Community Service
Purpose
The purpose of the community service requirement at Steele Canyon High School is to help students become
well-rounded, empathetic young adults. Additionally, community service helps students find purposeful
passion, leading them towards satisfying professional lives.
Social-Emotional Benefits of Community Service
● Develop compassion and empathy towards others as you see the complex lives and struggles faced by
others in your community
● Gain a more extensive view of the world than a high school classroom can provide
● Develop a sense of connectedness and civic responsibility
Academic and / or Professional Benefits of Community Services
● View various scenarios that happen in workplaces and have the opportunity to activate critical thinking
skills and make connections to knowledge gained in educational settings
● Develop relationships with adults in profession of interest
● Develop a well-rounded application for college admissions - demonstrating maturity and commitment to
both personal goals and community wellness
Fully participating in one’s community, via community service, allows for repayment of the generosity and
kindness that has been shown by others.
