THE OPENING ACT
• No. 11-seed UTEP (12-15) will lock up with host and No. 6 seed UAB (17-12) in the first round of the 2015
Conference USA Women’s Basketball Championships inside Bartow Arena at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday.
The contest will be televised nationally (American Sports Network) with the talent pairing of Leah
Secondo (play-by-play) and Nate Ross (color). Fans may also listen live on 600 ESPN El Paso, KROD-
AM Radio with Steve Kaplowitz (play-by-play) and Traci Miller (color) describing the action.
• The winner will play No. 3-seed Southern Miss (20-9) in the quarterfinals at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday
• The Miners were 4-4 in their final eight tilts of the regular season, an impressive feat considering they
had endured a six-game losing streak which could have broken their spirts. That skid was the longest
since ‘02-03 and just the third occasion under Keitha Adams that they dropped at least six in a row.
• Aer dropping its first two league home games, UAB won the final seven contests at Bartow Arena.
• Blazers were 7-3 overall down the stretch, including three straight wins to gain momentum for tourney.
• UTEP and UAB will be locking up in the C-USA Championships for the third time in the past four years.
The Miners topped the Blazers, 60-49, in a 2012 C-USA semifinal match-up while knocking them o,
61-59, in the quarterfinals of the 2013 C-USA Championships.
• UTEP is 15-21 all time in conference tournament play, including 12-12 under Adams. They were 1-5 in the
situation during Adams’s first five years at the school, with the lone win coming in 2004.
• UTEP has competed in the quarterfinal round of the C-USA Championships for eight straight years. It is
11-7 in that timeframe, including 4-1 when playing in the first round. The Miners earned opening-round
byes in 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2014 (double bye). UTEP lost its opening-round game of the 2006 C-USA
Championships, its first year in the league.
• UTEP won the only tournament crown in program history in 2012 and earned runner-up honors in 2008.
It has advanced to the semifinals in each of the past three years, the longest stretch in school history.
Other semifinal appearances (1993, 1995 & 2004) came when UTEP was a member of the WAC.
• UTEP will be playing with a double-digit seed at the conference tournament for the first time since
2010 and the fourth occasion overall. It is the Miners’ lowest seed in school history, with the previous
situations (2002, 2006 and 2010) coming as a No. 10 seed. They sustained setbacks in 2002 and 2006 but
did pull o the upset in 2010 by knocking o No. 7 seed Rice, 62-61, in the opening round.
• Of the 12 active players on the roster, only five have experience playing at the C-USA Championships.
Cameasha Turner and Irene Gari have the most experience with five games played (2013 & 2014). Turner
averaged 5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists and 24.2 minutes while Gari put up 4.0, 1.2, 1.2 and 14.8
respectively. Stacie Telles played in both C-USA tournament games last year, averaging 8.0 points, 1.0
rebound and 1.5 assist in 17.5 minutes while Sparkle Taylor had respective averages of 2.5, 2.0, 0.0 and
13.0 Anete Kirsteine played two minutes in one game but her only stat was a foul to round out the group.

INSIDE THE SERIES
• UTEP leads the overall series, 7-6, but UAB has a 4-2 advantage when playing in Birmingham.
• The Blazers derailed the Miners, 67-52, at Bartow Arena on Jan. 29, 2015, in the most-recent match-
up.
• UTEP had won its past two trips to Bartow Arena prior to sustaining that setback.
• UAB claimed the first meeting ever between the programs, 61-41, on Dec. 20, 1990.
• The two squads did not square o again until the 2005-06 campaign when UTEP joined C-USA.
AWARDS AVENUE
• UTEP junior Cameasha Turner was voted to the 2015 All-Conference USA second team while also
being tabbed to the All-Defensive squad and Lulu McKinney was recognized on the All-Freshman
team, it was revealed by the league oce on March 8.
• UTEP has now been recognized on the all-conference squad for nine straight years.
• Turner becomes the eighth Miner in program history to earn a spot on both the all-conference and
all-defensive teams in the same season. Kayla Thornton (2013 & 2014), Gloria Brown (2012), Jareica
Hughes (2007 & 2009), Natasha Lacy (2008) achieved the feat from C-USA while Kimya Murray
(2002), Kristi Lain (1999) and Jill Lewis (1997) were so distinguished during UTEP’s time in the
Western Athletic Conference. What sets Turner apart from everyone else except Lacy in that group is
that she also was voted to the league’s All-Academic squad.
• McKinney is the first UTEP player since 2011 (Kelli Willingham) and the eighth overall to be tabbed
to the all-freshman squad. Willingham, Anete Steinberga (2010), Dietra Caldwell (2009), Hughes
and Timika Williams (2007) garnered the spotlight from C-USA while Shalana Taylor (2005) and
Charnee Phelps (2004) did so when the Miners played in the WAC.
GOING BACK IN TIME
(at Rice 79, UTEP 62, 3/7/15)
• UTEP got o to a slow start and could never recover in an eventual 79-62 loss at Rice in the regular-
season finale for both squads in Houston on March 7.
• The Miners simply had no answer for the Owls’ Christal Porter, who made her “Senior Day” one to
remember with 30 points and 19 rebounds.
• Rice held early respective leads of 11-2, 17-7 and 27-14, with Keitha Adams being forced to burn three
timeouts within the first 10 minutes in an aempt to get her squad going. The third time proved to
be the charm with UTEP using a 12-2 run to get within four (29-25) only to have Rice counter with
its own 12-2 run.
• The deficit was 12 (43-31) at the break, and the Miners never got closer than 10 the rest of the way.
• Rice won the rebounding bale (47-31) in addition to shooting a crisp 49.2 (32-of-65) from the floor.
• Freshman Lulu McKinney provided a bright spot by nailing 5-of-8 from the field and her lone free
throw aempt on the way to a team-high 14 points.
• Rudiane Eduardo came o the bench to provide a career-high tying nine points while also grabbing
four rebounds.
• Sparkle Taylor pitched in nine points o the pine as well, which was aided by making all five free
throw aempts. Leading scorer Cameasha Turner had her 13-game double-digit scoring streak
snapped aer being held in check with seven points and five boards.
GETTING TO KNOW UAB
Overall: 17-12 Home: 11-3 Road 5-9 Neutral 1-0
C-USA: 11-7 Home: 7-2 Road 4-5
• Got o to a 4-2 on the year before going 2-3 in the next five contests to wrap non-league play at 6-5.
• Stumbled out of the gates in C-USA action with a 1-3 start and was 3-4 following a 58-46 road setback
at Old Dominion on Jan. 24.
• Beat UTEP, 67-52, on Jan. 29, to ignite a turnaround, with the Blazers winning three straight and five
of the next six.
• Cooled o with back-to-back road losses against WKU (59-51, Feb. 19) and Marshall (71-52, Feb. 21) to
slip to 8-7 in C-USA but recovered to pick up three straight wins down the stretch.
• Finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in C-USA play (11-7) but ended up with the #6 seed as
result of the tiebreaker procedures.
• Known for its defensive prowess which is evidenced by the top scoring defense (57.7) in C-USA and
ranking third in field-goal percentage defense (.376)
• Thrives in other aspects of the game, though, with the Blazers pacing the league in free-throw
percentage (.748) and three-point percentage (.357).
• Led by senior and 2015 C-USA First-Team Honoree Janae Smith, who is one of just three players in
the league to rank in the top seven for both scoring (18.5 ppg-fourth) and rebounding (7.9 rpg-seventh).
• Chelsee Black joins Smith in double figures for scoring (12.3-seventh) but there is a significant dropo
aer that.
Miranda Burroughs provides 7.7 ppg while Kayla Anderson (5.0 ppg) is the only other
individual to be at +5.0 ppg.

UTEP WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
• Smith is a relentless aacker who has both made (120) and aempted (138) more than 100 free throws.
Her charity-stripe percentage of 87.0 paces C-USA while Black is third at 84.6 (77-of-91).
• Burroughs is lights out from distance, nailing a league-leading 42.2 percent (68-of-161) from three-
point range. Black has also shown good touch by hiing 37.6 percent of treys (47-of-125) to place sixth.
• Smith (1.4-second) and Anderson (1.3-third) both swat more than one shot per game.
• Notable alumni include Regina Benjamin (U.S. Surgeon General), Steve Chiotakis (co-host of the
NPR morning report), Deidre Downs (2005 Miss America) & Vonea Flowers (2002 Olympic gold
medalist in bobsled).
TIME OF TRANSITION
• UTEP’s squad is unproven due to natural arition through graduation & extenuating circumstances.
• Of the 12 active players only juniors Irene Gari & Cameasha Turner have multiple leers with UTEP.
• 2014 C-USA Sixth Player of the Year and junior Jenzel Nash is siing out the season (pregnancy).
• Senior Chrishauna Parker remains sidelined due to a concussion. She was limited to 14 minutes in
the season opener and is still under evaluation.
• There are five newcomers and five players in their second year with the program.
• Senior Marissa Rodriguez is in her fourth year, but she has logged 55 minutes in 29 career games.
• UTEP (12-15) has had a rollercoaster year as result, and unless it can make a run to win the 2015
C-USA Championships, it will finish with a losing record for the first time since 2005-06 (12-17).
• The Miners’ scoring margin is -1.0. The last time they were out-scored on the year was 2004-05 (-2.5).
• UTEP’s rebounding margin is -0.5. It hasn’t been out-rebounded in a year since 2009-10 (-2.9).
• The Orange and Blue are shooting 38.2 percent (626-of-1637) from the floor, which would be the
lowest readout from the floor since 2005-06 (37.9, 668-of-1763).
• Including Nash & Parker under the “lost” group, UTEP’s current roster returned very lile back from
a pure numbers standpoint from the ‘13-14 squad (29-8) as noted below.

ALL ABOUT UTEP’S 2014-15 SEASON
Overall: 12-15 Home: 9-6 Road 3-8 Neutral 0-1
C-USA: 7-11 Home: 4-5 Road 3-6
• Jumped out to a 3-2 start on the year before falling in consecutive contests to slip below .500 on the
year. Bounced back with a pair of victories to close out non-conference play with a record of 5-4.
• The momentum carried into C-USA play with UTEP winning two straight and three of the first four
league contests to climb to 8-5 overall. With four of the next six games at home, the Miners looked
poise to make a push for an upper-echelon finish in the league standings.
• It wasn’t to be, though, with the Miners losing six straight for the first time since 2002-03 and just the
third time under head coach Keitha Adams.
• UTEP hadn’t lost four straight league home games since Adams’s first year (0-9, ‘01-02).
• The four consecutive home losses were by a combined 18 points, and UTEP had first-half leads of at
least nine points in three of them. The Miners were up by 15 (29-14, 10:04 1H) against Marshall (lost
76-71, Jan. 24), enjoyed a 10-point cushion (24-14, 3:46 1H) in the match-up with UTSA (lost 55-53, Jan.
17) and a nine-point advantage (16-7, 14:33) vs. Florida Atlantic (lost 68-63, Feb. 5).
• Adams managed to keep the team from completely falling apart despite the six-game skid. UTEP dug
deep to go 4-4 over the final eight contests of the regular season, though it was knocked o at Rice,
79-62, in the regular-season finale on March 7.
• Used 12 dierent starting line-ups in 27 games on the year, with injuries and the inherent inconsistent
play that comes with young teams the driving force behind the constant shuing.
• The quintet of Stacie Telles, Turner, Gari, Sparkle Taylor and Lawna Kennedy has had the most
success with a record of 4-2 while the combination of Telles, Turner, Taylor, Gari and Daeshianna
McCants follows at 3-3. No other starting five has won more than one contest.
• The injury bug hit hard with Chrishauna Parker (26 games), senior Johni Welles (nine games), junior
Anete Kirsteine (three games), Agata Dobrowolska (three games, junior Turner (two game) and
junior Kennedy (one game) all missing action.
• Telles and Turner both have started 25 contests while Gari (23), Taylor(20), Kennedy (14) and
McKinney (11) have each started 10+ games. McCants (seven), Dobrowolska (five), Marta Miscenko
(two), Rudiane Eduardo (one), Parker (one) and Welles (one) also have started.
• Kirsteine (23 games played 10.3 mpg) and Marissa Rodriguez (six games played, 1.5 mpg) are the lone
individuals to have not started at least one game this year from the entire 14-person roster.
• Adams
has spread playing time around. Of the 12 active players (Parker remains sidelined with an
injury and Welles is out indefinitely) 10 are earning double figures in playing time. Only Miscenko (7.2)
and Rodriguez (1.5) fall short of that figure.
• Turner is the lone individual in C-USA to place in the top 10 of the league for three-point percentage
(.392-third), steals per game (2.0-tied seventh) and points per game (15.3-ninth).
• She also pacers the Miners in rebounds per game (6.2) and minutes per game (29.7).
• Turner (15.3 ppg, 6.2 rpg) is on track to become the first Miner guard since Dragana Zoric in 2002-03
(14.3 ppg, 7.7 rpg) to pace the team in both scoring and rebounding.

UTEP WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF WOMEN’S
HOOPS AT UTEP
• The 2014-15 season marks the 40-year
anniversary since the launch of the program,
and needless to say a lot has changed.
Launched for the 1974-75 campaign, the team
was not even under the wing of the athletics
department. It was initially operated by the
intramural division, and a physical education
graduate student Carol Ammerman was
selected as the first coach. Her salary was $250
a month, and she scrambled to assemble both
a team and secure a spot to practice and play
games.
CLIFFSNOTE ON ‘14-15 CAMPAIGN
(UTEP 69, at North Texas 61, 3/5/15)
• The UTEP women’s basketball team used a
barrage of three pointers to topple North Texas,
69-61, inside the Super Pit on March 6. The
Miners connected on 11-of-23 from beyond-
the-arc to derail an inspired Mean Green squad
which was playing its final home game of the
regular season.
• Lulu McKinney (career-high tying 16 points,
five assists and five rebounds), Stacie Telles
(career-high tying 16 points), Cameasha
Turner (15 points, eight rebounds) and Lawna
Kennedy (six points, career-high 13 rebounds)
helped lead the charge for the Orange and Blue.
• It was a wild back-and forth game which
featured 10 ties and 19 lead changes, as both
sides traded blows. North Texas looked to be
in decent shape, using a 15-8 run to grab a 55-
52 advantage with five minutes to play. UTEP
would rally, though, with McKinney picking
the pocket of Kasiney Williams before soaring
in for the hoop and some harm to start the
comeback.
• Turner then nailed a triple to propel UTEP
ahead, 58-55, with 3:09 to play before a Telles
trey, which was set up by three straight passes,
completed the 9-0 game-changing run. North
Texas halted the run with a lay-up to cut the
deficit down to four (61-57) but the Miners
would close out the game in style. UTEP nailed
six all six free throws, to go along with a fast-
break lay-up from Telles, to cruise to the eight-
point win.
(Southern Miss 66, at UTEP 60, 3/1/15)
• Junior Cameasha Turner recorded her third
double-double (18 points, career-high 13
rebounds) on the year while also dishing out a
personal-best six assists but visiting Southern
Miss spoiled “Senior Day” by handing UTEP a
66-60 setback inside the Don Haskins Center
on March 1.
• The Miners made only 10 turnovers against
a high-pressure Lady Eagles’ defense while
also playing unselfishly but they couldn’t get
enough shots to go down. UTEP finished at
28.8 percent (19-of-66) from the floor, which
was hindered by making nine of a school-
recording seing 34 three-point aempts for a
readout of 26.5 percent from beyond-the-arc.
• USM nailed 43.9 percent (25-of-57) of its
aempts and also enjoyed an advantage on
the glass (48-39), with Tamara Jones seing
the tone for the visitors with 25 points and
seven rebounds. In fact it was a triple by Jones
with 9:06 to play that aorded USM its largest
advantage (54-45) of the contest.
• The Miners refused to quit, though, whiling
the deficit down to just two on a pair of
occasions, including 62-60 with 1:01 to play
following a triple by Anete Kirsteine.
• Much to the disdain of the 3,377 Orange and
Blue faithful, USM was able to get stops when
it maered most to escape town with the win.
• Turner’s contested lay-up rimmed out with
41 seconds to play. Another three-point try by
Kirsteine, which would have tied the tilt, was
just a bit short with 25 seconds le. Jones finally
sealed UTEP’s fate with an old-fashioned
three-point play with 14 ticks on the clock.
• It was a biersweet moment for the Miners,
who honored the outgoing senior class of Irene
Gari, Marissa Rodriguez and Stacie Telles in a
pre-game ceremony that included a video and
on-court recognition.
(at UTEP 88, Louisiana Tech 75, 2/21/15)
• Sparkle Taylor (23 points) and Cameasha
Turner (20 points) teamed up to help power the
UTEP women’s basketball team to a convincing
come-from-behind 88-75 victory against
Louisiana Tech inside the Don Haskins Center
Friday aernoon.
• It was a tale of two halves, with the Miners
outscoring the Lady Techsters 50—32 over the
final 20 minutes on the way to a season-high
88 points. The visitors carried a 43-38 lead
into the locker room but the Orange and Blue
stunned them with a game-changing 17-0 run
over the first four minutes of the second stanza.
Turner and Taylor combined for nine of those
points.
• Louisiana Tech called a pair of timeouts during
the sequence, but both proved to be ineective.
It did manage to while the deficit down to five
(56-51) with 13:38 to play but UTEP peeled o
13 straight points over the next four-and-a half
minutes to go up by 18 (69-51, 8:45 to play), and
Louisiana Tech never got within single digits
the rest of the way out.
• The Miners connected on 24-of-50 (48.0
percent) during the game, including 13-of-
24 (54.2) during the dominating second half.
Louisiana Tech, which nailed 14-of-27 (51.9
percent) from the floor during an impressive
first half, but cooled down and hit only 10-of-
38 (26.3 percent) over the final 20 minutes.
• There were plenty of whistles, with 29 fouls on
LA Tech and 25 on the Miners, and both teams
spent plenty of time at the charity stripe. The
Miners drilled 33 free throws-the fih most
in program history- on 40 aempts for a solid
82.5 percent. The Lady Techsters made 22-of-
33 charity-stripe tosses.
• Another factor was rebounding, with UTEP
crushing LA Tech, 49-28, on the boards.
That dominant performance helped oset
the Miners’ lone shortcoming in the contest,
which was ball security. The Orange and Blue
commied 25 turnovers that led to 23 points for
the visitors but they were able to overcome that
due to their controlling every other component
of the contest.
(at UTSA 72, UTEP 59, 2/21/15)
• Cameasha Turner tallied 19 points while
Stacie Telles also reached double figures (14
points) but UTEP was dealt a 72-59 defeat at
UTSA on Feb. 21.
• UTEP finished at 32 percent (19-of-60) from the
floor, in addition to having an o shooting day
at the free-throw line (15-of-26, 57.7 percent).
UTSA shared in the Miners’ woes at the charity
stripe, finishing at a paltry 56.3 percent (18-of-
32) but it nailed a solid 46.3 percent (25-of-54)
of its tries from the field.
• Another factor was rebounding, with the
Roadrunners controlling the glass to the
tune of 50-33. UTSA had 18 oensive boards,
compared to 13 by the Miners, which resulted
in a 15-7 advantage in second-chance points.
• Mannasha Bell (15 points, 11 rebounds) and
Tesha Smith (17 points, 14 rebounds) each
recorded double-doubles to set the tone for the
Roadrunners, who also had a 40-22 advantage
in points in the paint.
• UTEP did a wonderful job in ball security with
12 turnovers-while forcing 20, which led to a
23-12 cushion for points o giveaways.
• Sparkle Taylor pitched in nine points while
Lulu McKinney need eight and Irene Gari
finished with seven. Daeshianna McCants
(two points) was the only other player to score
in the game, though, for the Orange and Blue.
(at Old Dominion 79, UTEP 50, 2/14/15)
• Sparkle Taylor tallied 17 points, Cameasha
Turner notched 11 and Lulu McKinney
collected 10 but UTEP’s two-game winning
streak was snapped in a 79-50 setback at Old
Dominion on Feb. 14.
• The Miners dug themselves a large hole heading
into halime (40-17), and were unable to truly
recover. UTEP peeled o eight straight points
to start the second half but the homestanding
Lady Monarchs regrouped and never let the
Miners truly threaten.
• Aside from the three players in double figures,
UTEP was unable to find consistent oense.
Daeshianna McCants pitched in five points
but no one else had more than three.
(UTEP 75, at Charloe 72, 2/12/15)
• Junior Cameasha Turner tallied 26 points for
the second straight contest to help li the UTEP
women’s basketball team to an emotional 75-72
win at Charloe on Feb. 13. The Miners (10-11,
5-7 C-USA) trailed by as many as 12 points in
the contest but never wavered on the way to
rallying past the homestanding 49ers (9-14, 5-6
C-USA) to post their second straight victory.
• Stacie Telles joined Turner in double figures
with 13 points, including a circus-like floater
to account for the game’s ninth and final lead
change with 2:03 to play. Aer a missed jumper
by Charloe, Turner cruised to the hole for a
lay-up to make it 73-70 with 1:19 le. Alexis
Alexander, who led a trio of 49ers in double
figures with 17 points, converted on her own
lay-up with 56 seconds remaining.
• UTEP was unable to put points on the board
the next time down the court but it guarded
closely and forced a turnover with four seconds
le. Turner was fouled on the inbounds, and
she made both tosses at the charity stripe to
give the visitors a 75-72 lead.
• UTEP freshman Lulu McKinney sealed the
win by coming up with a steal on the ensuing
possession, and dribbled out the final three
seconds before the horn sounded.
• The Miners nailed 43.1 percent (26-of-60) of
their shots to improve to 9-1 this year when
eclipsing 40 percent. The Miners also enjoyed
an 18-11 advantage on fastbreak points and won
the points in the paint, 34-32, despite being
outsized. Those eorts helped compensate for
Charloe claiming the rebounding bale (40-
36) and shooting a solid 40.4 percent (23-of-57)
from the floor.
(at UTEP 72, FIU 56, 2/7/15)
• Junior Cameasha Turner poured in 26 points
(one shy of her career high) to help the UTEP
women’s basketball team cruise past FIU, 72-
56, inside the Don Haskins Center on Feb. 9.
Turner set the tone early, with eight points
during a 14-4 Miners’ run to put Panthers in
a double-digit hole just six minutes into the
contest.
• UTEP extended its margin to 14 (39-24) at the
break, and was never truly threatened in the
second half. The cushion swelled to as many as
27 (61-34, 8:23). To its credit FIU continued to
play hard down the stretch, closing the game
on an 8-0 run, but it was far too lile too late.
8
UTEP WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
• The Miners shot 40.0%, (28-of-70) from the
floor, which was only slightly beer than the
eort by the Panthers’ readout of 37.8% (21-of-
56) but they dominated in every other aspect
of the contest to post the convincing victory.
UTEP forced 25 turnovers, leading to 25 points,
which was aided by a season-high 17 steals.
• The Orange and Blue tallied 48 points in the
paint while also adding 15 free throws on 20
aempts. .
• The Miners piled up a campaign-best 26 fast
break points, nearly doubling the prior high
(14) which came against Division II foe Eastern
New Mexico on Dec. 2.
• Senior Stacie Telles had an excellent all-
around game with five points, six rebounds, a
career-high tying eight assists and three steals
in 27 minutes of action.
• Junior Rudiane Eduardo equaled her career
high with nine points.
• Freshman Daeshianna McCants did well to
front the post, resulting in a career-high four
steals.
(Florida Atlantic 68, UTEP 63, 2/5/15)
• Irene Gari posted her second double-double
(13 points, career-high tying 12 rebounds) this
year while Sparkle Taylor added 18 points
but visiting Florida Atlantic was able to derail
UTEP, 68-63, at the Don Haskins Center on
Feb. 5.
• The Miners led for almost half of the contest,
including a nine-point cushion (13-4, 15:58)
early on, only to have the Owls use torrid
shooting to stake the come-from-behind
triumph.
• Florida Atlantic connected on 53.3 percent (24-
of-45) from the floor, including a staunch 56.3
percent (9-of-16) from three-point range.
• The Miners shared the ball well with 16 assists
on 25 field goals made but couldn’t get a high
enough percentage of their tries to drop. UTEP
connected on 36.2 percent (25-of-69), including
21.7 percent (5-of-23) from beyond-the-arc,
while also finishing at 47.1 percent (8-of-17)
from the charity stripe.
• The Orange and Blue were nearly able to
overcome the o shooting night through sheer
hustle and grit. UTEP raced down 22 oensive
boards, while yielding just five to FAU, which
resulted in an 18-8 advantage in second-
chance points. The Miners also converted 16
turnovers by the visitors into 19 points but that
all proved to be a moot point.
(at Middle Tennessee 74, UTEP 53, 1/31/15)
• Sparkle Taylor (14 points, 10 rebounds),
Daeshianna McCants (career-high 13 points)
and Irene Gari (12 points) hit double figures in
scoring but homestanding Middle Tennessee
simply had too much firepower in handing
UTEP a 74-53 setback at the Murphy Center
on Jan. 31.
• The Miners baled hard and were down by
just eight (36-28) with 17:30 to play in the game
only to have the Blue Raiders ride the play of
Cheyenne Parker and Olivia Jones to pull away
aer the break. Parker recorded the school’s
first triple-double (18 points, 17 rebounds and
11 blocks) while Jones poured in a game-high
31 points to go along with five boards and four
steals.
• UTEP was held to 31.9 percent (22-of-69) from
the floor while Middle Tennessee nailed 44.4
percent (28-of-63) of its tries. The Orange
and Blue’s overall shooting percentage was
hindered by a poor start to the contest (2-of-18)
over the first 13 minutes before going 20-of-51
(.392) the rest of the way out.
• The Miners gave great eort, with a season-
high 24 oensive rebounds nearly allowing
them to win the overall rebounding bale (44-
43). UTEP also took care of the ball well (15
turnovers) but it couldn’t get enough shots to
drop.
• It marked Taylor’s second-career double-
double while Gari had seven boards. Freshman
Lulu McKinney did a nice job of geing UTEP
into its oense, dishing out six assists (one shy
of her career high) while adding five points.
Fellow classmate Marta Miscenko pitched in
four points (2-of-3 FG).
• UTEP was once again without the services
of leading scorer and rebounder Cameasha
Turner, who remains sidelined aer sustaining
an injury against Marshall on Jan. 24.
(at UAB 67, UTEP 52, 1/29/15)
• A short-handed UTEP squad gave a good eort
but couldn’t get enough shots to drop in an 67-
52 loss at UAB on Jan. 29.
• The Miners nailed 44% (11-of-25) from the floor
in the opening half, which limited the Blazers’
advantage to three (32-29) entering the locker
room. The game remained within striking
distance with 12 minutes to play, with UTEP
down by five (43-38) aer a pair of Stacie
Telles free throws.
• Much to the chagrin of some vocal Orange
and Blue faithful in aendance inside Bartow
Arena, the Miners endured a tough sequence
by going more than the next 10 minutes
without a field goal from the floor. The Blazers
capitalized to the tune of a 20-4 run essentially
put the game away.
• Irene Gari converted on a drive lay-up,
followed by a jumper by Johni Welles and a
triple by Anete Kirsteine to spark a 7-0 surge
but the damage had been done.
• UTEP finished at 35.8 percent (19-of-53) form
the floor, hurt by going 8-of-28 in the second
half.
• UAB converted on 44.2 (23-of-52) of its shots
in addition to also winning the boards, 38-28.
• Lawna Kennedy and Telles each pitched in
eight points to pace the Miners, who were
playing without the services of leading scorer
and rebounder Cameasha Turner (14.2 ppg, 6.2
rpg).
(Marshall 76, at UTEP 71, 1/22/15)
• Junior Cameasha Turner scored 18 points and
grabbed seven boards while freshman Lulu
McKinney equaled her career high with 16
points but visiting Marshall outlasted UTEP,
76-71, on Jan. 24.
• The Miners played well in all facets of the
contest to grab a 41-33 halime lead only to
have the Thundering Herd rally for their first
win in five tries to the Sun City. Marshall,
which trailed by as many as 15 (29-14, 10:04 first
half) at one point, still found itself down five
(45-40) with 17:09 remaining in regulation.
• The Miners, though, went cold from the field
by misfiring on six straight shots while also
commiing five turnovers in the next five
minutes, and the Thundering Herd capitalized.
They scored 14 straight points to stake a 54-45
advantage with 12:23 le to play. UTEP kept its
composure and began to slowly chip away at
the deficit. Aer the two sides traded blows for
a couple of possessions, the Miners eventually
put together an 11-2 run to pull back in front,
62-61, with 3:50 to play.
• It was a back-and-forth bale the rest of the
way, and UTEP led by two (71-69) with 1:16 le
following a pair of Stacie Telles free throws.
Much to the chagrin of the Orange and Blue
faithful, Marshall had an answer. It scored the
final seven points of the contest, including a
decisive three by Norrisha Victrum with 58
seconds le, on the way to stunning the home
side.
(#24 Western Kentucky 80, at UTEP 76 1/22/15)
• Cameasha Turner (18 points), Lulu McKinney
(career-high 16 points) and Anete Kirsteine
(career-high tying 15 points) enjoyed big
scoring nights but #24 Western Kentucky had
just enough in its tanks to hold o UTEP, 80-
74, at the Don Haskins Center on Jan. 23.
• It was a valiant eort by the Miners (8-7, 3-3
C-USA) who shot a beer percentage (39.7 to
38.3) than the Lady Toppers (17-2, 6-0 C-USA)
in addition to winning the rebounding bale
(41-35) but fell short due to some deficiencies in
other aspects of the contest.
• A combination of the Lady Toppers’ press, in
addition to some careless passes, resulted in
the Orange and Blue commiing a season-high
24 turnovers. WKU also overwhelmed UTEP
down low, with 30 points in the paint, and at
the free-throw line. The visitors nailed 30-of-
36 at the charity stripe compared to the Orange
and Blue’s eort of 17-of-23.
• UTEP nearly compensated for that by coming
alive from distance. It nailed a season-high
tying 11 three pointers, with Kirsteine coming
o the bench to key the charge. She drilled five
treys on the way to the aforementioned career-
high equaling 15 points.
• The Miners slipped to 1-21 all time against
nationally-ranked teams by the Associated
Press, including 1-6 in El Paso. Additionally,
UTEP is now 0-12 in the situation under Keitha
Adams.
(UTSA 55, at UTEP 53 1/17/15)
• In a back-and-forth game that featured nine
ties and 19 lead changes, visiting UTSA made
just enough plays down the stretch to hand
UTEP a 55-53 defeat at the Don Haskins
Center on Jan. 17.
• Cameasha Turner, who paced the Miners
with 13 points, made a driving lay-up, to put
her squad up 53-52 with 1:06 to play. UTEP
then forced turnover & looked poise to seal
the victory only to have the Roadrunners’
Mannasha Bell block Turner’s insurance lay-
up with 32 seconds remaining.
• UTSA, which outrebounded UTEP, 42-39,
grabbed the ball and called timeout.
• Aer misfiring twice, but grabbing oensive
rebounds each time, UTSA pulled ahead with a
two-footer from Bell to grab a 54-53 advantage
with 13 seconds le in regulation.
• The Miners called timeout to set up a play for
Turner, but she lost her footing on her drive.
• Aer UTSA split two free throws, the Miners
used a long pass to get the ball into freshman
Lulu McKinney but her desperation three
pointer at the buzzer fell short of the rim as
time expired.
• Sophomore Sparkle Taylor joined Turner in
double figures with 10 points while junior Irene
Gari flirted with a double-double (nine points,
career-high 12 rebounds).
• UTEP shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57), compared
to 32.8 percent (19-of-58) by UTSA, and also
had just 12 turnovers but fouls and free throws
loomed large. UTEP was whistled for 23
infractions, compared to 14 by UTSA, which led
to a big discrepancy at the charity stripe. The
Roadrunners were 13-of-22 at the free-throw
line while the Miners finished 8-of-10.
9
UTEP WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
• Interestingly enough, UTEP had more points
in the paint (32-20) and aempted only six
three pointers to the Roadrunners’ 15 tries
from distance. UTSA was aggressive in its own
way, though, particularly on the oensive glass
with the aforementioned 15 oensive boards to
help it stake an overall 42-39 advantage in the
category.
(UTEP 71, at Southern Miss 59 1/10/15)
• Junior Cameasha Turner posted her second
double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) of the
season and an inspired UTEP team knocked
o Southern Miss, 71-59, inside Reed Green
Coliseum on Jan. 14. The victory was dedicated
to UTEP head coach Keitha Adams, who has
been resting at home while recovering from
emergency oral surgery on Jan. 5.
• The Miners wrapped a 33-12 run around half-
time to take control of the contest against the
Lady Eagles on the way to securing their first
road win on the campaign. The sequence start-
ed when USM’s leading scorer and rebounder
Tamara Jones picked up her second foul with
12 minutes to play in the opening half, and her
squad leading 12-8. To its credit UTEP took ad-
vantage of the situation, closing the half on a
23-12 surge to carry a 31-24 cushion into the
locker room.
• The Orange and Blue kept the momentum
to start the second stanza, tallying the first
10 points on the way to the aforementioned
17-point advantage. The Lady Eagles didn’t go
down without a fight, whiling the deficit to
four on a couple of occasions, but UTEP played
with poise and got it done.
• USM tried to secure a quick steal before im-
mediately fouling in the final two-and-a half
minutes of the contest but the Miners foiled
the strategy by draining 10-of-12 at the charity
stripe.
• Overall it finished at a crisp 70.8% (17-of-24)
while also connecting on 41.1% (23-of-56) from
the floor.
• UTEP outrebounded USM, 42-31, which led to
an 18-8 advantage for second-chance points.
• Junior Irene Gari, who joined Turner in double
figures with 10 points, also equaled her career
high for oensive rebounds at four.
(at Louisiana Tech 90, UTEP 72, 1/8/15)
• UTEP dug itself a big first-half hole and could
never recover in an eventual 90-72 loss at Loui-
siana Tech on Jan. 8. Sparkle Taylor (15 points),
Cameasha Turner (14 points), Lawna Kennedy
(11 points) and Lulu McKinney (10 points) all
reached double figures for the Miners, who had
their four-game winning streak snapped.
• The Lady Techsters rode the hot hand of Ke-
lia Shelton, who had 25 of her game-high 28
points, in the opening period to stake a 50-28
advantage heading into the locker room. The
Miners refused to quit in the second stanza,
even with the deficit ballooning to 33 (83-50)
with 6:44 to play. UTEP closed the game on
a 22-7 run, including 12 straight to force a LA
Tech timeout, but it was too lile too late.
• The Miners (29-of-65, 44.6 percent) and Lady
Techsters (31-of-69, 44.9 percent) shot a nearly
identical percentage from the floor but LA Tech
controlled in other areas. It won the rebound-
ing bale, 49-37, aided by 19 oensive boards,
to enjoy a 19-5 advantage in second-chance
points. LA Tech forced 18 turnovers while com-
miing only 12, resulting in a 15-10 advantage
in points o giveaways.
• Fouls and free throws were also a factor, partic-
ularly in the opening half. UTEP was whistled
for 17 of its 25 infractions in the opening pe-
riod, and Louisiana Tech took advantage to the
tune of 18-of-22 from the charity stripe.
• Overall the Lady Techsters connected on 21-of-
31 (67.7 percent) of their free-throw aempts. It
was a dierent story for UTEP, which had as
many free throw aempts (2-of-2) as fouls (two)
by LA Tech in the first half. There were six in-
fractions on Louisiana Tech aer the break but
the Miners didn’t take capitalize by finishing
6-of-11 from the line in the period.
(at UTEP 54, Rice 51, 1/4/15)
• Junior Irene Gari registered her first career
double-double (15 points, 11 rebounds), and
UTEP held on for a hard-fought 54-51 win
against Rice on Jan. 4.
• The game, which featured five ties and lead
changes, was knoed at 49 with 2:07 to play
before the Miners ripped o five straight points
to go up, 54-49, with 31 seconds remaining in
regulation.
• The Owls got a bit closer aer Maya Hawkins,
who finished with a game-high 23 points, made
two free throws. Aer a wild sequence with
turnovers by each side, it was Rice ball with 11
seconds le. The Owls got two chances to tie it
down the stretch up but the Miners got it done
on defense.
• Senior Stacie Telles came up with her first
career block on a three-point aempt by
Hawkins with six seconds to play. The loose
ball bounced out of bounds to stay with Rice,
but the visitors were unable to capitalize aer
Christal Porter misfired on a triple with one
second le on the clock.
• UTEP limited Rice to 33.3 percent (19-of-57)
from the floor while also forcing 18 turnovers.
The Miners didn’t shoot much beer (36.7
percent, 22-of-60) but they did well to generate
high-probability shots. UTEP outscored the
Owls in the paint, 32-12.
(at UTEP 60, North Texas 58, 1/2/15)
• Sparkle Taylor (17 points) and Cameasha
Turner (13 points) helped UTEP rally past
North Texas, 60-58, in the C-USA opener for
both squads on Jan. 2
• The Miners trailed the Mean Green by 11 (38-
27) with 18:32 to play but they were far from
done. UTEP unleashed a 22-5 run over the
next 11 minutes, with Taylor (nine points) and
Turner (five points) providing plenty of the
firepower in the game-changing sequence.
North Texas managed to pull back to even (53-
53) with 4:28 le in regulation but back-to-back
buckets from Turner and a free throw by Taylor
reinstated the lead for good.
• UNT didn’t go down without a fight, and had
the ball trailing by three with 20 seconds to
play. Two-time reigning C-USA freshman Lulu
McKinney picked the pocket of Terra Ellison
and hit a free throw to put the Miners up four
(59-55) with 17 seconds le.
• The Mean Green hit a three to cut the deficit
to one in the waning seconds and proceeded
to foul Stacie Telles with 0.6 seconds to play.
The senior calmly hit the first free throw before
intentionally missing the second one, and UNT
could only grab the rebound as time expired.
• UTEP hit 46.3 percent (25-of-54) of their shots,
helped by nailing 53.6 (15-of-28) in the second
half.
• The Miners won the rebounding bale (36-
30), and had 17-8 advantage in second-chance

• Rudiane Eduardo came o the bench to
provide a career-best nine points.
(at UTEP 63, Alcorn State 53, 12/28/14)
• Cameasha Turner scored 13 points to lead
a trio of players in double figures, and UTEP
held o upset-minded Alcorn State, 63-53,
12/28/14)
• There were eight ties and 12 lead changes,
but UTEP emerged on top thanks to a 9-0
run midway through the second stanza that
changed the momentum of the game. The surge
put the Miners up, 43-37, with 8:31 to play, and
they never relinquished the advantage.
• With the shooting percentages (UTEP 40.4,
21-of-52 & Alcorn State 40.0, 20-of-50) nearly
identical, free-throw shooting and turnovers
proved to be important factors. The Miners
had the upper hand in each area, drilling 78.3
percent (18-of-23) from the charity stripe while
also forcing Alcorn State into 23 turnovers. The
visitors hit just 69.2 (9-of-13) at the line and
also was whistled for 25 fouls in the contest.
• Sophomore Sparkle Taylor and freshman Lulu
McKinney each scored 11 points while senior
Stacie Telles and junior Lawna Kennedy
pitched in eight apiece for the well-rounded
Miner aack.
• McKinney also matched her career high with
seven assists while making just two turnovers.
(at UTEP 86, Prairie View 48 12/20/14)
• UTEP played with purpose and passion on the
way to knocking o Prairie View A&M, 86-48,
at the Don Haskins Center on Dec. 20.
• The Miners bolted out to a 33-point halime
lead against the Lady Panthers which equaled
the second biggest vs. a Division I opponent
and was the fih largest overall regardless of
division in program history.
• UTEP set season highs for points (86),
assists (22) and three-pointers made (11) and
percentage (.458). The 11 makes from distance
tie as the eighth most in a game at the school.
• Overall the Orange and Blue posted their
second-best field goal percentage (28-of-61,
459), on the season, aided by a readout of .515
(17-of-33) in the aforementioned dominant half.
• At the other end of the court the Lady Panthers,
who were coming o a 17-point road win, were
limited to 28.3 percent (15-of-53), including
only 19.2 percent (5-of-26) in the dominant
first half. It marked the second-best field-
goal percentage defense on the campaign for
the Orange and Blue, who improved to 80-12
under head coach Keitha Adams when the
opposition finishes with more turnovers (17)
than field goals made (15). The 17 giveaways
led to 28 UTEP points, including 21 during the
initial stanza.
• Freshman Lulu McKinney (14), junior Lawna
Kennedy (12) and freshman Daeshianna
McCants (11) all set career highs for scoring
while Cameasha Turner (13) and Stacie Telles

• UTEP won the boards, 40-38, with Telles
(career-best eight), Gari (seven) and Sparkle
Taylor (seven) also contributed to the cause.

• UTEP sustained a 72-57 loss to I-25 rival New
Mexico inside WisePies Arena, AKA The Pit on
Dec. 14. The Miners won the rebounding bale
(34-31) but it wasn’t enough to compensate for
an o shooting day (35.4 percent on 17-of-48)
and turnover problems (19 giveaways).
• The Lobos drilled 47.3 percent (26-of-55) from
the floor while converting the UTEP giveaways
into 17 points.
• Sophomore Sparkle Taylor posted 14 points
and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the eorts
for the Miners, who have dropped consecutive
non-conference contests for the first time
in nearly three years. Anete Kirsteine also

while Irene Gari, Lulu McKinney, Stacie
Telles and Cameasha Turner all finished with
six points.
• Both teams were eective down low, with

• Junior Irene Gari scored a career-high 25 points

the Don Haskins Center on Dec. 6.
• The Huskies rode the play of post Shanice
Steenholdt (27 points, 16 rebounds), who helped
her squad outscore the Miners (3-3) 44-24 in
points in the paint and enjoy an advantage on
the glass (45-36).
• HBU shot 55.8 percent (29-of-52) while UTEP
finished at 36.8 percent (25-of-68) from the
floor, which was hindered by an eort of 25
percent (6-of-24) from beyond-the-arc. Free
throws were also a factor, with HBU making 73
percent (27-of-37) compared to UTEP’s readout
of 61.8 percent (21-of-34).
• The Miners nearly compensated for those
discrepancies by forcing 24 turnovers, which
led to 17 points, and also doing a good job of
taking care of the ball (13 giveaways).
at UTEP 84, Eastern New Mexico 49, 12/2/14
• Sophomore Sparkle Taylor posted her first
career double-double (25 points, 10 rebounds,
both career highs) while junior Cameasha
Turner achieved the feat (15 points, 11 rebounds)
for the second time in a UTEP uniform to help
the Miners roll over Eastern New Mexico, 84-
49, at home on Dec. 2.
• The visiting Division II Zias jumped out to
a 4-0 lead as result of a sluggish UTEP start
before it began to wake up with a 10-2 push to
stake a four-point edge (10-6) with 13:35 to play
in the half.
• The Orange and Blue then delivered the
knockout blow in the form 24-2 run, which
included 14 straight at one point. The margin
was 17 at the break (36-19), and ENMU never
threatened.
• Freshman Marta Miscenko topped her

career-best 12 points.
• Fellow classmate Lulu McKinney added eight
in a game-high 30 minutes.
• UTEP set season bests for field-goal percentage
(46.6) and field-goal percentage defense (27.9)
in addition to dominating on the glass (57-29).
• Freshman Daeshianna McCants (nine
rebounds) and junior Rudiane Eduardo (seven
rebounds) and Miscenko (five rebounds) all
established career highs.
• The Miners pounded the visitors down low,
piling up a whopping 62 points in the paint
• Enjoyed a 19-9 cushion in points o turnovers
and had 14 of the game’s 16 fast-break points.
vs. Kansas State 72, UTEP 43 (11/25/14)
• Senior Johni Welles tallied a career-best 13
points while sophomore Sparkle Taylor also
reached double figures (11 points) but the UTEP
basketball team was dealt a 72-43 defeat by Big
12 member Kansas State in what proved to be its
only contest at the 2014 Hardwood Tournament
of Hope in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The final
two days of action at the event were cancelled.
• The Miners dug themselves a 28-point halime
deficit (43-15) before playing with much beer
energy and eort in the second stanza against
the Wildcats but it proved to be a moot point.
• UTEP was plagued by an o shooting night,
finishing at 26.9 percent (18-of-67) from the
floor. KSU seemingly couldn’t miss, connecting
on 50.0 percent (25-of-50) of its shots, aided by
a readout of 57.1 percent (16-of-28) in the initial
stanza.
• The Miners did a good job with possession,
commiing just 13 turnovers while forcing 20
by KSU.
• Junior Cameasha Turner scored seven points
and recorded five rebounds to buoy Welles and
Taylor.
• Taylor and junior Lawna Kennedy each
finished with seven boards to share the team
lead.
at UTEP 82, Northern Arizona 58 (11/19/14)
• Sophomore Sparkle Taylor exploded for a
career-high 19 points, Stacie Telles added 10
and UTEP defended with a vigor on the way to
downing Northern Arizona, 82-58, at the Don
Haskins Center on Nov. 19.
• The Miners bolted out to a 17-4 lead, were up,
46-24, at the half and the Lumberjacks never
got closer than 20 the rest of the way out in
what served as the 500th victory in program
history.
• UTEP nailed 43.3 percent (29-of-67) of its
shots, held NAU to 34.0 percent (18-of-53), in
addition to winning the rebounding bale, 48-
38.
• The Miners, who led for 39:29 of the 40:00
minutes of action, also forced 18 turnovers that
resulted in 28 points.

ecient 10 minutes of action.
at SMU 63, UTEP 59 (11/16/14)
• Junior Cameasha Turner eclipsed 20 points for
the second straight game but an o shooting
night and a big discrepancy on the boards
loomed large in a 63-59 setback at SMU on
Nov. 16.
• UTEP made nine threes but they came on a
school-record tying 32 aempts.
• The Miners, who shot 34.8 percent (23-of-66)
from the floor and were outrebounded 51-32,
nearly compensated for that by forcing the
Mustangs into 20 turnovers. The last of those
giveaways came with 17 seconds to play to give
UTEP the ball trailing by two (61-59).
• It was not to be, though, as freshman Lulu
McKinney was trapped and ended up turning
the ball over as time ticked down. The Miners
fouled immediately but SMU’s Kiara Perry sank
both free throws to ocially seal UTEP’s fate.
SMU finished the game 14-of-18 (77.8 percent)
at the charity stripe while also enjoying an
eort of 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the floor.

Mexico State in the FirstLight Federal Credit Union
“Bale of I-10” at the Don Haskins Center on Nov.
14.
• Turner, whose previous best was 14 on two occasions,
was instrumental throughout the tilt for the Miners
She scored 17 of her 27 aer the break, including
seven points during a game-altering 10-0 run to turn
a 50-48 Aggie lead into a 58-50 advantage for the

with a boisterous crowd of 4,500 thundering as
UTEP closed out the contest in style.
• Senior Stacie Telles (13 points) and freshman Lulu
McKinney (12 points) joined Turner in double figures
