No. 60-4221 Specter r Your Radioshack Specter is built to handle the road in style, whether the road is the hallway in your house or the sidewalk outside. Built to 1/20 scale, it c an reach speeds of up to 110 feet per minute. INSTALLING BATTERIES You need four AA batteries to power the Specter and one 9—Volt battery for its transmitter. Cautions: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended t ype Page 1 601221 - Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries (standard, alkaline, or rechargeable], or rechargeable batteries of different c apacities. - Never leave dead or weak batteries in the Firebolt or the trans mitter. - Dispose of batteries promptly and properly; do not bury or burn them. Installing the Specter‘s Batteries " You need four AA batteries (not supplied) to power your Specter. We recommend a lkaline batteries. 1. Slide ON/OFF on the right hand side of the Specter to OFF. 2. Use a coin to twist the slot in front of the battery compartmen t cover, then lift the cover up to open it. 3. Install the batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ a nd —) marked inside. 4. Push up on the cover and slide it forward to secure it. If the Specter moves slowly or not at all, replace the Specter‘s batteries. Note: If you do not plan to use the Spe‘cter for several days, remove the batter ies. Batteries can leak chemicals that can damage electronic parts. Installing the Transmitter's Battery The transmitter requires one 9»volt battery (not supplied). We recommend an alk aline battery. 1. Press and slide the battery compartment cover off the transmitt er. 2. Place a battery in the compartment according to the polarity sy mbols [+ and ~) marked inside. 3. Slide the cover back into place. He sure it snaps shut. when the transmitter's range decreases, replace its battery. OPERATION Driving the Specter Warning: Never play with your specter in the street. 1. Slide ON/OFF on the right hand side of the Specter to ON. 2. The Specter's transmitter has one control triggeri Hold down th e trigger to tilts up the car body and spinning. The Specter stops when you rel ease the trigger. Then hold down the trigger again to move forward in a straigh t line. 3. when you finish driving the Specter, slide ON/OFF to OFF. HELPFUL HINTS These hints can help you get the most enjoyment from your Specter. ' Running your truck continuously for long periods generates high heat levels. Heat causes the most wear and tear on the motor. To help keep hea t levels down, when your truck's battery power dies, let the truck cool at leas t 10 minutes before installing new batteries. ~ If the Specter's motor runs but the Specter does not respond to the transmitter, move the transmitter closer to the Specter and try again. - If someone uses a CB nearby, it might interfere with control of the Specter. If this happens, move the Specter away from the CB. ' You cannot operate your Specter near devices with transmitters that use the same frequency (49 MHZ) . CARE AND MAINTENANCE The following suggestions will help you care for your Radioshack Specter so you can enjoy it for years. ' Do not expose the specter to temperature extremes. - wipe the Specter with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it look Page 2 60c4221 ing new. - Do not use the Specter on a wet floor, on sand, or in mud, rain , or snow. These can damage it‘ - If the Specter moves slowly, and you have installed fresh batte ries, check the wheel mechanisms and remove any lint, thread, hair, or dust you see. Modifying or tampering with the Specter's or the transmitter’s components can (2 ause a malfunction and might invalidate the warranty and Void your FCC authoriz ation to operate them. If the Specter does not work properly, take it to your 1 ocal Radioshack store for assistance. THE FCC WANTS YOU To KNOW Your Specter or transmitter might cause TV or radio interference even when it i 5 operating properly. To determine whether your Specter or transmitter is causi nq the interference, release the transmitter's control button and turn off your Specter. If the interference goes away, your Specter or transmitter is causing it. Try to eliminate the interference by: - Moving your Specter away from the TV or radio - Contacting your local Radioshack store for help If you cannot eliminate the interference, the FCC requires that you stop using your Specter and transmitter.
