 450, 550, 560, 650,

670 phones.

 56303: Updating the bootBlock fails when re-installing the same

bootBlock.

 56307: BootROM 4.2.x: If “RAM Loading” is enabled,

(APP_NET_LOAD_FILE_PATH="sip.ld"), then the BootROM will

download the sip.ld image. But then it reboots instead of running the

SIP Application software.

 56488: SoundStation IP 6000, 7000: DHCP client asks for duplicate

options of "Router"(3) and "Domain Name"(15).
