Gaggia Classic pump Replacement Refer to the parts diagram for part numbers. Tools required: Philips head screw driver Small adjustable wrench Procedure: 1) Make sure that your machine is cold and unplugged before beginning 2) Remove the small rectangular black lid (# 2) that covers the water funnel on the top of the machine. 3) On the back rim of the funnel there are 2 holes. Each hole has a Phillips screw (#1). Remove both screws. 4) The top of the machine is now free (parts # 3 & 4). Pull it straight up and out of the machine. You should now be able to see the internal parts of the Gaggia Classic. 5) The pump (#43) is located in the back/left of the machine. It may be black or orange. 6) Begin by removing the tube that comes from the top of the pump. Use a wrench to loosen the small brass nut (#32). The nut and the tube will come loose from the top of the pump. 7) Next remove the silver elbow (#42) from the top of the pump. Hold the body of the pump steady and use a wrench to loosen the elbow. There is a small o ring (#41) in this area. Make sure that you remove it from the old pump. You will need it in the new pump. 8) Before removing the pump, mark the wires or take a photo so you will reconnect the new pump correctly. 9) Now pull the wires off of the pump. There will be white plastic end covers. Pull on there and not on the wires directly. 10) There is a small wire (#47) securing the pump mount (#44) to the base piece (# 46). Remove the wire by pulling the ends straight up and out of the base piece. 11) The pump mount is not free. Pull the pump out of the open side of the base piece. 12) Remove the hose (#48) from the bottom of the pump by pulling it straight off. 13) Remove the rubber mount (#44) by pulling it straight off of the bottom of the pump as well. 14) Now attach all of the pieces to the new pump. a. At the top of the new pump place the o ring and elbow. b. Replace the pump mount. Press it firmly on to the small lip of the pump c. On the bottom of the pump replace the hose by pressing it firmly into place. 15) Press the new pump back into the base piece through the open side. Make sure that it is pressed all the way in. 16) Replace the wire that secures the pump mount in place. 17) Reconnect the tube and nut to the top elbow of the new pump. 18) Make sure that the soft hose (#48) is pulled down into the area of the water tank. Installing the new pump can shorten the length of the hose in the water tank. 19) Reinstall the top cover of the machine and tighten down the Philips screws.
