INTRODUCTION
TheDryBuddyFLEXconsistsofthreeimportantparts:
1. TheDryBuddyFLEXSensor,
2. TheDryBuddyFLEXRemote,and
3. TheDryBuddyFLEXReceiver.
THEDryBuddyFLEXSENSOR
TheSensoristhepartthatdetectsurineorotherbodyfluidswhenusedappropriately.Tosensewhena
patienturinates,theuserhastheflexibilitytousetheSensorinoneoftwoways:
1. TheSensorisattachedtostandardcottonbriefsusingthemagnetsononesideoftheSensor
andamagneticCapwhichclampsthesensortothebriefsatthepointofurination.
2. TheSensorisattachedtospecialDryBuddywiredbriefsusingthesnapsononesideofthe
Sensor.Thesewiredbriefsareusedinplaceofstandardbriefs.

DependingonhowtheSensorwillbeused,aCapand/orspecialwiredBriefswillbeneededtoallowthe
Sensortodetecturination.

UsingtheSensorwithitsCap
TheSensorisattachedtostandardcottonbriefsatthepointofurinationbyplacingtheCaponthe
insideofthebriefs(touchingthepatient'sskin),andthemagnetsoftheSensoroppositetheCapandon
theoutsideofthebriefs.Inthecaseofmalebriefsthathavea“flap”(openingforurination)theSensor
shouldbeplacedtowardsthebottomoftheopeningandontheinsidelayerofcloth.
Whenthepatienturinates,theurineisabsorbedby(soaksinto)thecottonbriefs.Whenthematerialof
thebriefsbetweenthetwomagnetsiswet,thesensorwillbetriggeredandawirelessONsignalsentto
theReceiver.RemovingtheSensor’smagnetsfromthewetbriefsstopsfurthertransmission.

AfterthepatientwearstheDryBuddywiredBriefs,theSensor’smalesnapsareinsertedintothefemale
snapsoftheBriefstilltheyarefirmlyattached,andtheVelcroonthebriefsattachedaroundtheSensor
tohelpkeepitfirmlyinplace.

Whenthepatienturinates,theurineisabsorbedby(soaksinto)thecottonbriefs.Whenthematerialof
thebriefsbetweentwoadjacentwiresiswet,thesensorwillbetriggeredandawirelessONsignalsent
totheReceiver.RemovingtheSensorfromthewetbriefsstopsfurthertransmission.
GeneralNote:WhentheSensorsenseswetness,ittransmitstheONsignalforafractionofasecond.
ThisissufficienttotriggerthewirelessDryBuddyFLEXReceiver(s)andgeneratethealarm.TheSensor
staysinasleepstatefortwominutes,afterwhichtimeitwillagaintransmittheONsignalifitsenses
wetness.Thiswillberepeatedtwo(2)times,afterwhichthesensorwillstopsendinganyfurtherON
signals.However,tosensetheurineandtransmitasignal,theSensormustsenseaquickincreaseinthe
wetnesslevelforaboutonesecondtobecertainthatthewetnessisbeingcausedbyurineandnot
perspirationorsomeothergradualfactor.TheReceiver(s)onlyneedthefirstONsignalfromtheSensor
tocauseit/themtogenerateanalarm,andwillcontinuetogeneratethealarmuntiltheReceiver(s)
is/areturnedOFF.FurthertransmissionbytheSensorisnotneeded,anditisadvisabletodisconnectthe
sensorfromthewetbriefssothattheSensor’sbatterypowerisnotwastedwithrepeatedtransmissions
forthesameincident.Werecommendthatthesensorbepromptlyremovedfromthewetbriefs.Before
washing/cleaningtheSensor,pleasebecertaintoturntheentiresystemOFFbypressingtheRemote’s
OFFswitchtwice(2times),ormanuallypressingtheMPSbuttonontheReceiver.
THEDryBuddyFLEXREMOTE
ThepurposeoftheDryBuddyFLEXRemoteistomakeusingtheDryBuddyFLEXsystemconvenientforthe
caregiver/parent,andtherebyhelpthepatient(child).
TheDryBuddyFLEXRemoteisusedtoremotelyturntheReceiver(s)ONtotheirREADYstate.Whenthe
Receiver(s)areOFF,pressingtheRemoteONbuttononce,willturnALLReceiversONtotheirREADY
state.

Whenthealarmsaresounding,pressingtheOFFbuttonontheRemoteoncewillturnALLalarmsOFF.
ThisappliestoALLalarmsattachedtoALLReceivers.TheReceiversarenowsilentbutintheirREADY
state.
WhentheReceiversarenotsoundingtheiralarms,pressingtheOFFbuttonontheRemotewillturnALL
receiverscompletelyOFF.TheReceiverswillneedtobeturnedONtotheirREADYstatetobeused
further.
THEDryBuddyFLEXRECEIVER
TheDryBuddyFLEXReceiverreceivessignalsfromtheDryBuddyFLEXSensor,DryBuddyFLEXRemote,and
otherDryBuddyFLEXReceiversthatarepartoftheinstalledDryBuddyFLEXsystem.EachDryBuddyFLEX
systemusesaspecificandoriginalcodeassociatedwithitsSensorandRemote.EachDryBuddyFLEX
Receiverinthesystemispresettolinkwith(besynchronizedwith,orworkwith)thisspecificSensor
andRemote.IftheSensororRemotearechanged,orifanyReceiverischangedoraddedtothesystem,
theReceiver(s)mustberesettolinkwiththespecificSensorandRemotethatarebeingused.
DryBuddyFLEXReceiverSetup:
Plugthereceiverintoa110V120VAC60Hzpoweroutlet.Thisisthetypicalwallpoweroutletfoundin
homesandbuildingsintheU.S.A,Canada,andsomeothercountries.TheReceiverwillbeOFF,andno
LEDlightswillbeon.
1. ToturntheMainPowerSupply(MPS)on,manuallypresstheMPSswitchontheReceiveronce,
orpresstheONbuttonatthebottomoftheRemote.Asinglebeepwillsound,andtheLEDat
thebottomrightoftheReceiverwillturnBlue.ThissingleBluelightindicatesthattheReceiver
isinitsREADYstate,andcanreceivetheSensorsignalwhichwouldturnitsalarm(s)on.
2. ToturntheMPSoff,manuallypresstheMPSswitchonce,orpresstheOFFbuttonatthetopof
theRemote.TheBluelightontheReceiverwillturnoff.TheReceiverisnowOFF,andwillnot
receiveSensorsignalsoractivateanyalarms.

3. TosettheVolumeoftheReceiver’sbuiltinspeaker,pressthe+button(onrightside)orthe
button(onleftside).Thespeaker/alarmwillsound.Eachtimethe+buttonispressed,the
volumeincreasesbyonesteptillitsmaximumvolume.Eachtimethebuttonispressed,the
volumedecreasesbyonesteptillitsminimumvolume.PressingtheMPSbutton,ortheOFF
buttonontheRemote,takesyououtoftheVolumesetprogramandbackintotheREADYstate
withtheBluelightshowing.
4. AccessoryalarmscanbeaddedtoeachDryBuddyFLEXReceiver.EachReceiverhastwo12VDC
500mapoweroutletsontherightside.Anyaccessorywhichworkswiththispowerandhasa
suitablepowerplugcanbeattached.Asexamples,DryBuddyprovidesasoptionalaccessoriesa
BedShakerandanAudioAlarm,whichusethese12Vpoweroutletsandcanbesetonornextto
thepatient’sbed.ThesealarmswouldsupplementthealarmsoundingfromtheReceiver.When
theReceiver’salarmisturnedONorOFF,theseattachedalarmswillalsobeturnedONorOFF.
5. TheAlarmTestSwitch(ATS)isusedtotesttheReceiver’salarmandallattachedalarms,by
providingpowertothemandturningthemallON.TheATSswitchwillneedtobedepressedfor
afewseconds.Atthistime,theLEDonthelowerleftoftheReceiverwillblinkRed.The
accessoryaudioalarmvolumecontrolcanbeadjustedatthistime.WhenintheATSmode,the
builtinspeaker’svolumecannotbeadjusted,andthisspeaker’svolumemustbeadjustedwhen
outoftheATSmodebyusingthe+orbuttonasdescribedin3.YoumustexittheATSmode
bypressingtheMPSbuttononceortheRemoteOFFbuttononce.Thiswillagainplacethe
ReceiverinitsREADYstate,andtheBlueLEDwilllight.
6. Multiple(additional)ReceiverscanbeusedwiththeDryBuddyFLEXsystem.AdditionalReceivers
maybeplacedinthecaregiver’s(parent’s)room,orelsewhereinthehousetoalertthe
caregiver.Amaximumoffive(5)ReceiverscanbeusedinaDryBuddyFLEXsystemand
synchronizedtothesameSensorandRemote.EachReceivercanhaveitsvolumesetas
describedin3.Totestorsetthevolumeofitsaccessoryalarms,useitsATSbutton.
7. NotefortheMPSbutton:PressingtheMPSbuttonONLYturnsthelocalReceiverONorOFF,
placingthatReceiverinitsREADYstateorturningitOFF.
8. NotefortheATSbutton:PressingtheATSbuttonturnsONALLalarmsforALLReceivers.
PressingtheMPSbuttononaReceiveronlyturnsOFFthealarmsatthatsingleReceiver.To
manuallyturnOFFthealarmsonALLReceivers,eachReceiver’sMPSbuttonmustbepressed.

9. ToturnalarmsOFF:WhenthealarmsareON,toswitchALLalarmsOFFonALLReceivers,itis
necessarytousetheOFFbuttonontheRemote.IndividualReceiverscanonlybeturnedoffby
manuallypressingtheMPSbuttononthatReceiver.
GeneralInformationaboutDryBuddyFLEXReceivers:
MaximumNumberofReceiversinaDryBuddyFLEXsystem:Five(5).
ThetypicalwirelesstransmissionrangeofaReceiverinahouseis110feet(33meters).Theactual
transmissionrangecanvary,behigherorlower,dependinguponthematerialsinthespacebetween
adjacentReceivers.Metalobjectsin/onthewalls,furniture,appliances,etc.inthedirectlinebetween
Receiverscanreducethetransmissionrange.
DryBuddyFLEXReceiversinasysteminteractwithoneanotherinteractively,withnoconstraintsor
prioritiesforspecificreceivers.Ifeachreceiveriswithintransmission/receptionrangeofanyother
receiverinthesystem,allreceiverswillfunctionproperly.Consequently,forthesystemtoreceivea
signalfromtheSensorortheRemote,havinganyoneReceiverwithinreceivingrangeissatisfactory.
USINGTHEDryBuddyFLEXRECEIVERANDINITIALSYSTEMSETUP:
IfyoureceivetheSensor,RemoteandaReceiverinoneprepackagedbox,alloftheseitemswillhave
beensynchronizedbeforeshipping.AdditionalornewReceivers,SensororRemote(packedinseparate
boxes)willneedtobesynchronizedsothatallpartsoftheDryBuddyFLEXsystemwillworkproperly
together.Thissynchronizingprocedureisdescribedinthelatersectionofthisinstructionmanual
"SYNCHRONIZINGTHEDryBuddyFLEXSENSOR,REMOTEANDRECEIVER(S)."
1. TestthattheSensor,RemoteandReceiversaresynchronizedbetweenthemselvesbyplacing
theReceiver(s)inwalloutletsinthesameroom
2. Setthevolumeofeachreceivertothedesiredlevel.
3. TurnalloftheReceiverstotheirREADYstatebypressingtheONbuttonontheRemote.Every
Receiver’sBlueLEDshouldlight.ThisindicatesthattheRemoteissynchronizedwiththe
Receivers.
4. TestthattheReceiverscantransmit/receivesignalsfromoneanotherbypressingtheATS
buttonononeoftheReceivers.IfallreceiveralarmssoundandtheyshowablinkingRedlight,
theReceiversaresynchronized.
5. TurnthemOFFbyusingtheOFFbuttonontheRemote.Thealarmsshouldstop,andevery
ReceiverwillshowaBlueLED.
6. TaketheSensor,andelectricallyshortthetwomagnets(orthetwomalesnapsontheother
sideoftheSensor)bylayingacleanconductorsuchasakeyacrossbothmagnetsorbothsnaps.

ThisshortneedstobeinplaceforaboutonesecondoralittlemorebeforetheReceiver(s)will
respond.IftheReceivers’alarmssound,theSensorissynchronizedwiththeReceiver(s).
7. Onceyouhaveverifiedthatallitemsaresynchronizedandwork,takethesensortothe
location/roomwhereitwillbeused.Typically,thisiswherethepatient(child)willbesleeping.
PlaceaReceiverinawallpoweroutletsothatthepatientwillhearthealarmandwakeup.Set
theReceiverintoitsREADYstatebypushingtheMPSbuttonorpressingtheOnbuttononthe
Remote.VerifythattheReceiverwillreceivetheSensor’stransmissionbyshortingthetwo
magnetsorthetwosnapsonthesensor.TheReceiver’salarmshouldsound.
8. IfyouareusingasecondoradditionalReceivers,setoneintheroomwherethecaregiver(or
parent)willbesleeping,andplugitintoawalloutlet.OtherReceiverscanbepluggedintowall
electricoutletswhereneeded.Taketheremotetothespotwherethecaregiverislikelytobe
whenusingtheRemote.TurntheReceiver(s)alarmsonbypressingtheATSbuttonona
Receiver,orshortingtheSensor.AllReceiversshouldsound.PressingtheOFFbuttononthe
RemoteshouldturnallalarmsOFF.
TheDryBuddyFLEXsystemhasnowbeensetupandisreadyforuse.
DryBuddyFLEXSPECIFICATIONS

SYNCHRONIZINGTHEDryBuddyFLEXSENSOR,REMOTEANDRECEIVER(S)
SynchronizingtheReceiverswithEachOther:
Receiversonlyneedtobesynchronizedwithoneanotherifyouareusingmorethanonereceiver.Ifyouhave
onlyoneReceiver,youmayskipoverthissection.
Youwillhavetosynchronizethereceiversif:
1. YouhavemorethanoneReceiver,andtheyhavenotbeensynchronizedatthefactory.
2. Yougetanew/replacementReceiver,eitherasapurchaseoranexchangeforadefectiveReceiver.
TosynchronizetheReceivers:
1. AttachallReceiverstoapowersource.Doingthisinoneroomwillbemoreconvenient.
2. PresstheMPSswitchoneveryReceiver,sothateachReceiverbeepsonceandaBlueLEDlightson
everyReceiver.NowyouknowthatthatallReceiversareintheREADYstate.
3. ForeachReceiver,presstheMPSandATSswitchessimultaneously(atthesametime).Keepthem
pressedforafewsecondstillyouhearoneormorebeepsandtheBlueLEDstartsflashing.
4. ForthefirstReceivertheremayonlybeonebeep.ForthesecondorsubsequentReceiversthere
maybemorethanonebeep,andtheBlueLEDstartsflashing.
5. Afteraboutoneminute,theBlueLEDswillstopflashing.NotethatallReceiversneedtobe
synchronizedwithinthisoneminute.Thesynchronizationcanalsobeterminatedearlierbypressing
theMPSbuttononceoneveryReceiversothattheBlueLEDnolongerflashes.
6. TheReceiversarenowsynchronizedwitheachother.
SynchronizingtheSensorandRemotewiththeReceiver(s):
YouwillneedtosynchronizetheSensorand/ortheRemotewiththeReceiversif:
1. TheSensorand/orRemotewerenotsynchronizedwiththeReceiver(s)atthetimeofpurchase.
2. YougetaneworreplacementSensor,Remoteand/orReceiver.
DothefollowingforeachReceiverthatrequirestobesynchronizedwiththeSensor/Remote,oneatatime:
1. ConnecttheReceivertothe110V120VACpowersource.PresstheMPSbuttononthereceiver.You
willhearabeepandtheBlueLEDwilllightfortheReceiver.
2. OntheReceiver,pressthe+andbuttonssimultaneously(atthesametime)forafewseconds,till
youhearabeepandseeaGreenflashingLED.
3. WhiletheGreenlightisflashingyoucansynchronizetheRemoteand/ortheSensor.
4. TosynchronizetheRemote,whiletheGreenlightisflashingontheReceiver,presstheONorOFF
buttonontheRemote.TheReceiverwillbeeponce.Ifyouhavefinishedwiththesynchronizing,
presstheMPSswitchontheReceiveronce,andyouwillhearoneormorebeepsandtheBlueLED
willlight.
5. TosynchronizetheSensor,whiletheGreenlightisflashingontheReceiver,shorttheSensorby
placingacleankeyorsimilarconductingmaterialacrossthetwomagnetsoracrossthetwosnapson
theothersideoftheSensor.TheReceiverwillbeeponce.Ifyouhavefinishedwiththesynchronizing,
presstheMPSswitchontheReceiveronce,andyouwillhearoneormorebeepsandtheBlueLED
willlight.

YourSensorand/orRemoteisnowsynchronizedwiththisReceiver.Pleaserepeatthisprocesswithall
Receivers.
