For the first time ever, NGEAO presented Lifetime Achievement Awards to three long
term members for their dedication of time and effort to NGEAO, its events and
causes. What makes NGEAO great is the members, and as members of an
organization that is 47 years old, it is time to recognize those who are instrumental in
developing the incredible organization we have today, including the educational and
scholarship programs. This award will be presented annually to a member(s) for
outstanding contributions to the industry and the organization.

Reception

After considering many worthy candidates this year, the board chose three members
for the first Lifetime Achievement Award: Diana Cox, Marketing Representative at
Kaiser-Francis Oil, Rick Fitzgerald, Director Producer Services at ConocoPhillips and
Linda Roberts, Manager Business Development Centerpoint Gas Transmission.
Diana has been a long term Board member, serving as Treasurer, Secretary and
Annual Conference Chair. Diana was the catalyst for growth of the Annual
Conference. In fact, it was Diana who was the one responsible for moving the
conference to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino!
Rick is a 20 year member of NGEAO, who has been continuously involved in the
educational efforts of the organization for the members and the industry through
OERB. He has also been a driving force behind our partnership with the Universities.
Linda has 37 years as an NGEAO member, despite often being employed outside
Oklahoma. She founded the informal gathering of women referred to as Gas Hags
(Hard-working Able Gas Staff), and hosts a luncheon for the group during the annual
conference. In 1976, she was one of two women members of the “Natural Gas
Men’s Association of Oklahoma” (NGEAO’s earlier name), and back then was not
allowed on the 14th floor of the Petroleum Club which excluded women on the floor
where the men ate and played cards during lunch time.

Power Plant and Refinery Tours
On November 16 OG&E McClain Generation Plant hosted 40 NGEAO members to a
tour of their 520 MW gas fired generating station in Newcastle, OK just south of
Oklahoma City. The facility was put into service in 2001 by NRG and purchased by
OGE in 2004, which now owns 77% of the output, with OMPA controlling the other
23%. OG&E is the plant operator. It is powered by two combined cycle turbines and
provides electric power to the SPP grid.

On November 23 CVR Energy hosted select members to an exclusive tour of the
115Mbbl/d Coffeyville, KS oil refinery. The refinery is a catalytic cracking/delayed
coking refinery that processes moderately heavy, medium sulfur crude oil from a broad
array of domestic and international sources and predominantly produces clean
transportation products such as gasoline, diesel fuels, and propane. It is located 100
miles from Cushing, OK, a vast supply source, and provides unbranded petroleum
products to customers in the midcontinent states. Lucky for the bus driver they have a
tank truck on refinery property full of gasoline…no kidding, the bus ran dry of petro on
the tour!
