12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom 4     Biological Hazard and Returns  The structure and the specifications of this device as well as the materials used for manufacturing makes it easy to wipe and clean and therefore suitable to be used for various applications in hospitals and other medical environments, where procedures for frequent cleaning are specified. However, normal use shall exclude biological contaminated environments, to prevent spreading of  infections. Therefore use of this device in such environments is at the exclusive risk of Customer. In case this device is used where potential biological contamination cannot be excluded, Customer shall implement the decontamination process as defined in the latest edition of the ANSI/AAMI ST35 standard on each single failed Product that is returned for servicing, repair, reworking or failure investigation to Seller (or to the Authorized Service Provider). At least one adhesive yellow label shall be attached on the top site of the package of returned Product and accompanied by a declaration statement proving the Product has been successfully decontaminated. Returned Products that are not provided with such external decontamination label, and/or whenever such declaration is missing, can be rejected by Seller (or by the Authorized Service Provider) and shipped back at Customer expenses.   INTRODUCTION  The Philips 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom, is a wireless smart display, released with Windows Embedded Standard (WES), designed for medical applications. The 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom, is designed upon PMS CV requirements. It makes use of wireless technology and thin-client computing to allow workers to access applications stored on a central server as if they were sitting behind their desktop monitor. Its ruggedized design, compact size and touch-screen interface makes it also a perfect solution for point of information and system control applications too. .  Main features With a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 x86 processor as its engine and Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard as operation system, the 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module   offers a technologically  powerful platform for mobile computing in enterprise applications. Other main features are:  12.1 inch TFT-LCD with Touch-screen functionality; 1024x768 resolution (XGA); display emulated keyboard; integrated WiFi™ 802.11b/g/n PCIE Module wireless LAN - Built-in internal antenna. lightweight (2,50 kg)  Rugged design for the toughest environments The 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom  is compliant with industry standards for liquid (IP21) .  NOTE: This Product has been designed to make it able to withstand certain mechanical stresses and/or to withstand exposure to harsh, wet and dusty environment in accordance to the applicable industrial standards (IP grade). These measures are taken to enhance its durability. However, it cannot be guaranteed that this Product will not be damaged when dropped or when subjected to liquid spill or alike. Therefore the user is required to take appropriate care of the Product and to apply the following recommendations: 1. Do not drop the Product, do not hit the touch screen and do not place heavy objects on the Product 2. Do not expose the Product to moisture, dust and liquid sprays; 3. Do not scratch the touch screen with sharp edges and only use the provided tools (stylus pen);  4. Use a dry soft cloth to clean the Product and, specifically, the touch screen; 5. Do not use the Product in environments exceeding the specified temperature and humidity range
12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom 5     Easy to integrate, deploy and maintain  The  12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom allows users to take full benefit of thin-client computing where data and applications are kept on a server where they can be managed centrally, more securely and at lower total cost. Nearly no downtime is incurred in case a device is lost or stolen: a new 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom  straight from the box allows a user to resume an interrupted login session exactly as before. Server access is provided by one of the two pre-installed thin clients, Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), or Internet Explorer. .    Flexible to fit any vertical application  The 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom offers a full suite of utilities and multiple plug-and-play interfaces for easy integration into any type of environment, and specifically:  - Full-size XGA resolution: 1024 x 768 - Basic version with 1GB RAM and 4GB compact flash memory - Two USB ports - An 100Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet interface    Approved for medical applications  The 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom  meets the medical safety, EMC and Radio  requirements. BEFORE YOU BEGIN  The 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module   Atom  is intended for use as Windows Embedded Standard powered wireless thin client    touch-screen device.  To use your 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom you must have the following; ? an AC / DC power supply (24Vdc output voltage - 3,42 A DC output current) ? a wireless access point to access the corporate network or an Ethernet connection    7. GETTING STARTED The Windows Embedded Standard operating system provides you all the convenience to set-up any type of thin-client session with centrally located applications or web-based services.   7.1. WRITE PROTECTION FILTER  The 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom  is pre-configured with a Windows Embedded Standard  feature called Enhanced Write Filter (EWF) to prevent writing on the CF card. When write protection is activated, all recently installed software products and changed user settings are not stored into the CF and hence are removed after a reboot. The EWF is automatically enabled when the logged user is limited user Headless, and disabled when the logged user is the administrative user Administrator.     7.2. POWER SAVING MODE  To make changes to power saving setup, ? Navigate through: ‘start’ à ’Control panel’ à ‘Power Options’ à ’Power Schemes’. ? Select the power scheme (i.e. Portable, Presentation…) that best meets your needs. ? Click on the ‘OK’ button to save the setting.          Power Schemes

Navigate through: ‘start’ à ’Control  Panel’ à ‘Tablet and Pen Settings’ à ‘Display’ ? Moving the slide, set the desired Brightness level for the ‘When plugged in’ condition. ? Click on the ‘OK’ button to save the setting.     Display                           7.4. SET DATA AND TIME  Double click on the clock  on the taskbar (in the bottom right corner of desktop) to set new data or time

TOUCH THE SCREEN Use a stylus pen to move the mouse cursor or select the desired desktop icon or menu.                          NOTE:      The stylus pen is designed for your screen. The stylus pen can be provided upon customer request.  Use of fingertip or other pointers could damage your screen.   8.2. RIGHT CLICK EMULATION Users accustomed to a mouse device, often right click for quick access to display options for an icon. The stylus pen offers a similar function; touch the screen with the pen and hold it on the screen until the right click action is accomplished. If needed, the right click emulation can be disabled by deselecting the ‘Auto Right Click’ option in the ‘Setting’ folder, ‘Option’ button of the Touchkit Control Panel.

TOUCH-PANEL CALIBRATION  If the response of the Touch-Panel results misaligned with the pen, you can calibrate it following this procedure:  1) Double click on the Touchkit icon in the  Taskbar     2) Select ‘Tools’ on the Touchkit menu.    3) Press ‘Clear and Calibrate’ to clear the linearization data              and start the 4 points calibration.                          4) Select “Tools” on the Touchkit menu, and then ‘Linearization’ 5) Click ‘OK’ at the end to confirm the operation.     to start the 9 points linearization.
12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom 17    9. CONNECTING TO A NETWORK You can setup a connection to a wireless network (WLAN) or a wired network (LAN).  9.1. WLAN CONNECTION  9.1.1. Wireless module Control Panel method ? Click on the REALTEK PCIE Wireless LAN Utility icon in the taskbar, at the bottom right of your screen. ? Click on the ‘Available Network’ Tab to select it. ? Double click on one of the available networks, to start the connection procedure to that network    (you will have to insert other data if required, i.e. network password). ? The selected network will be automatically added in the list of available network Profiles.                              NOTE:     It is possible to completely disable the wireless XPER signal, by clicking on the ‘Radio Off’  option (the blue WLAN status led will turn off).
12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom   18    9.1.2. Windows Zero Configuration method The WLAN setup is strictly dependent on the existing wireless network infrastructure. An example of WLAN setup is depicted:  ? Click on the REALTEK PCIE Wireless LAN Utility icon in the taskbar, at the bottom right of your screen. ? Click on the ‘Windows Zero Config’ option to select it. ? Navigate through : ’start’ à  ’Control Panel’ à ’Network Connections’ and double click on the     ‘Wireless Network Connection’ icon; the Wireless Connection Status window will pop-up. ? Select one of the available networks, and click on the ‘Connect’ button. ? If it is a protected network, insert the required network key or password.                          ? To further configure the WLAN parameters, select ’Change advanced settings’ in the ’Related Tasks’ panel    of the  wireless connection  window. ? The ’Wireless Network Connection Properties’ dialog pops up, select the ’Wireless Networks’ tab. ? Select the preferred network and click on ‘Properties’ button to adjust the authentication / encryption parameters.

REMOTE CLIENT  When the connection is ready, you may be required to launch a remote control application to communicate between your 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module  Atom  and the host computer. The 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module  Atom ships with the RDP applications to do this:  ? Remote Desktop Connection connects to a Window server To complete the connections with Remote Desktop Connection, you will need information including user name, password and network IP. Ask your network administrator to provide the required setup information.

CONTROL PANEL The Control Panel provides access to system settings allowing you to manage the properties of your 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module  Atom  such as:  ? Touch Panel    Configures and calibrates your touch screen.  ? Display    Sets your Background, Appearance, and Backlight Time Out preferences.  ? Tablet and Pen Settings    Changes the screen brightness Power scheme    Changes the 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module  Atom programmable buttons   ? Network Connections    Selects and sets network properties.  ? System    Displays your 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module  Atom system information.   ? Microsoft  Internet  Explorer Microsoft Internet Explorer is designed to provide a rich Internet experience while using a Windows powered device. To launch it , tap on ‘start’ à ‘All Programs’ à ‘Internet Explorer’.   ? Microsoft  RDP This is a terminal services client that allows you to connect your  12” LCD ProScribe Xper module  Atom  to a Microsoft Windows terminal server. To launch it, double click on the ’Remote Desktop Connection’ icon on the desktop.   ? Microsoft Windows Media Player This is a multimedia application that plays audio and video files. For example, you can enjoy MP3 format music or play a MPEG-4 format video clip from a file located on the pad local storage or from the network. To launch it, tap on ‘start’ à’All Programs’ à ‘Windows Media Player’   ? Microsoft WordPad This application allows you to create, open and update simple document files. To launch it, tap on ‘start’ à’All Programs’ à ‘Accessories’ à ‘WordPad’

You can customize three of these hot keys functions with the ‘Tablet and Pen Settings’ applet. ? To run the applet, navigate through: ’start’ à ’Control panel’ à ’Tablet and Pen Settings’ ? Select the ‘Tablet Buttons’ tab ? Select the tablet button to be modified ? Click on the ‘Change’ button ? Select the new Action to be assigned to the button ? Click on ‘OK’  to confirm the button assignment ? Click ‘OK’ to save the new setting  NOTE: Buttons default action: ? Button 1     ( first from top )   à Esc ? Button 2     ( second from top ) à Ctrl+Alt+Del ? Button 3     ( third from top ) à Enter ? Button 4     ( fourth from top ) à OSK    11. EXTRA HARDWARE FEATURES    11.1. CONNECTING EXTERNAL PERIPHERALS The 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom  is ready to go and usually,  does not need any additional peripheral to operate. The 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom can, in case required, be extended with virtually any type of external peripheral thanks to the built-in support of two 2.0 USB ports  NOTE: The Windows WES version of the 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom  might not contain all the required components and drivers required to operate your peripherals. Please visit the website of the supplier to download the missing software items.    11.2. RUGGEDIZED DESIGN Your 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom   is specially designed to withstand to a liquid spill. ? Liquid spill    12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom   meets IP21 requirement for water  resistance.
12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom 23    12. TROUBLESHOOTING  12.1. THE 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom WILL NOT TURN ON... When power is on, you will see: On the pad: Power indicator light above the screen on the right will turn green If power is on, but you still don’t see anything on the screen, wake up the pad by tapping on the screen or by pressing control buttons located on the right hand side of the screen.  If pad does not power on, check that; the AC adapter is plugged into the DC in of the 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom   (D-SUB 9 connector), and make sure that the Adapter is also plugged into the wall socket.  If the preceding steps do not turn the pad on, try restarting the machine: As a last resort remove the power cord , wait ten seconds then insert again the power cord, to switch on the 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom   or try to push the reset switch button located between the 2 USB ports.   12.2. MY SYSTEM DOES NOT RUN SMOOTHLY Poor wireless signal quality or the simultaneous opening of too many applications will cause deterioration in application performance. To free up memory, close applications that are not in use. Check wireless signal quality:  WLAN LED indicator. When the WLAN LED indicator is blue, a wireless signal is available. If signal is weak, try moving closer to your Access Point, or try repositioning the antenna of the access point.  Network icon. Double tap the Network icon on the bar at the bottom of the screen. Choose the Wireless Information tab to show the current connection.   12.3. HOW DO I TURN OFF MY 12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom   To end operation,  click on the  ‘start’ button and then click on the ‘Shut Down’ button to turn off the pad.    12.4. WHEN I USE THE STYLUS PEN... ? System does not respond to taps…    Try tapping the center of an icon, or re-calibrate the touch screen.   ? The mouse arrow is out of alignment…    The mouse arrow does not point to the center of icon as you intend. It might be due to the viewing angle     or the  touch screen may require calibration.  ? Users accustomed to a mouse device use a right click for quick access to command options of an object.    The stylus pen offers a similar command function. Here’s how: See chapter 8.2   NOTE: You might need to practice a couple of time in to operate your screen with taps.
12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom   24    13.  SAFETY AND PRODUCT CARE INSTRUCTIONS  13.1. CLEAN THE SCREEN: ? To removes dust and other particles, wipe the screen with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. ? For heavy duty cleaning, wipe the screen with a soft, clean cloth lightly sprayed with a commercial window cleaner that does not contain wax or abrasives. Always apply the cleaner to the cloth, not the screen. ? If the display contains has become greasy,  use isopropyl alcohol.  NOTE:  Paper towels and other paper product are abrasive. Be sure to use a clean cloth when wiping the screen.   13.2. CLEAN THE CASE: ? For normal cleaning, use a soft, dry cloth. ?  For heavy duty cleaning, apply a small amount of a mild non-abrasive, ammonia-free, alcohol-free detergent onto a clean, soft, lint-free cloth and wipe the case surface.
12” LCD ProScribe Xper module Atom 25    14.  PRECAUTIONS   14.1. Installation precautions The equipment should be installed near an easily accessible outlet. Do not install or leave the monitor: In places subject to extreme temperatures, for example near a radiator, heating vent, or in direct sunlight. Subjecting the LCD monitor to extreme temperatures, could cause deformations of the casing or malfunctions. In places subject to mechanical vibration or shock. Near any equipment that generates a strong magnetic field, such as a TV or various other medical appliances. In places subject to inordinate amounts of dust, dirt, or sand, for example near an open window or an outdoor exit. If setting up temporarily in an outdoor environment, be sure to take adequate precautions against airborne dust and dirt. Otherwise irreparable malfunctions could occur.   14.2. Handling precautions Do not press on or scratch the LCD screen. Do not place a heavy object on the LCD screen. This may cause the screen to lose uniformity or cause LCD panel malfunctions. If the monitor is used in a cold place, a residual image may appear in the screen. This is not a malfunction. The screen returns to normal as the temperature rises to a normal operating level. If a still picture is displayed for a long time, a residual image may appear for a while. The residual image will eventually disappear. The LCD panel becomes warm during operation. This is not a malfunction. Allow adequate air circulation to reduce the LCD panel temperature (eg. on the desk keep it in the base station)    14.3. Maintenance precautions Be sure to unplug the power cord from the mains when cleaning your device. The front polarizer can be easily damaged. Take care not to scratch the front surface with any hard or abrasive material. Dust, finger marks, grease etc. can be removed with a soft damp cloth (a small amount of mild detergent can be used on the damp cloth). Do not apply water or detergent directly to the front surface as this may cause staining or damage the electronic components. Never use any solvent on the front polarizer or module as this may cause permanent damage. Wipe off water drop immediately. Long contact with water may cause discoloration spots. When the panel surface is soiled, wipe it with absorbent cotton or other soft cloth.”   14.4. Transportation precautions Disconnect all cables from the monitor when transporting. When you transport this device, hold the base sections of the display stand firmly in both hands. If you drop the device, you may be injured or the monitor may be damaged. When you transport this device for repair or shipment, use the original cardboard box and packing materials.
