Lifecore Restore and Sustain
ifecore Biomedical, Inc., headquartered in Chaska, Minnesota, develops and manufactures
a wide array of medical devices, including an extensive line of dental restorative comp-
nents, implants and surgical tools.
Several implant systems are offered by Lifecore: Restore, Sustain, Stage-1, Renova and the
new internal connection Prima. Restore with an external hex, is offered as a self-tapping
threaded implant in Ti, TPS or RBM coating in small (SD), regular (RD) or wide (WD) diame-
ters. Restore is also available as an external hex cylinder implant in TPS or HA coating in
three diameters.
Sustain, with an HA coating, is available as an external hex, threaded or cylindrical implant
in small, medium and wide diameters. An Internal Bevel Cylindrical Sustain implant is
offered as well in three diameters.
The Stage-1 implant has an internal locking mortice taper with an RBM or TPS coating.
Components are compatible with the standard Straumann ITI components listed in the ITI
section of this manual.
The Renova has an internal hex with either a straight or tapered design.
The Prima is offered either as the Solo-a one-piece tapered design or as the Connex-with a
proprietary 6-lobed internal connection.
All RD diameter Restore and Sustain external hex implant components are Branemark
Regular Platform compatible. For a complete listing of Branemark compatible components,
refer to the Branemark section of this manual.

Terminology of Components
Restore or Sustain
Restorative Components:
The restorative components are the elements used to fabricate a restoration that
will be connected to the implant(s). The restoration may also be attached to an
intermediate component called a tissue extension or abutment which in turn is
connected to the implant(s).
Tissue Extension:
The TE (Tissue Extension) also referred to as an abutment, is the intermediate
connector between the implant and the restoration, it may extend above the
tissue. In some instances, a TE extension is subgingival, to provide a more
esthetic restoration.
Implant Body:
The implant body is placed into the bone for approximately 4-6 months to allow for
osseointegration. The implants should not be loaded prior to osseointegration.

Implant Standardization:
The UMA tissue extension, compatible with the RP Restore and Sustain external
hex only, was developed to standardize the many different implant companies'
components and instruments for a more economically controlled inventory and for
simplicity of restorative procedures. Its tapered/hexagon fitting surface is identi-
cal, regardless of the size or type of implant employed, while its screw-in base is
implant specific.

section for compatible
components.
