Do not use a sharp object to removebatteries. Therefore, uselithium batteries when operating thedevice in below freezing conditions.Installing the NiMH Battery PackThe device operates using the optionalNiMH battery pack (VRPHPRGHOV only) ortwo AA batteries (page 4).1Turn the D-ring counter-clockwise,and pull up to remove the cover.2Locate the battery pack À that camein the product box.3Insert the battery pack, observingpolarity.4Gently press the battery pack intoplace.5Replace the battery cover, and turnthe D-ring clockwise.Charging the Battery PackNOTICETo prevent corrosion, thoroughly dry themini-USB port, the weather cap, and thesurrounding area before charging orconnecting to a computer.Do not attempt to use the device tocharge a battery that was not provided byGarmin®. Before you can connect the straightconnector of the USB cable to yourdevice, you may have to remove optionalmount accessories.NOTE: The battery will not charge whenoutside the temperature range of 32 to122°F (0 to 50°C).You can charge the battery using astandard wall outlet or a USB port on yourcomputer.1Pull up the weather cap À from themini-USB port Á.2Plug the small end of the USB cableinto the mini-USB port.3Plug the USB end of the cable into theAC adapter or a computer USB port.4Plug the AC adapter into a standardwall outlet.When you connect the device to apower source, the device turns on.5Charge the battery completely.Installing AA BatteriesInstead of the optional NiMH battery pack(page 3), you can use two alkaline, NiMH,or lithium batteries. This is useful whenyou are on the trail and cannot charge theNiMH battery pack. Thetrack log contains information aboutpoints along the recorded path, includingtime, location, and elevation for eachpoint.Customizing Your Track LogYou can customize how your devicedisplays and records tracks.1Select Setup > Tracks > Track Log.2Select Record, Do Not Show orRecord, Show On Map.If you select Record, Show On Map,a line on the map indicates your track.Do Not Record disables tracklogging.3Select Record Method.4Select an option:• To record tracks at a variable ratethat creates an optimumrepresentation of your tracks,select Auto.• To record tracks at a specifieddistance, select Distance.• To record tracks at a specifiedtime, select Time.5Select Interval.6Complete an action:• If you selected Auto for theRecord Method, select an optionto record tracks more or less often.NOTE: Using the Most Ofteninterval provides the most trackdetail, but fills up the devicememory quicker.• If you selected Distance or Timefor the Record Method, enter avalue, and select  .Navigating Using TracBack®While navigating, you can navigate backto the beginning of your track. Camera and PhotosYou can take photos with the O$+*7PRGHOV. When you take a photo, thegeographic location is automaticallysaved in the photo information.
