You can now eliminate runninglong speaker wires through your rooms, whileenhancing the sound coming from thosespeakers.How It WorksThe transmitter converts the audio signalfrom your audio source into a 5.8GHz radiofrequency and transmits it to the receiver.The receiver will pick up the best signal fromone of its two antennas and convert thesignal back to its original form. Using apowerful amplifier, the signal is passed toyour connected rear surround speakers. Theresult is an enhanced sound quality resultingin a theater quality surround soundexperience.This system is compatible with most audiosources such as televisions, VCRs, stereoreceivers/amplifiers, CD players, andpersonal stereos. This unit allows you tolisten to wired speakers in any room in thehouse when a two-channel source isconnected to the transmitter. 3SET UP OVERVIEWYour new Digital Audio Link Wireless 5.8GHz is easy to set up using your existing HomeTheater or stereo components. This system is compatible with most audio source. Please takea few minutes to read this manual before you start.1. Unpack the wireless system and accessories.2. Select the best location to set up the transmitter and receiver.3. Connect the transmitter to your audio source and power it on.4. Connect the receiver to your rear surround speakers and power it on.5. Adjust the antennas for best reception.6. Set the input level on the transmitter for best sound level.7. Adjust the receiver volume to the desired level.PLACEMENTIt is best to place the transmitter and receiver as high as possible in an area where there will bethe least traffic. ÔWe recommend you place the transmitter on top of your audio source or stereo stand. For usewith a home theater system, hook the receiver up to the rear surround speakers.CONNECTING THE TRANSMITTERConnect the transmitter to your audio device using speaker wires or stereo cables. Do not useboth speaker wire and stereo cables. Do not connect speakers to this transmitter. Ô1. Power off the audio source or A/V receiver before making any connections.If your audio source’s output uses stereo jacks connect the Left / Right LINE OUT from theaudio source to the Left / Right LINE IN on the transmitter with stereo cables (not supplied).Match Left to Left and Right to Right.If you use your A/V receiver or Home Theater as the audio source you can connect thesurround (rear) speaker outputs to the transmitter’s HI LEVEL AUDIO IN with the suppliedspeaker wire. Match polarity (+ / –) and Left /Right appropriately.2. Connect the supplied AC adapter’s barrel-shaped plug into the DC 9V jack, and then plugthe transformer into a standard AC outlet.3. Set the level adjust to the minimum.4. Push STANDBY / ON /OFF to toggle between power on (the LED lights red) and standby (theLED lights green).ÔNOTES ÔPlacement• We have included a unique, adjustable standdesigned to cradle either unit, both verticallyand horizontally depending on what bestadapts to your environment.• You may find that reception is improved whenthe units are moved closer together, but notless than three feet apart.• This system will not work properly from withinan enclosed metal cabinet.Connecting the Transmitter• Power off the audio source, A/V receiver orHome Theater before making anyconnections.• This system is not compatible with 6.1systems.TRANSMITTER REAR VIEWAntenna — Rotate180 degreeshorizontally, or tiltback and forth toadjust the signalsent to the receiver.DC 9V — Connect thesupplied AC adapter tothe transmitter at this DCinput jackLEVEL ADJUST — Turn toadjust the sound quality.LINE IN — Connect the LINE OUT(Left and Right) from an audio sourceto these inputs using stereo cables(not supplied).HI LEVEL AUDIO IN — Connect the surroundor rear speaker outputs from your audiosource (A/V receiver or Home Theatersystem) to these inputs using the suppliedspeaker wire.CH — Set the switches ofthis channel selector tochoose one of six presetfrequencies.15-1974.fm Page 3 Tuesday, September 9, 2003 3:14 PM
4CONNECTING THE RECEIVER1. Connect your left and right rear surround speakers using speaker wire (not supplied).2. Set the volume control to low.3. Plug the AC power cord into the nearest wall outlet.4. Make sure the transmitter is either in standby mode or powered on before turning thereceiver on.The red LED will be illuminated on both units. The green LED on the receiver will flashindicating it is searching for the transmitter signal and flicker until it finds a clear signal fromthe transmitter, at which time the receiver’s LED glows solid green.5. If you have a clear signal, adjust the volume control on the receiver so the audio levelcoming from your rear surround speakers is balanced with the rest of your system.6. If there is noise or distortion of the sound, you will need to adjust the antenna and thetransmitter input level.ADJUSTING THE ANTENNASThe transmitter and receiver are provided with diversity antennas that fold up or down androtate through a horizontal range of 180 degrees for flawless audio reception and maximumpositioning options, enabling either or both the transmitter and receiver to be positionedvertically or horizontally. The receiver has two antennas to maximize reception.• Make sure that the flat side of the antennas on both the transmitter and receiver are facingtoward each other.• The maximum transmission range (up to 30 feet) is achieved when there is a clear line ofsight between the transmitter and receiver antennas.• You may wish to position the antennas so they face the ceiling at a 45 degree angle,reflecting the transmitter signals to the receiver.SETTING THE INPUT LEVELThe input level is located on the back panel of the transmitter which can be used to adjust eitherthe line input or speaker input to the transmitter. The input level balances low level input signalsbetween the audio source and the transmitter. If there is distortion from your surround speakerswhen you raise the main volume of your system, the input level should be adjusted down. If theinput level is set too low, the surround speakers will not get enough power to raise the volume toa desired level.1. Set the front speaker volume level to slightly higher than desired to establish a properoutput signal level for your rear speaker output.RECEIVERREAR VIEWAUDIO OUT — Connect yoursurround speakers to these outputswith speaker wire (not supplied).Antennas — Rotate either or both antennae to adjustreception.AC power cordAntenna cradles — Fold antennas to rest in thesecradles when they are not in use.15-1974.fm Page 4 Tuesday, September 9, 2003 3:14 PM
52. Set the transmitter input level to the minimum setting.3. Set the receiver volume control to about three quarters the volume level.4. Adjust the transmitter input level to obtain the highest sound quality without distortion.5. Adjust the receiver volume control to balance the rear sound with the rest of the speakers.CHANGING THE CHANNEL FREQUENCYTo minimize interference from other 5.8GHz systems such as a 5.8 GHz cordless phone or awireless LAN in your environment, this system allows the user to select one of six presetchannels. If you should experience interference from another 5.8GHz system, select a differenttransmission channel. The channel selector is located on the back panel of the transmitter.Ô1. With both the receiver and transmitter plugged in and powered on, push the power buttonto put the transmitter in standby mode.2. Use a pointed object such as a pen or straightened paper clip to set the channel selectoron the transmitter to one of the six available channels.3. Press the power button again to set the transmitter so that the unit will reset when it powersback on.4. The receiver will automatically search for the selected channel. The green LED on the frontpanel of the receiver will flash to indicate the receiver is searching for the transmitter signal.5. Keep switching channels on the transmitter until the receiver has a clear signal and thegreen LED glows brightly.SETTING A PERSONAL ID CODEIf you should have another unit or system operating in your home, this feature has been addedto ensure that the transmitted signal is only received by the receiver set to the same code as thetransmitter. In order to receive audio signal only from your transmitter, you have the option ofselecting from 256 possible combinations, to set a personal ID code for your wireless system. Ifyou have two transmitters setup near each other, you may also need to change the channelfrequency for better reception.1. 62. Loosen the screw with a screw driver and remove the panel on the bottom of both thereceiver and the transmitter units.3. Use a pen or a pointed object such as a straightened paper clip to move the levers andchange the code on the transmitter.4. Put the panel back on and tighten the screw beforeplugging the transmitter and receiver into the AC power source. Plug in and power on thetransmitter, and then plug in and power on the receiver to make sure the system is workingproperly.CAREKeep the transmitter and receiver dry; if either unit gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Use andstore the transmitter and receiver only in normal temperature environments. Handle themcarefully; do not drop them. Keep the transmitter and receiver away from dust and dirt, and wipethem with a damp cloth occasionally to keep both looking new.SERVICE AND REPAIRIf your transmitter or receiver is not performing as it should, take it to your local RadioShackstore for assistance. To locate your nearest RadioShack, use the store locator feature onRadioShack's website (www.radioshack.com), or call 1-800-The Shack (843-7422) and followthe menu options. Modifying or tampering with the transmitter or receiver's internal componentscan cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty and void your FCC authorization tooperate it.! If it is not lit or itis flickering, adjust the antennas• If you have set a personal ID Code for your system, make sure that bothunits are set to the same code.The audio is distorted.• Make sure the audio going to the transmitter is not distorted.• If your transmitter is hooked up to a Dolby Digital processor or receiver,try adjusting the input power level.The system has noise.• Check that the antennas on the transmitter and receiver are in uprightpositions with a clear line of sight to each other.• Move the transmitter and receiver closer together, but make sure theyare placed not less than three feet apart.• Cordless phones may cause some interference to the receiver. Positionthe receiver farther away from these devices or change the channel onthe transmitter.• Metal objects, such as some building structural supports, can causeinterference. Try positioning antennas to face the ceiling. The signal willbounce off the ceiling avoiding direct contact with metal.• Try switching to another frequency channel.No sound from the rearsurround speakers• Check the volume level on the receiver to make sure it is turned upenough to be in balance with the rest of your system.• Make sure the transmitter is turned on and the red LED is lit. When thetransmitter is in standby mode, the receiver is searching for a signal.• Disconnect the audio link’s transmitter and receiver from AC power for30 seconds. Then reconnect.No sound from onespeaker• Make sure the speaker is connected to the receiver.• Check the speaker balance on your audio source.5GHz 802.11a WLANinterference• Set your 5 GHz WLAN band to 5.15- 5.35 GHz band range.
