Installation and User Instructions for the GCS USB-DTU ® This leaflet provides user and installation instructions for the Universal Serial Bus (USB) version of the ProxiPen Data Termination Unit (DTU). The unit is equipped with both a 9-pin RS232 port and a USB port, enabling the unit to communicate with a PC running the WinDau or Top Guard software through either port. When using the RS232 port, the unit must be powered from a separate 9Vdc power supply. When using the USB port, power is provided through the USB cable. Installing the DTU If you are using the USB interface, connect a standard A-to-B USB cable to the unit. If you are using the RS232 interface, connect a 9-pin modem-type serial cable to the unit. When using the RS232 interface, an external 9-volt power supply must also be connected to the 2.5mm Jack socket. Using the DTU Communications between the Proxy Pen and DTU is wireless and simply requires the pen to be placed in the cradle at the top of the DTU. To download data from the Proxy Pen, please refer to the Top Guard or WinDau software manual. About the LEDs Power – Lit when you connect the external 9Vdc power supply or USB cable from the PC. Pen – Lit when the Proxy Pen is in the cradle and communicating with the DTU. Modem – Lit if the DTU recognizes a modem connected to its RS232 port. Data – Lit when data is being transferred from the Proxy Pen to the DTU, or vice versa. Online – Lit when you connect the DTU to a PC. If you are connecting via the USB port, the PC must have the Top Guard or WinDau software installed for the LED to illuminate. 9600-0391.
