EON VIU User Installation Guide
The EON Vending Information Unit (VIU) comes fully assembled and ready for
operation. The user only needs to attach the unit to the interior of the vending machine
per the instructions below. No programming or adjustments to the unit are required from
the user.
Elements of the fully assembled VIU include:
Housing
The modem is packaged in a labeled metal box. There are four LEDs, a password store
button, serial connector, and DEX input, visible from the outside. There is a power cable
that connects to the vending machine's outlet, so no cutting or splicing for installation is
required.
Radio
Attached to the housing is a fixed frequency fm radio transmitter. The radio is connected
to the controller board via a serial cable. The radio has a male bnc connector mounted
aside the serial connector to allow connection to the antenna.
Power Adapter
Powering the unit is a UL approved DC power adapter. The adapter's output rating is
+12VDC/1.25A. The adapter's input rating is 100~120V~: 60Hz, 0.45A. The unit plugs
directly into the housing.
Antenna
The antenna is a 50-Ohm, "whip" style, ¾ wave, with a bnc connector.
Connections
The Dex cable has connectors for Dex ports on both the VIU housing and the vending
machine.
VIU Installation:
Connect the Dex cable to its respective ports in both the vending machine and VIU
housing.
Firmly attach the housing unit to a secure location inside the vending machine using the
heavy-duty adhesive Velcro strip.

Once the housing is physically installed in the vending machine, it must be initialized
(powered up) with the door to the vending machine open and with the password button
depressed. This is accomplished by simply plugging the DC power adapter into the
vending machines standard 110V outlet. This allows the VIU to retrieve the password
from the vending machine controller board.
To verify that installation has been properly completed, watch for the red transmit light to
flash once, and all lights to turn down except the yellow LED. At this point the
installation is complete. If this light sequence is not observed, repeat the installation
steps. If all steps are deemed to be completed successfully and the correct light flashing
sequence is still not observed, remove the VIU from the vending machine and return to
EON for service or repair.
FCC Warning:
Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the manufacture could void the
user's authority to operate the equipment.
RF Exposure Statement:
The VIU antenna must be installed in the vending machine in a location that will
provide a separation distance of at least 71 centimeters from the user of the machine
or nearby persons.
