Battery Safety
CAUTION:
To reduce the risk of fire or personal injury, read and follow these instructions:
1. Use only the followmg type and size of battery pack:

independent frequency ranges, or channel, for maximum ranges and clarity. The BASE and HANDSET

Digital Spread Spectrum Technology Advantages
Smart Channel Hopping — During operations, the unit constantly monitors the transmission for
interference. If interference is detected, the phone automatically scans for and hops to the next clear
channel. This hopping is instant and does not interrupt normal conversation.
Maximum Security — The security code is changed every 8 uses, selected from one of 16 million
different codes. This makes interception virtually impossible.

Getting Started
Connecting Your Phone
This section is a reference guide in connecting your cordless telephone for proper operation.
LCarefulIy remove your cordless telephone from its shipping canon, if there is any visible damage, do

2.Be sure that you have all items that come with this cordless telephone system. You should have a
HANDSEE BASE UNIT, AC ADAPTOR, TELEPHONE LINE CORD, ANTENNA, SHORT
TELEPHONE LINE CORD, WALL MOUNT BRACKET and Owner’s Manual
3.Insert one plug of the telephone line cord into the house telephone jack and the other end into the
telephone line jack on the back of the BASE UNIT,
(If you have an older 4-pmng telephone jack. you will need an RJAIIC TELEPHONE JACK
ADAPTOR. Th's adaptor is available at the same plaoe you purchased your telephone )

4.Insert the small plug at the end of the AC ADAPTOR into the POWER-IN connection jack on the back
of the BASE UNIT,
5.Plug the AC ADAPTOR (output : 9VDC, “mum a 120V AC wall outlet,

TRaise the ANTENNA on the BASE UNIT for the best reception.

QATONE/PULSE select switch:
A If your home is equipped with a tone dialing system, set the TONE/PULSE select swttch to the
TONE position.
B. If you have a rotary dialing system. set TONE/PULSE select switch to the PLISE position,
C, If you are not sure which system you have, set the TONE/FULSE select switch to the TONE
position. Press the E button on the HANDSET to get a dial tone, and press any button on the
keypad except the zero. Ifthe dial tone continues, it means that you do not have tone dialing semce.
Press the TALK button on the HANDSET to hang up. Set the TONE/PULSE select switch to the
PULSE mode and then try again,
lO. Thread the RUBBER ANTENNA onto the HANDSET by (tuning clockwise until it IS secure.

Desk Mounting
One of the special feamres of your telephone is the unique design of the MOUNTTNG BRACKET which
can hold your phone at an angle of35 ° when desk mounting. There are three positions to choose from:
LNORMAL POSITION(Mounting Bracket not required)
For Normal Position, place the BASE U'Nl'l' in any desired but suitable location. To charge the
batteries, place the HANDSET in its charge cradle.
24 35 ° POSITION {Mounting Bracket)
With the back of the BASE UNIT facing up, insert the hook of the MOUNTING BRACKET into the
matching slurs of the BASE UNIT.
Wall Mounting
You may choose to mourn the BASE UNIT of your cordless telephone on a walL
1.Wifl| the back of the BASE UNIT facing up, connect the SHORT TELEPHONE LINE CORD to the
telephone lme jack.
Z.Insen the SHORT TELEPHONE LINE CORD through the hole of the MOUNTING BRACKET.
3.1nsert the hooks of (he MOUNTING BRACKET ( marked ”WALL MOUNT’) into the matching
slots of the BASE UNTT ( as shown below), Then slide the MOUNTING BRACKET into place as
indicated by the arrow. Plug the free end of the SHORT TELEPHONE LINE CORD into the
MODULAR JACK
4Alig'n the upper keyhole on the MOUNTING BRACKET with the upper STUD of the wall plate, so
that the opening end of the MOUNTING BRACKET matches the lower stud, then pull the BASE
UNIT down until securely seate¢

How to install the Ni-Céld Better)!
1. Remove thebznery comparunent cover ofthe HANDSET by sliding it down.
2. Plug the battery pack into the battery connector.

3. Replace the battery compartment cover by sliding it up towards the HANDSET.
4. Before use. charge the battery pack for 12 hours.
NOTE: The Ni-Cad battery must full charged at least 12 hours before initial use.
Cordless Telephone Operation
Preparing for Use
Before you use your cordless telephone, you must charge the HANDSET for at least 12 hours. Failure to
do so will require recharging of the battery pack more ofien.
LPIace the HANDSET on the BASE,
2.After 12 hours, retrieve the HANDSET from the BASE UNTL
3.Raise the Antenna for the best reception.
Before you can use your mrdless telephone, you must charge lhe HANDSET for 12 hours. Failure
to do so will require more frequent charging of the battery pack.
NOTE:
If you are far away Ii'om the BASE UNIT, the HANDSET emits a beep sound (every 5 seconds) to warn
you that the background noise level is too high for proper communication between HANDSET and the
BASE U'N'lT. When you hear this sound, you should move closer to the BASE UNIT to reduce the noise
level. OtherWise, the call will automatically cut ofl‘.
Receiving Calls
1. When the plume rings, lift the HANDSET,

3 .To end your conversation, either press the @ button or place the HANDSET on the BASE UNIT.
When the HANDSET is placed on the BASE UNIT charge cradle, the automatic STANDBY feature

Receiving Calls wilh the HANDSET of the BASE UNIT

NOTE:
Once the HANDSET is fully charged, it is operable [or approximately 4 hours of continuous talk use;
approximately 7day when [he HANDSET is left off the BASE UNIT in STANDBY mode with the
RINGER SWITCH in the “ON” position, depending on frequency of use.

The AC ADAPTOR must always be plugged

Planing Calls
Press the TALK button, the IN USE indicator will light up,
Listen for a dial tone.
Dial the phone number
When finished with your call, press the TAL buflon again. The TN USE indicator will be turned afl'.
HANDSET Redial Feature
1. If you get a busy tone. press the TALK button to hang up.
2. Press the TALK button again.
3. Listen for a dial lune.
4. Press the RE’PA button. This will automatically redial the last telephone number you called.

Storlng Telephone Numbers
I. Make sure the HANDSET is in standby mode (IN USE indicator oil),
2. Press the MEMEHhurton on the HANDSET. The IN USE LED will Begin flashing.
3, Enter the telephone number you want to store (maximum of 16 digits).
4. Press the button once again
5. Enter a two-digit memory index number (Ob-20) where you want to store the phone
Number The [N USE LED will stop flashing and you will hear two confimiatiou beeps.
6. Repeat steps 1 to 5 to store additional telephone number.
EXAMPLE : To store the number 555-1212 under the index number I on the keypad :
1— Press the M button. 4 — Press 01 on the keypad.
Z — Dial 555-1212 5 — You have stored 555-1212 under key 1 on the keypad.

A total of 20 telephone numbers can be programmed in memory,
IMPORTANT :
O The maximum number of digits that can be stored [or each phone number is l6 digits in PULSE
or TONE mode, The limit is only 15 digits when using Mixed Mode dialing. An error tone will be
heard if you exceed ihe maximum number of digits that may be s10red in a memory location.
¢ Pauses can be programmed into a memory dialing sequence. Each pause occupies one digit. If you
are using a swuchboard system to access an outside line, press the RE/PA button on the HANDSET
to store a pause.
Q Always Mo-digits(01~20)when storing or recalling memory index numbers.
Recalling 3 Numbers for Memory
It Press the TALK button on the HANDSET and listen for a dial tone.
2. Press the MEM button on flie HANDSET.
3. Enter the index number (0 l~20) on the KEYPAD for the number you have stored.
The stored number will be dialed automatically.
Changing Stored Phone Numbers
1.Follow the steps described in the section “Storing Telephone Numbers”
2,The new phone number will automatically replace the prekus one.
Adjustable HANDSET Volume Control( V / A )
Your can adjust the HANDSET receiver volume by pressing the Vet A button during “Talk" is “ON".
NOTE : The HANDSET Wlil chime when the maximum/minimum limit for adjusting lhe volume level 15

reached. A total of A volume levels are available.
Adjusting HANDSET Ringer Volume
There are only 2 HANDSEI' ringer volume levels available.
LMzke sure that the [N USE light is off.
2. Press the A to set the HANDSET ringer to higher level.
3.I’ress the V to set the HANDSET ringer to lower level.
Out of Rang Detection
If you do use the HANDSET too far away from the BASE UNIT during a call, the HANDSET will alert
you by beeping. Once you hear these wanting beeps, move closer to the BASE UNIT.
Note: If you do not move within several seconds after the fust Out-of-Range warning beeps sounds, the
HANDSET and the BASE UNIT will return to the standby mode.
Low Battery Indication (LOW BATT LED)
If LOW BATT LED indicator on the HANDSET starts flashing or sounds short beeps continually while
in use, return the HANDSEI‘ to the cradle on the BASE UNIT to charge the HANDSET. For a full charge,
please follow the direction described in the section “CHARGlNG THE BATTERY (FULL CHARGE)”.
Intercom Function
The intercom feature allows wireless communications between the base and HANDSET users. The
paging feature is also available as HANDSET locator.
I. From HANDSET to BASE station (Auto Intercom)
a. HANDSET: Press l'N'l‘ button to page the base station The BA SE unit automatically switches to
Intercom mode. The INT LED will be turned on.
b. HANDSET/BASE UNIT : Begin intercom conversation.
c. HANDSET : Press INT button to turn oil'the intercom mode.
2. From BASE unit to HANDSET
as BASE UNIT: Press PAGE/[NT button to page the HANDSET. When paged by the base station, the
HANDSET beeps and the INT/LOW BATT LED flashes.
b.I-IANDSET: Press INT button and begin intercom conversation
c. To turn oil” the intercom, press INT button on the HANDSETI

16 million Combination Digital Security Coding
This phone uses a digital coding security system to prevent unauthorized use of your telephone line by
other cordless phones nearby. This phone has 16 million possible security code combinations, which
are randomly generated every eight times the E button is pressed or the HANDSET is picked up
from the BASE UNIT.
Channel Operation
20 Independent Channel
Unlike other cordless phones reputed to have hundreds of channels (which is deceiving due to channel
overlapping),this phone feature true 20 independent channels. Overlapping channels may increase the
number cf channels, but interference also occurs in multiple channels because of channel overlapping
Your telephone has 20 independent channels that exclusively keep their own space, allowing the auto
scan feature to find the clmest channel before it goes to TALK mode.
Smart Channel flapping
During operation, your phone constantly monitors the transmission for interference. lt' interference is
detected, this phone automatically scans and changes to the next clear channel. This channel hopping is
instant and does interrupt normal ccnvmation.
Resetting Security Code and Channel Information
Communication between the HANDSET and BASE UNIT may be disrupted during the following
situations:
-) Afier a power failure.
—) Afier relocating the BASE UNIT by disconnecting the AC adaptor.
-) Afie’r replacing the HANDSET battery.
—) The HANDSET goes out of range from the BASE UNlT,
Using the Headset Feature
Your telephone can utilize a handsel(not include) to

1. SETTING ANSWER ONIOFF
1) To turn answer mode off,
a. Press the answer curl/off the BASE
b. The BASE will announce.

at The answering machine will answer after the 10th ringing even though the answering mode is off,

6. CHANGING YOUR OGM
1) Changing your OGM is accomplished by replacing the old OGM with a new OGM.

To choose the number of times the phone rings before the system answers, set fire Ring Select Switch to
3K SR or T5 (Toll Saver)
Set to 3K - System answers call on the third ring.
Set to SR - System answers call on the flfih ring.
Set to TS - Use “Toll Saver”(TS) when you will be calling long distance or from a pay phone to
cheek for messages. The system answers on the third rings only if you have messages waiting. If there are
no messages, the phone will answer on the fifth ring You can then hang up on the fourth ring to avoid
paying for the call

and announce, ”End of remote." after short beep.

Problem Solving Section
For your assistance, we have listed below a few common problems.
Phone does not work1 check the following:
I. BASE UNIT is plugged into power source,
2. HANDSET is charged.
3. TONE/PULSE SWITCH is in the right position.
4. LINE CORD is plugged in the jack.
Range of phone limited, check the following:
I. ANTENNA on the BASE UNIT is raised
2. BASE UNIT is cmnally located in your residence.
3. BASE UNIT is not located near appliances.
No dial tone, check the following:
1. Telephone plug is connected to the telephone line.
2. If you had a power failure or had unplugged the BASE UNIT, replace the HANDSET on the BASE
UNIT for 2 to 5 seconds to reset the system.
Received sig nnl flutters or fades, check the following:
1. Battery pack in the HANDSET is fully charged.
2. HANDSE'I‘ is not loo far from the BASE UNIT.
3. ANTENNA on the BASE UNIT is raised.
Interference on reception, check the following:
1. Noise may be picked up from electrical products or cleClflCfll storms. Generally, this noise is a minor
annoyance and should not be interpreted as a defect in your system.
2. Choose an altemale channel using the SCAN button on the HANDSET.
Excess static, check the following:
l. Check to see that the ANTENNA is not touching another metal object. Raise the ANTENNA.
If after pressing the TALK button, you receive three beeps and no dial tone, check the
following:
I. Reset the HANDSEI" by placing it on the BASE UNIT for 2 lo 5 seconds

1. BASE UNIT is plugged into power source.
2. Press and hold the MEMO button on the BASE UNIT and plug the adaptor into the AC wall outlet.

2. Message memory is not full.
Does not respond to remote commands, ensure the following:
1. Correct Remote Access Code is entered,

Messages are Incomplete, ensure the following:

2. Caller may be hesitating and pausing for more than 7 seconds.
Answers calls but does not record messages, cheek the following:
1. ANNC’ICM switch is set to (CM.
2 Memory is not full.
3 Extension telephone was not picked up.
NOTE : If no telephones in the house are working, disconnect one set at a time to verify that none of the
telephones are causing the problem. if you still have a problem after doing this and your telephone still
does not work, please contact your local phone company.
