8-Hour Child Passenger Safety Training Class in Spanish Announcing a special opportunity for Spanish-speaking persons: Learn how to help parents use car seats, booster seats and seat belts! Attend an 8-hour class about child passenger safety. The class will be taught in Spanish by a certified instructor from the National Latino Children’s Institute, San Antonio, Texas. Who should attend? Spanish-speaking persons working or volunteering in safety-related and child-focused organizations in Washington, such as childcare centers, WIC programs, DSHS, healthcare providers, churches, law enforcement offices, fire departments, schools, EMS, etc. Where/When: Monday, June 2nd in Tri-Cities Tuesday, June 3rd in Yakima Thursday, June 5th in Everett Friday, June 6th in Federal Way Why: You will learn important information about: q q q q q q Why buckling up is important How car seats and booster seats protect children in a crash Which car seats fit which children How seats fit into cars Washington’s seat belt and car seat laws How and where parents, grandparents, and caregivers can find information on protecting their children in the car Continental breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack will be provided. Class will be held from approximately 8 AM – 5 PM. Professional credit may be available for CEU’s. Travel reimbursement may be available. Limited space is available. Our goal is to train a broad-based group of Spanishspeaking child passenger safety advocates who represent a variety of safety-related and child-focused organizations. Class participants will be selected through an application process. Those who attend will take home sample seats for demonstration and to help educate parents in their community. To apply, please fill out your completed application and return to the contact in your region by May 12, 2003. You will receive notification from the selection committee by May 16, 2003. Information on specific location and driving directions will be provided at that time. Please reserve the class date on your calendar now.
