DANGER MITSUBISHI MOTORS Remote Control Engine Starter System is only for Automatic transmission cars. DO NOT install MITSUBISHI MOTORS Remote Control Engine Starter System in Manual transmission cars. 08, 8 - 1 - 1.Introduction Safety Messages ●The following symbols are used in this manual. ! DANGER ! WARNING are extremely important. The instructions following these symbols must be read thoroughly and followed accordingly. ! Precautions ●Some communities may have restrictions on the use of remote starters. Before using your remote control engine starter system, please check all local laws and regulations. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. ●Do not peel off the label on the Transmitter. ●Consult your dealer for the installation of the remote control engine starter system. - 2 - 2.Features of the System ●The remote control engine starter system consists of a Transmitter that allows you to start and stop the engine from outside of the vehicle without using the car keys. ← P.6 However, as precaution measures, the Transmitter will not start the engine unless all of the following conditions are satisfied: ①The gearshift lever is in the “P" (Parking) position. ② All the doors are closed securely.(cars may include tail gates and spare tire carriers, depending on a model.) ③The engine hood is closed securely. ④The car key is removed from the ignition switch.(Or, the ignition switch has not been operated in cars with a keyless entry system.) The engine automatically stops when any one of the above conditions is not satisfied or the gas pedal is stepped on after the engine starts. ●After the remote control engine starter system starts the engine, the engine may be stopped by remote control.The engine stops automatically when a fixed time passes. ← P . 7 ●The engine may not start when the outside temperature is too low or depending on the battery condition. If the engine does not start on the first try, it will automatically try again a second time. If the second try fails, the engine will automatically stop. ●If the car is not used for two weeks, functions will stop to save the car batteries. The engine will not start with the Transmitter, To re activate the Transmitter; turn the ignition switch of the car to the "ACC" position. The remote control can be used again after two seconds. ●Use only one Transmitter for one vehicle as a safety precaution. Do not register two Transmitters or more. - 3 - 3.Safety Precaution ! DANGER Do not start your engine in a closed garage or other area with poor ventilation. Exhaust fumes can cause poisoning and cause unconsciousness and even death. ! DANGER Electric waves from the transmitter can carry very far depending on the surrounding circumstances. Do not operate the switches on the transmitter unnecessarily. To prevent an accident caused by accidental start of the engine, be sure to operate the remote control car starter system in an area where you can check the safety around the car. ! DANGER Do not remotely start the engine when parked on a hillside. The vibrating engine may start the car unintentionally and cause an accident. ! DANGER Do not remotely start the engine when children and pets are in the car to prevent accidents from occurring. Starting the engine with the Transmitter is the same as switching the ignition in the "ON" position. ! WARNING Checking your car immediately after warming up the engine is dangerous and may cause burns. ! WARNING Do not operate the Transmitter when the engine hood is open. The engine may start and cause an accident if the switch detecting opening and shutting is pushed by mistake. - 4 - ! WARNING Do not start the engine near flammable material, such as grass. It can cause fire. ! WARNING Do not start the engine without removing the body cover from the car. It can cause fire. ! WARNING To prevent accidents during engine warm up, when parking make sure that: - the wiper switch and winkers are turned OFF. Wipers moving when the engine is started may be dangerous. The motor may be damaged if the wiper has frozen. - windows are closed. - doors are locked. ! WARNING Do not disassemble or remodel the Transmitter. Do not use the Transmitter other than for its intended use. Such uses are not included in the warranty. ! WARNING Store the transmitter in a safe place out of reach of children. There is danger of batteries being swallowed or the antenna pricking the eyes. ! WARNING Do not wet the Transmitter with water. It can cause the transmitter to malfunction. - 5 - 4.Operating the Transmitter Electric waves from the transmitter can carry very far depending on the surrounding circumstances. To prevent an accident caused by accidental start of the engine, be sure to operate the remote control car starter system in an area where you can check the surroundings of your car. Before you start the engine ・Check your car so that it satisfies all conditions listed on page 8. Starting the engine. Operation of the Transmitter Push the request button. REQ Antenna Indicator Let go of the request button when the indicator blinks. Push the start button while the indicator is blinking (about 2 seconds). Start button The blinking indicator will change to a continuous light (about 3 seconds), and the engine-starting signal will be Stop button Request button transmitted. The engine starts. → If the engine does not start, the system will automatically go through the starting process twice. ● The engine stops automatically after a certain period of time has passed after starting the engine. When operating the Transmitter: - Fully extend the antenna, - Generally, the electric waves reach farther when the antenna is put up vertically. - Touching the antenna with hands, etc., may interfere with the electric wave transmission. - 6 - Stopping the engine. Operation of the Transmitter Push the request button Let go of the request button when the indicator blinks. Push the stop button while the indicator is blinking (about 2 seconds). REQ The blinking indicator will change to a continuous light (about 3 seconds), and the engine-stopping signal will be transmitted The engine stops. ADVICE ・ Note that when starting the engine, factors such as cars having noisy fan motors or other wireless devices may affect the Transmitter and reduce the operation range. ・ Wait for two seconds or more after the indicator lamp goes out before pushing the switch again for repeated starting or stopping of the engine. Two seconds or more must pass before the next wireless transmission. ・ The engine will automatically stop within approx. 10 minutes after starting the engine with the transmitter if the engine is not stopped. The time for automatically stopping may shorten when the engine is repeatedly started and stopped by the remote control. ・ The engine cannot be stopped with the Transmitter if the engine has been started with the ignition switch. - 7 - 5.Setting the idling time Consult your dealer for setting the idling time. The idling time can be set for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes or 30 minutes. Initial setting (at factory before shipping) is ten minutes. 6.Before Leaving Your Car Always confirm that the following engine starting conditions 1-4 are satisfied before using the remote control engine starter. As a precaution measure, the engine will not start if any one of the conditions 1-4 is not satisfied. 1-The gearshift lever is in the “P” (Parking) position. 2-All the doors are closed securely. (some cars may include tail gates and spare carrier tires, depending on a model.) 3-The engine hood is closed securely. 4-The car key is removed from the ignition switch.(Or, the ignition switch has not been operated in cars with a keyless entry system.) ! WARNING To prevent unexpected accidents from occurring during engine warm-up, before leaving your car, make sure that: - the wiper switch and winkers are turned OFF. - windows are closed - doors are locked - 8 - 7.Care and handling To prevent system breakdown and accidents ! WARNING ・tore the transmitter out of reach of children If your transmitter is ever lost or malfunctioning, contact your dealer at once. ・ In case you lend your car and keys to a third party, do not include your Transmitter for preventing accidents. ●Do not leave the Transmitter in places of high temperature (60℃ or more) such as the dashboard etc. ●Do not drop, throw, or step on the Transmitter. ●Do not apply strong tension or stress on the antenna. ●Do not use or store the Transmitter where water will directly wet it. It can cause the transmitter to malfunction. ●Do not disassemble or remodel the Transmitter ◇Taking care of your Transmitter Wipe the Transmitter with a soft cloth dampened with neutral detergent and water solution, then wipe it with a dry cloth to clean.(Do not use solvents such as benzene and thinner.) ◇Storing the Transmitter Remove the batteries from the Transmitter. - 9 - 8.Transmitter Battery Replacement Replace old batteries for new ones according to the following procedures: Battery Replacement ① Remove the screw in the battery cover using a plus driver. ② Lift the front side of the cover. ③ Remove the cover. Be careful of the tab. ① Close the battery cover according to steps ① to ③. ③ ③ ② ② ① Insert two new batteries (coin type lithium batteries CR2032×2) with the positive (+) mark facing upward. × ADVICE Wipe the batteries well with a dry cloth before use to prevent poor contact of the batteries. ! WARNING - Store the batteries out of reach of children especially. If a child accidentally swallows it, give him/her medical treatment immediately. - Do not hold batteries with metallic tools, such as tweezers. It can short-circuit the batteries and may generate heat. - Do not disassemble, heat or throw the removed batteries in fire. This may cause explosion, etc. - 10 - 9.Troubleshooting Check the following symptoms to diagnose problems with the Remote Control Engine Starter System before consulting your dealer. Engine does not start by operating the transmitter. 【The indicator of the Transmitter does not light up】 Check Remedy Is a transmission repeated directly one after another? Is the battery correctly set? Are the batteries discharged? The next transmission cannot be made for two seconds after the indicator goes off. Wait for two seconds or more before the next operation. Place batteries in correctly. See 'Transmitter Battery Replacement'. Replace the batteries with the new ones. 【The indicator of the Transmitter lights up】 Are the requirements on page 6 met? Meet all requirements. Is the antenna of the Transmitter extended enough? Fully extend the antenna. Is the distance to the car too faraway? Use the Transmitter closer to the car. Has the car been parked for two weeks or more? Turn the ignition switch to the "ACC" position. After two second, the remote function may be used. The engine does not stop by the Transmitter. Is the antenna of the Transmitter extended enough? Fully extend the antenna. Is the distance to the car too faraway? Use the Transmitter closer to the car. The operation distance is short. Is the antenna of the Transmitter extended enough? Fully extend the antenna. Are the batteries discharged?
