Top Baba Sodal Fair This fair is held in memory of a local child deity Sodal on his death anniversary. This fair falls in the month of September and the venue is near the Smadh of Baba Sodal where his portrait is adorned with garlands. At the end of the fair offerings are distributed among the pilgrims and they sprinkle a few drops on their body. Top Baisakhi Festival Baisakhi festival celebrated in the month of April is of special significance to the Sikh community. It was on this day that Guru Gobind Singh founded the 'Khalsa' (Sikh brotherhood). The holy book of the Sikhs, 'Granth Sahib' is taken in a procession, led by the 'Panj Pyaras' (five senior Sikhs) who are symbolic of the original leaders. The occasion is marked by a lot of feasting and merry making. Top Devi Talab Mandir This old city is the house of another old temple known by the name of Devi Talab Mandir. It is exactly located in the heart of Jalandhar and is entirely dedicated to Goddess Durga. The Devi Talab Mandir has now been renovated and a new temple has been built in its center. Another interesting feature of this temple is that recently a model of Amarnath Yatra has been built in the premises. Another importance of the place is for the old temple of Goddess Kali, which stands by the side of this temple. It is one of the fifty-one `Shakti Peethas` and here the Goddess Kali is known by the name of Tripurmalini. It is believed that Sati`s right breast fell here. Lord Shiva in this temple is known as Bhishan Bhairav. An old temple of goddess Kali also stands by the side of the Devi Talab. Top Harballabh Sangeet Sammelan A National Musical Fair held annually during the last week of December at Devi Talab about 11/2km from the railway station. This Sammelan was started by Baba Harballabh in memory of his Guru Swami Tulja Giri in 1875 and is still going strong even after 130years. Shree Baba Harballabh Sangeet Sammelan is the oldest festival of Indian Classical Music in the world. The best of the country's exponents of instrumental and vocal classical music gather here for the Sammelan. People from all walks of life look forward to attend this rare gathering of musicians. Mahatma Gandhi had attended this fair in 1929. It is one of the premier musical fairs in North India. The Government of India has recognized this festival as one of the National Festivals of Music. Top Imam Nasir Mausoleum and Jamma Masjid Imam Nasir Mausoleum is an 800-year-old beautifully designed piece of architecture, which is located in the heart of Jalandhar. Mughal Serai alias Serai Nurmahal, said to be constructed for Nurjahan, is a remarkable specimen of oriental architecture. Its massive gate embellished with arches, filigree work and tiles of beautiful patterns, topped by 4 delicate minarets make it a place worth a visit. Top Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Museum, Khatkar Kalan Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Museum has been constructed to pay homage to the great revolutionary martyrs of the Punjab, who laid down their lives for the liberation of their motherland. The museum was inaugurated on the 50th martyrdom anniversary of the great Martyr Sardar Bhagat Singh. Situated about 55 kilometers from Jalandhar, at Khatkar Kalan, on Nawanshahar-Banga road, the museum displays the memorable belongings of the revolutionary martyrs of the Punjab. The half burnt ashes of Sardar Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev including the blood soaked sand and blood stained newspaper in which their ashes were wrapped are preserved and exhibited here. A few other places worth mentioning are a Sanyas Ashram (popularly known as Bahrian-da-Talab) on the Kapurthala road. Nathan-Di Bagichi, Darbar Muhammad Jamal Zahra (in Basti Sheikh), Baba Jhandianala (in Basti Nau), shrines of Baba Lakki Shah Pir and Dargah Pir Hazi Shah Qutab situated in the Jalandhar Cantonment. Top Shaheedi Jor Mela, Parasrampur Parasrampur is a village in Jalandhar District, in Punjab. Parasrampur is famous for its Shaheedi Jor Mela which is held annually in the memory of Shaheed Banda Singh Bahadur Ji. The Baba Lodhiana Youth Sports Club (Regd.) constructed a sports stadium on 4 acres of land in Parasrampur. The stadium hosts the annual 3 day sports and cultural event in November and hosts the Mata Chanan Kaur Dhanoa Punjab Sports Championship which form part of the Shaheedi Jor Mela. The Mata Chanan Kaur Dhanoa Punjab Sports Championship includes Kabaddi, wrestling, athletics, volleyball, body building chamionships, weightlifting, dog racing and bullock cart racing. Kabaddi Players receive the largest cash prizes ever awarded at this tournament. After the sporting events have concluded, a programme of cultural entertainment continues late into the night. The annual 3 day festival attracts more than 4,000 sportmen and women from all over the world. Parasrampur is famous for its Shaheed Banda Singh Bahadur Ji Gurdwara. Top Shiv Temple The temple situated at Gur Mandi near Imam Nasir mausoleum dates back to the Lodhi Era. Believed to be built by the Nawab of Sultanpur Lodhi, the mandir is a blend of Muslim Hindu architecture. The main gate is built in the style of a mosque while the rest of the building is in Hindu style. There is a legend that when Jalandhar was Nawabs territory, he had eyed a newly married Hindu girl who was a devotee of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva in the form of a serpent saved her honour. Awed by the appearance of this serpent the Nawab apologised to the girl and built the temple on her bidding. Top Sodal Mandir Sodal Temple is situated near Devi Talab Temple, on Sodal road. Here, Lord Sodal is worshipped in the Temple. Every year in Anand Chaturdashi of Bhadon, which is in midSeptember, a fair is held at the Samadhi of Baba Sodal. Inside the samadhi, there is a painted portrait of Baba Sodal, decorated with garlands and rosaries. The offerings are distributed among the pilgrims and they sprinkle a few drops on their body. Thousands of devotees throng this temple during 'Anand Chaturdashi' in September. The child Deity here is believed to grant wishes of devotees. Fr. John Macodnnel in 1947, in the memory of St. Patrick. In 1955, the Catholic Mission of the Indian Punjab was raised to the status of Apostolic Prefecture, with its headquarter at Jalandhar. The church in the city subsequently became the Cathedral or the Mother Church of Punjab. The foundation stone for the new church was laid in 1986. Top Tulsi Mandir An ancient monument in the City is the temple of Vrinda, wife of Jalandhara, in the Kot Kishan Chand locality. It is now also known as Tulsi Mandir. On one side of the temple is a tank which is said to have been the bathing place of the demon Jalandhara. At some distance is the temple of Gupha, with the image of Annapurna, the goddess of plenty, installed in it. Also nearby lies the Brahm Kund and some temples dedicated to Shiva. Near the Balmiki gate is the Sheetla Mandir, said to be as old as the City of Jalandhar. Within its premises are also two small old temples of Hanuman and Shiva.
