1 OVERVIEW
This dacmnmt describes the Short Range Programmer (SRP). The SR? is designed to provide
interrogation and programming for American Meter so moses Transponders. This document
also includes technical as well as dmription of operation.

1.1 DESCRIPTION
The Sin: is a low power, reduoed reoeiver sensitivity, short range programmer/intarogmm. The
maximum range of the SR? is limited to provide serviee to just the nearby transponder. power
supply Curran is kept low to provide for Nancy operation. An external power supply is used for
recharging the inta-mtl betteries. The ski: is able to recharge while in operation. The charging
supply is 6 volts at GOOmA.
The SRP eonsisls ofa 4 line by 20 than“ LCD display md n 17 button keypad, The charging
jack in m the right hand side ofthe unit.
1.1,1 POWER ON/OFF
The upper ten button is the power on/off switeh. Holding the button dcrwn for at least 5 scconds
will pinee the SR? into User Setup mode. The User Setup Mode will be discussed later. The
power up ween shows SR? version, battery volts and self test status See Figmre 2 for power on
screcn massage. Figure 3 shows the screen ifpower on test fails. in both eases, the ounett version
of the firmware is shown along with the measured battery volts

The SRP operates in several difierent modes. The following paragraphs will deneribe these modes,

This mode will read me u—enspender meter index (meta count). The user may emu the serial
number or use the Find Mode‘s serial number. Hitting the {interrogate key wi|| read me
u-nnsponder's serial number and any unnpa flags set. The mmper flag will show as ‘TAMPER' on
(he lax! line ofthe screen. Rcading ihe transpcnda' a second time will elm: flag tamper condition.
