INTRODUCTION The RDM-2 (Mullion type) and RDR-2 are external proximity readers, compatible with the Prox-in-a-Box (PIAB) access control system. The system is designed to limit access to restricted areas, while permitting authorized people to enter. The readers are 26-bit Wiegand compatible proximity readers and can be used with any other compatible access control system. It is recommended to install the readers on a wall outside the protected area, and the PIAB control unit inside the protected area. Proximity access cards or tags are used as keys to open these doors. When in the presence of the readers, the access card emits a coded RF signal that is read by the proximity reader. The RDR-2/RDM-2 then forwards this signal to the PIAB control unit. The control unit verifies that the card is valid and makes the decision as to whether it should energize an output relay that releases the lock. All activity involving the proximity readers is recorded and logged. MOUNTING Mount the proximity reader outside the door on the wall or door frame. The RDR-2/RDM-2 comes with a 1m (3 ft) wire lead. To mount the proximity reader: A. Insert a screwdriver into the recess at the bottom or top of the case, and separate the cover from the reader. B. Place the base on the installation surface, mark two screw holes, drill the holes, and insert plastic anchors, if necessary. Figure 2. RDM-2 Mounting C. Fasten the base to the mounting surface, using two screws. D. Replace the reader’s cover, ensuring that the cover is aligned with the reader. This enables the LED to be visible. Figure 3. RDR-2 Mounting Note: Do not install the RDR-2/RDM-2 on a metal surface or a metal door frame, since this decreases the read range significantly. If you have to install the reader on a metal surface, use a spacer so that the reader will be at least 1 cm (3/8 in.) away from the metal. You may use RDR BACK (for RDR-2) or RDM-BACK (for RDM-2) which is an optionally available spacer made specifically for this purpose. Note: When installing more than one reader, the distance between the readers should be at least 60 cm (2 ft.), to ensure proper operation.

INTRODUCTION The RDR-1B is an External Proximity Reader, compatible with the Tag-in-a-Bag (TIAB) access control system. The system is designed to limit access to restricted areas, while permitting authorized people to enter. The integration of the external reader in the TIAB system is shown in figure 1. Figure 1 - Integration of External Reader in TIAB System The TIAB has an internal proximity tag reader. For installations in which an additional tag reader is required, the external reader RDR-1B (figure 2) can be used. The external reader is connected to the TIAB control unit by 4 color-coded wires. When presenting a personal tag to the external reader, the tag transmits a coded RF signal back to the reader which communicates the received data to the TIAB. Figure 2 - RDR-1B External Reader It is recommended to install the RDR-1B on a wall outside the protected area, and the TIAB control unit inside the protected area. For information about the TIAB system, refer to the TIAB user’s guide and installation instructions documents. 2. SPECIFICATIONS Indicators: Tri-color LED (green, red, amber). MOUNTING A. Insert a screwdriver into the recess at the bottom or top of the case (see figure 3), and separate the cover from the reader. B. Place the base on the installation surface, mark 2 screw holes, drill the holes and insert plastic anchors, if necessary. C. Fasten the base to the mounting surface, using 2 screws. D. Replace the reader’s cover. NOTE: Make sure that the cover is aligned with the reader, as shown in figure 3, to enable the LED to be visible. CAUTION: The distance between the TIAB control unit and the RDR-1B or between two RDR-1B readers or two TIAB units should be at least 60 cm (2 ft.), to ensure proper operation. IMPORTANT! Do not install the RDR-1B on a metal surface or a metal door frame, since this decreases the read range significantly. If you have to install the reader on a metal surface, use a spacer so that the reader will be at least 1 cm (3/8 in.) away from the metal. You may use RDR-BACK which is an optionally available spacer designed specifically for this purpose. 4. WIRING The external reader has an integral color-coded, 4-wire cable.
