GETTING STARTED GRAUPNER-HOTT 2.4
1. GENERAL NOTE
When switching on or adjusting the radio control 9/stem it is essential to keep the transmitter aerial at least 15cm away
from the receiver aean at ditimes. if the transmitter aerid is too close to the receiver serials. the receiver will be over-
loaded, causing the red LED on the receiver to light LP. The transmitter responds byemitting a beep once every second;
the red LED also goes out. The radio control system is new in Pal-Safe mode.
lfthis should occm, s‘mply increase the dstance between the aeriab mtil the audible warning signal ceases, and the
red LED on the trmsmitter lig'rts up aga‘n: at the same time the red LED on the receiver should go out.
2. FUNCTIONS
a. Billing
When you wish to use the Gramner HeTT 2.4 GHz receiver with a pertictla' transmitter. the first step mist aways be
to ‘bind' the unit to 'its' Graupner HoTT 2.4 GHz RF module (transmitter) Ttis ‘binding' procedure only needs to be
mrried out once for each combination of receiver and RF modue. The url‘ts stpplied 'n the set are steady bound to
each other at the factory, i.e. the hinting procedure described in the following section only needs to be carried outwhen
you wish to use :1 additional receiver. However, it can dso be repeated at any line if required, e.g. afler diang‘ng
transmfiters. When bhdng is required, this is the procedure:
- Switch the transnitter and receiver on.
- Locate the BIND I RANGE button on the back of the transrritter, and hold it pressed in while you press and hold
the SET button on the receiver. Both LEDs on the back of the trmsmitter new glow constantly, and the red LED on
the receiver flashes.
- Under normd circtmstances the flmhhg red LED on the receiver wil cease to flash and switch to aoonstant green
with aboutten seconds. This ‘nrficates that the binding process is cerrulete. You an no” release both buttons, aid
you trmsmitter/ reoe‘ver combination ‘5 ready for use.
- However. N the red LED on the receiver continues to flash for longer than ten seconds, then the binding process has
filed. it this shotld occur, repeat the whole procedure.
b. Range chucking
The method of meclring the effective rings of the Graupner HoTT 2.4 GHZ system is desuibed below, We recommend
that you adt a lriendto hat: you with this procedure.
After binding the receiver to your transmitter. thch thetransrrl'tter and the receiver on, and wait mtil the green LED on
the receiver Ights up.
Install the bound receiver in the model in its final intended position.
- Sw'nch the RC system on, so that you can observe the mmement ofthe servos.
- Set upthe model on a flat su'tace (pavement, closely moan grass or earth), and ensure that the receiver aerials are
Iomted at least fifteen (In move the ground. This may redu‘re a support for the model.
- Hold the transrn'tter at hit—height, away from you body, butdo not point the aerial diectiy at the model: irstead turn
and / or urge the aerial tip so that it stands vertical, aid keep it there for the titration ofthe range (heck.
- Locate the BIND! RANGE button on the back ofthe trammitter, and press it to initiate rmge-cheok mode. Hold the
button pressed in until the transmitter starts to beep at a regilar rhythm; the red and green LEDs adjacent to the
BIND I RANGE button now flash alternately,
- Walk away from the model, operating the transmitter sticks comtmtly. If you detect m interruption ‘n the I'nk within
a range of mout fifty metres. stand stll and atlerrut to reproduce it
- lithe model '5 fitted with a motor, switch 't on ‘n order to check whether the power system is generat'ng ‘nterfe-
renoe.
- Continue to wflk any from the modd untl you readi the point where perfect control is no longer possible.
- va pressthe BIND I RANGE button on the transmitter once more; thisterminates range-check mode mentally, aid
the model shoud respond nermaly to control commands. If this does not occur with 100% reliability, the system
should not be used. Contact your local Service Departmental Graupner GmbH 8. 03. KG.
- Range-check mode is usualty terminated mamdly when the user presses the BIND I RANGE button. but it termina-
tes automatically after uncut ninety seconds inany case. The red LED now gone oortstantty aga‘n, wtile the green
LED either gows constantly or flashes continuously, aooorting to the Country setthg.
- We recommend that you check effective radio range before every fligrt While you ire carying out the check, s'mu-
Iate at the servo movements which wII take place Mien the model is in flight. The g'ound range rrust aways be at
least fifty metres 'n order to ensure safe, reliable model mntrd,
c. Fail-Sate-tunction
h its de1ault state ias deivered) the receiver is set to ‘Hdd' mode, i.e. W a tail-sate situation occurs, all he servos
connected to it maintain the last position detected as vdid. In this mode the red LED on the receiver lights up when
interlerence ours, and the red LED on the transmitter goes out. The transmitter aso sta'ts beep‘ng about once per
second as m audible warring.
You car exploit the salety potential oi the la‘Lsale option by at least programming the throttle channel to respond to
a lat-sale situation: the throttle channel of an engne-powered model shoud be set to idle, the throttle channel at an
electric-powered model to ‘slop'. aid the throttle charrrel 01 a rmdel helicopter to ‘Hold’. ll interlerence should occur.
these settings will heb prevent the model ltyirvg out 01 control, possibly causing personal iniuy or property damage,
IMPORTANT:
The two functions ‘Bind‘ng' and ‘Range ohedt' described above cm be used regardless at the method you bst em
played to progran the transmitter, i.e. using the progemm'ng button or the Smut-Box; nether cl these two optbns
muses signifmnt changes to the satings saved in the receiver. However, it you call up the Fail~Sale tmction us'ng
the programrrl’ng button as described below, this resets ALL the settings at the Smart-Box at the Fall-Sale screen (RX
FAIL SAFE) - and this ‘ncludes the settings available throum the lacllties olthe Dmrtrnming button.
Switch you receiving system on. Locate the BIND (RANGE button on the badt ofthe transmitter, md hold it pressed
in while you sthch the transmitter on. Release the button amin once It is switched on.
Wu can new cat up the desied Fail—Sale mode (Fat-Safe on loll, Hold, or Standadt by cycfing througr the modeswlth
abriet press ofthe BINDI RANGE button:
- Fail-Sate mode: Mien you pressthe BIND! RANGE button. the tra'rsmltter beeps once; the red and green LEDs
glow constantty.
It is now possible to program positionsto Mridr the servos wil move ina Fail>Safe situation; this occurs alter a'Hold'
period at 0.75 seconds: move the corresponding transmittercontrols istioks, rotary knobs, INC/ DEC buttons etc) to
the desired Fai-Safe positions SIMULTANEOUSLY, then hold the BIND/ RANGE button pressed in tor ”tree to four
seconds. When you release the button, both the red and green LEDs should light up constantly, and thetransmitter
should not emit an audble signd: the transm‘tter now reverts to Control mode. It this does not occu, repeat the
procedure.
- Hold mode (recommended for model hollcopm): when you press the BIND / RANGE button, the oansmitter
beeps twice; the red LED lights up corstantty, and the green LED goes out (lactory default settingt.
It interference occurs, all servos progamrred to ‘Hold' remah at the last position detected by the receiver & correct;
this situation is ma'ntained unti such time as the receiver picks up a new, valid control signal.
You can save your selection by halting the BIND I RANGE button pressed in tor three to tour seconds. When you
release the button, both the red and green LEDs should fight up corstantly, and the transmitter dread not emit an
audible signal: the transmitter no” reve'ts to Control mode. It this does not occu, repeat the procedure.
- Fail-Sat- OFF: Mien you press the Elm I RANGE button, the transmitter beeps three times; the green LED glows
coretmtty. the red LED goes out.
You can save yourselectiorr by holdng the BIND I RANGE button pressed in tor three to tour smonds. When you
release the button. both the red and green LEDs should fight up constantty, and the transmitter aloud not emit an
audible signal: the transmitter now reverts to Control mode. It this does not occu', repeat the procedure.
- Standard mode (sundri- for fixedwthg model IIrcrllt only): Mien you press the BIND/ RANGE button, the
transm'tter beeps lcur times; both LEDs are oil.
In this mode the throttle servo (channel 1) rmves to the Fail-Safe position, is. the position you have programmed tor
a Fail-Sale situation, whle all the other channels rema’n at ‘Hold‘.
Move the throttle stick to the desired position, then hold the BIND I RANGE button pressed it for thee to toil se—
conds. When you release the button, both the red and green LEDs should light up constantly, and the transmitter
should not em't an audble signs: the transrritter now reverts to Control rmde. ll this does not occu', repeat the
procedure
0 Univ-lad : the transmitter beeps once when you press the BIND / RANGE button, and the green LED
ligits up oonstantty.
- Switch the transmitter oil, and remove the programming plug. Do not under any drumstanoee usethe radio oontro
system with the programming plug ‘nsertedl
e. lnitiallaatlon
To irI'tialise the system, i.e, to reset it to the lactory defatlt settings, locate the BIND I RANGE button on the back 01
the transm'tter, hold it pressed in while you switch the trmsmitter on, then release the BINDI RANGE button again.
Now immedatety press and hold the SET button on the receiver, switch it on, and release the SET button again. Alter
about two or tl'ree seconds the geen LED on the receiver lights Ln to confirm that your radio control system has been
reiritldlsed.
Please note:
The initialisation procedu'e erases ALL the settings you have entered. Where necessary, you wil need to program your
preferred settings agah.
When initialsetion is complete, the transmitterwil be in FailSeie programming mode. i.e. you can inmedatety contirue
progamming your Fai-Safe settings, as described ea'lier.
t. Low voltage weming
tithe transmitter voltage ials below 8.0 V, the RF module generates m audbie low voltage wan‘ng in the iorrn ola
steady series of beeps at intervals oi round one second. Thts oocu's lndependentty olthe trammltter sottwa'e.
9 Range warning
tithe receiver signal it the domHlnk channel becomes too weak, the tra'isrn'tter always generates an audible range
warring in the term ola beep emitted about once per second. Since the transmitter's outpm is much ligher man that 01
the receiver. you will stil nainta‘n lul control 01the model, but in the 'nterests oi safety you aloud fly the rmdel back
towards you mtil the wamirg signal oeaes aga'n.
it the audble range wamlng signal does not cease when you reduce the distance, then the transmitter or receiver low
voltage warning is active! In this case you must land the model and cease operations without delay.
h. F'lmware wddte or Smart-Box connection
The Smart-Box is connected to the DATAsocket on the back oltne transm'tter.
Firmware Lndates tor the transmitter RF module can be trmslerred via the DATA or telemetry ‘ntertaae h conjundion
wim a PC naming Windows XP, Vista or 7. For this you also requie the USB interface, Order No 7168.6, and the adap-
ter lead, Order No. 7168.6A. which are ava’lable separately.
2 RECEIVER
a. Low voltage wamlng
it the receiver voltage lals below 3.5 V, the transmitter‘s RF mcdue generates a law mirage weming ‘n the form ofa
‘general alarm sound': a steady beeping at intavals oi maul one second.
b. F'lmwan update:
Firmwa'e updates for the receiver can be transferred “a the wogamrn'ng socka on the side of the m'n. in oohjundion
Mth the USB interiace, Order No. 7168.6, and the adapter lead, Order No. 7168.6A, which are available separately.
