Electronic Reloading Scale
Instructions
Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of the Lyman 1000 XP Precision
Electronic scale. This is a precision piece of equipment and should
be handled with care. Before using the 1000 XP, please read these
instructions fully and become familiar with its operation and
features. If you do not understand some of the operations or have
questions above the use of the scale, call us at 1-800-22-LYMAN
(Foreign customers may call 860-632-2020).
Set-Up
1. Select a location for the 1000 XP that is level and stable. It is
recommended that the scale be located away from a loading
bench equipped with a reloading press. Most benches are not
heavy enough to prevent vibrations being transferred to the
scale. The scale should also be positioned away from any source
of drafts, air currents, or temperature changes. The 1000 XP is
sensitive enough to be affected by these conditions.
2. The 1000 XP runs on a 9-volt battery, or an AC power adapter.
The battery is installed in the compartment on the underside of
the scale. There is an outlet for the optional power adapter on
the rear left-hand side of the scale.
3. The scale is equipped with a clear plastic dust cover. The cover
can be hinged back or removed if desired. A latch at the front of
the scale locks the dust cover down. To remove the dust cover,
slide the button at the rear of the scale to the right. Unlatch the
dust cover and tilt it back. Tip the cover slightly to the right and
out of its left-hand groove first, then and lift the cover from the
slot on the right-hand side. To reinstall the cover, reverse the
above procedure. It is recommended that the cover be in place
when the scale is not in use to protect the platform and load cell.

4. For the first use, it is recommended that the scale be allowed
to stabilize to its surroundings for 24 hours. This is
particularly important if the scale has been recently transported
or subjected to changes in temperatures.
Calibration
1. It is recommended that the scale be calibrated before each use,
or if the scale is moved or jarred in any way.
2. Turn on the scale by pressing the ON/OFF button.
3. Press the ZERO button to reset the scale to zero.
4. Press and hold down the CAL button until the display shows
“Cal 20” then release it.
5. Place the supplied 20-gram calibration weight on the platform
and press the CAL button again. (Press and release, do not hold
it down.)
6. The scale will now show 0.0 on the display. Remove the 20-gram
weight. The display will now show approximately –308.6.
7. Press the ZERO button one more time to reset zero.
Scale Use
1. Place the empty powder pan on the platform and press the ZERO
button to reset the scale to zero.
2. The scale is now ready to weigh powder.
3. The scale can be changed to display grains or grams as desired.
Press the MODE button to switch the scale from one to the
other. In grain mode, the scale will display “gn”, in gram mode
the scale will display “g”.
4. It is recommended that the ZERO button be pressed on
occasion during use (approximately every 10 loads being
weighed) to ensure that the scale is maintaining its zero or
any time the display is off zero when a empty powder pan is
on the platform.
5. The scale is equipped with an auto-shutoff feature when batteries
are in use. The scale will auto-shutoff after approximately 15
minutes of non-use to save battery life.
6. The display will show “LoBat” to indicate a low power condition
when a battery is being used.
7. To shut-off the scale, press and hold down the ON/OFF button
for several seconds.

Cautions
1. Never leave a load on the scale for a prolonged period of time as
this can damage the load cell.
2. Always place the calibration weight or a load gently onto the
scale. Dropping the weight on the scale may cause permanent
damage to the load cell.
3. Do not attempt to disassemble the scale. There are no user serv-
iceable parts inside the scale.
4. Do not pull or pry on the platform. Damage to the scale can result.
Limited Warranty
Lyman Products Corp. warrants to the original retail purchaser
of this scale for a period of one year from the date of purchase that

will be repaired or replaced free of charge, provided that the
