Finding the right guitar
If you’re reading this, chances are good you’re looking
for an electric guitar or bass. And if that’s what you’re
looking for, you’ve picked an excellent place to find one.
Yamaha offers a wide selection of guitars and basses
that reflects the broad diversity found in today’s music
as well as the rich diversity found in our roster of
artists—studio players, virtuoso technicians, jazzers,
rockers, country, blues, heavy metal, R&B, and pop.
Some of our artists are here because of the connection
they felt the first time they played a Yamaha. The feel,
the way it plays, everything is just “right”. Others are
here because they found people in our design and
artist centers who listened to and understood their
thoughts and ideas, then turned them into reality by
crafting a custom instrument meeting their exact
needs. What they all found however, was an instrument
that feels and plays the way they want it to—their
perfect guitar.
Finding the right instrument is a very personal thing.
Individual needs vary so deciding what’s right for you
is something you’ll have to explore on your own. But
given all the players that have found their perfect
guitar here at Yamaha, we’re sure you’ll find yours too.

The Secret of A.I.R. Technology – RGXA2
Lightweight material is sandwiched between harder, heavier wood on both the front and back surfaces of the
guitar’s body. Special ‘sound tubes’ pass through the body so that string vibrations normally resonating only the
guitar’s top are transmitted to the whole body. By exciting the entire body structure and shaping the tone with the
hard top and back, A.I.R. construction creates a full, powerful tone with distinctive presence and body that is
both totally usable and completely unique. Who said beauty was only skin deep?
Initial Response Acceleration – SG Series
An instrument acquires mature tone and playability only after years of playing, over which
stresses are gradually released between the instrument’s finish, parts, body, neck, fingerboard,
nut, bridge, etc. Investigation into
this process led to the develop-
ment of Initial Response
Acceleration, a process exclusive
to Yamaha that accelerates the
maturing process, delivering
instruments that feel and play
right out of the box, as if they’ve
been played for years. They offer
better response, greater sustain,
and require less time to fully
mature.

We’ve been producing guitars for 40 years now, and during this time we’ve come to meet and build strong relationships with a great many artists. They’ve been a great inspiration
and provided us with ideas that we have turned into to reality.
What defines a great sounding guitar varies widely among players, and turning their ideas related to sound into reality requires a high level of experience, technology, and
expertise. A century of crafting Yamaha pianos and our extensive experience in crafting everything from acoustic guitars and drums to orchestral and electronic instruments has
provided us with the required experience, technologies, expertise and most importantly, a knowledge of sound that is second to none.
It’s our ability to blend the artist’s sensitivities with technology that place Yamaha guitars in a class of their own.

Bridges & Tailpieces
While maintaining accurate pitch is a must in any performance situation, there
are very few instruments that can actually achieve this level of performance.
Yamaha has developed a range of original bridge and tailpiece systems that
serve to anchor and support the strings plus provide precise and stable tuning
that stands ahead of the rest.
Bridge and tailpiece systems play other important roles. In order to deliver
optimum sound quality, it is important that they fully transmit string vibration to
the body. They must also provide accurate arming in order to meet individual
playing styles.
Pursuing better sound and performance is the reason we take the time and effort
to develop our own original hardware.

High quality woods such as alder, mahogany, or ash are used the bodies of 60 out
of the 68 electric guitars and basses Yamaha offers. Expertise acquired from a
century of crafting Yamaha pianos plus our extensive experience in crafting
acoustic guitars, drums, and violins has
provided us with an intimate knowledge of
various woods. It has always been our
belief that quality materials create quality
instruments and this fundamental
principle will never change.

The conventional wisdom in building electric guitars has long been that the more uniform and heavy the material,
the better the sound. But not any more. Yamaha has shattered this concept with an advanced technology called
Alternative Internal Resonance, or A.I.R. for short (patent pending). This revolutionary design approach means that
lightweight materials can at last deliver equivalent or superior tonal characteristics compared to traditional
materials. The result? A smarter and lighter model with all of the sound quality you expect from a Yamaha.

Combining standard double locking tremolo systems and custom high-output humbuckers
mated to solid alder construction and rich, custom finishes, these guitars offer powerful,
distinctive sounds to meet the needs of today’s guitarist.

No more hassles locking and releasing the strings
All guitars with a standard double locking tremolo suffer the same weakness: tuning stability is amazing but changing the
strings is a real chore. That’s why we developed the Finger Clamp System, which makes restringing a breeze. Check it out
on the RGX620DZ and 520DZ models you’ll never go back to the old way again. And this system’s designed to handle hard
playing, so you’ll stay in tune no matter how heavy the action gets.
RGX620DZ, 520DZ
We’re always looking for new ways to improve our guitars. Take the conventional Floyd Rose string locking system, for
example. Sure, it keeps the guitar in tune even during the most intense rock sessions, but it also has its weak points. Every
time you need to retune or change strings you have to tighten or loosen multiple screws, requiring a number of wrenches of
different sizes. Add to this the hassle of cutting ball ends from strings and you see where we’re coming from.

The new Finger Clamp System – RGX620DZ/520DZ
The new Finger Clamp System (patent pending) developed by Yamaha solves all of these problems in
a single stroke. This innovative mechanism allows you to lock and release the strings at the nut and
bridge with one finger and no tools. Here’s how easy it is to use:
910
(2) Similarly, release the locks
at the tremolo bridge.
(1) Release the lock at the nut. (3) Fit the strings and tune
them. (4) First, lock the nut by simply
turning the knob (5) After locking, the knob can
be moved to ensure it’s well
out of the way of your
fretting hand
(6) Next clamp the locks at the
bridge side, and complete
the process using the fine-
tuning keys
(7) The system even comes with a
tremolo holder that prevents
the tremolo unit from
sagging while strings are
being replaced.

From his days with the Brecker Brothers and Miles Davis to his
string of successful solo albums and tours, Mike Stern's credentials
are indisputable. Throughout his career as one of the reigning kings
of modern jazz guitar, Mike has relied on single-cutaway guitars.
His devotion to that instrument is reflected in the Mike Stern
signature model, the PAC1511MS.
The solid ash, single-cutaway body and 7 1/4" radius of the maple
neck give the PAC1511MS the feel of a well-worn vintage
instrument. A Seymour Duncan '59 in the neck position offers a

When the SG-2000 was first introduced in July 1976, guitarists the world over were awed by its beautiful aesthetics
and innovative design. In the 30 years that have since passed, the fact that it has undergone little in the way of
change is testament to its exceptionally high level of quality and perfection.
And now, Yamaha has created a special blend of its unparalleled handcraftsmanship and innovative technology that
brings the SG2000 and SG1000 to new heights. Starting in 2005, both instruments are in production on a dedicated
line at Yamaha Music Craft—Yamaha’s elite handcraft workshop that is responsible for producing Yamaha’s top-of-
the-line handcrafted acoustic guitars and custom instruments. These two instruments also benefit from Yamaha’s
latest technological advancements with the application of Initial Response Acceleration—a process originally
developed for Yamaha’s acoustic violins that accelerates the maturing process resulting in instruments that play and
sound right out of the box, as if they have been played for years.
The new SG2000 and SG1000—the pinnacle Yamaha’s handcraftsmanship and technology, both past and present.

a bridge-mounted piezo pickup to produce not only electric jazz sounds, but also acoustic archtop sounds.

The 628 mm (24 3/4") scale and the Alnico V humbuckers of the
SA2200 make it ideal for rock and blues, while the thinline, semi-
hollowbody design makes it just as well suited for pop and jazz.
The 2200 features a highly figured maple top and a mahogany
neck with an ebony fingerboard. The push-push tone pots switch
the pickups from humbucking to single-coil. The gold hardware
sets off the beautiful Violin Sunburst finish of this versatile guitar.

Not many musicians can say they're in a band that’s changed the course of
rock'n roll, but Michael Anthony can. From Van Halen's humble beginnings
playing backyard keggers in Pasadena to headlining arenas and stadiums
all over the planet, there’s hardly a stage Michael hasn't seen. This kind of
rock’n roll lifestyle requires a rugged rock'n roll bass, and the BB3000MA is
it!
Based on a through-neck BB design, the BB3000MA features a streamlined
neck shape and deeper cutaways. Other custom appointments include a
Hipshot D-tuner, both J- and split-style pickups, and an original, chili

3-piece 890mm (35”) maple necks. The bodies are premium quilted maple on alder, and house two custom alnico

bridge are standard. Available colors are Trans Black, Trans Dark Red, and Natural. The TRB1005 is also available
in fretless and left-hand configurations. With the TRB1006/1005, ultra high-end quality instruments are finally
available to working bassists.
TRB 6PII/5PII
The TRB6PII and TRB5PII are hybrid 6- and 5-string basses that offer greater tonal creativity through the utilization
of piezo-loaded bridges in combination with a pair of alnico V hum-cancelling pickups. Both instruments offer ash
bodies with a choice of a maple, bubinga, or ovangkol top, and through-body maple necks with 24-fret ebony
fingerboards. A pickup balancer and separate piezo volume control allow blending of sound sources which,
together with the onboard 3-band active EQ, offer an amazing range of sounds and tonal subtleties.

sideman, John relies on his TRB JP2 signature 6-string bass to fit any role. Multiple
layers of alder, ash and figured maple are used on the TRB JP2 to create a sonic
combination perfectly suited for solid, low-end comping and clear, concise solos.
The body's sculpted cutaways hug the 26-fret neck and allow easy access to its
upper reaches. Mother-of-pearl and abalone inlays adorn the ebony fingerboard,
and the custom designed pearl and gold tuners offer precise tuning and visual
elegance. Electronics include a pair of Yamaha Side by Side Double Coil x 2 and an
active 3-band EQ tuned to John's specs. Versatile enough for any call, the TRB JP2
delivers the tone, power, and presence you expect from Patitucci and Yamaha.

The BEX-BS is a semi-hollowbody design that
features a figured sycamore top with a unique
f-hole design, alder back and sides, and a
translucent magenta finish. The rosewood on
maple neck sports a distinctive abalone inlay
design. A single pushbutton switches the
humbucking pickups from passive to active
circuitry, and the blue LED indicates which
mode you're in.

Billy Sheehan Signature From his roots with Talas to headlining arenas with David Lee Roth and Mr. Big, Billy Sheehan has never shied away
from taking risks. Billy has taken rock bass playing to a new level with his bold performances and highly evolved
technique. Billy worked closely with the team at Yamaha Guitar Development to produce two signature instruments:
the Attitude Limited2 and the BEX-BS. The Attitude Limited2 starts with a 21-fret maple neck bolted to an alder body,
but that’s where the standard features end. Custom-shop touches include a pair of Dimarzio WillPower pickups
routed to separate output jacks for discreet amplification, passive EQ with hi-cut circuitry, a solid brass bridge,
Hipshot "D Tuner", and unique, partial scalloping of the maple fingerboard.

Elegant design and sonic solutions are Yamaha traditions. Yamaha continues to innovate with the Silent series.
Originally designed as ideal practice and travel instruments, the steel string SLG100S and nylon-string SLG100N
quickly became popular with touring guitarists enamored with its practical, feedback-free live applications and
modern jet-age appearance. The custom designed pickup systems by L.R. Baggs and B-Band faithfully reproduce
every nuance, providing full, rich tone for stage and studio work. The SLG twins also feature great sounding built-
in Yamaha digital reverbs. Backstage, on the tour bus, or at home, the SLG100 easily fulfills the role of a woodshed
axe, thanks to its comfortable, lightweight composite frame and included earbud-style headphones. With the AUX
IN jack, you can connect a CD player for private jamming.
When you're finished, the SLG100 quickly dismantles and stores in the included compact gig bag for easy storage
and travel. The SLG100 works with batteries or the included power supply.
