System Requirements • Windows® 98 SE or higher • CD-ROM drive 3. Special Mouse Functions • To turn your mouse off while traveling, press and hold the scroll wheel button. While pressing the scroll wheel button, press the link button on the bottom of the mouse. To turn the mouse on repeat this process. • The mouse will go to sleep when idle for a long period of time to save batteries. To wake the mouse, press any mouse button. • When the Low Battery LED (located near the scroll wheel) is illuminated, change the batteries. See Section 4. You will need to re-link your mouse. See Section 5. Page 3 4. Battery Installation FRONT BACK PRESS PULL HERE Battery Compartment Cover 1) Grip the front of the mouse (the end with the buttons) with your left hand. 2) With your right hand hold the back of the mouse (end opposite the buttons) with your thumb on the bottom, and your index finger and middle finger resting on top. 3) Grip the mouse firmly, pressing down slightly on the GE logo on top of the mouse with the index and middle finger of your right hand, then pull back to release the battery cover. 4) Set the battery compartment cover aside. Insert 2 AAA batteries, being sure to match the polarity of the batteries with the polarity markings inside the battery compartment. 5) Replace the battery compartment cover. 6) Re-link your mouse. See Section 5. Page 4 5. Hardware Installation Please keep these directions in a safe place. Each time you replace the batteries you will need to re-link your mouse. 1) Insert the enclosed batteries into the battery compartment of your mouse following the directions in Section 3. 2) Plug the Optical Mini Mouse receiver into an available USB port on your computer or USB hub. It is not necessary to reboot your computer. 3) If prompted, insert your Windows disk and follow the on screen instructions. (This step is not necessary for all operating systems. Your system will prompt you if it is necessary.) 4) Press the link button on your receiver. 5) Press the link button on the bottom of your mouse. 6) Your mouse should now function normally. Move your mouse to test functionality. Page 5 6. Software Installation The mouse will function normally without the included software. The software is only necessary to program the function of the scroll wheel. It is always a good idea to back up your system before adding any new software to your computer. 1) Uninstall any previously installed third-party mouse software. DO NOT uninstall the standard Microsoft mouse driver. To do this, please consult the user’s manual for your existing software. (In most cases you will use “Add/Remove Programs” in the Control Panel. The Control Panel is located in the Start Menu. In some operating systems, the Control Panel is located under “Settings” in the Start Menu.) 2) Close all open applications, then insert the included CD into your CD drive. Page 6 3) If the CD does not run automatically, open My Computer. Double-click on your CD Drive. Double-click on Setup. The CD should run. 4) Follow the on screen instructions to complete the software installation a) Select “English” and click Next. Page 7 b) Click Next on the Welcome Screen. Page 8 c) Click Next to select the default destination directory. Page 9 d) Click Next to select the default program folder. Page 10 e) Click Next to start copying files. f) Wait while files are copied to your computer. Page 11 g) When prompted, click Finish to restart your computer. Page 12 5) To change settings for your mouse, double click on the mouse ) that appears in the system tray in the lower right icon ( corner of the screen. From this menu you can: a) Change the scroll settings Page 13 b) 6) Program the function of the scroll button. • Select a function from the drop down menu. • Click Apply followed by OK. You can change the standard mouse functions by double clicking on the Mouse icon in the Control Panel. Page 14 7. Uninstall Mouse Software You have two choices. Follow either Method 1 or Method 2. Method 1 1) Right-click on the mouse icon in the system tray (lower right corner of the screen) and click Exit. 2) Close all open applications. 3) Open the Start Menu by clicking on Start in lower left corner of the screen. 4) Click on Programs or All Programs. 5) Click on Browser Mouse. If you cannot locate Browser Mouse here, go on to Method 2. 6) Click on Uninstall Browser Mouse. 7) Follow the on-screen instructions. 8) Click Next to continue. 9) Click Finish to restart your computer. Page 15 Method 2 1) Right-click on the mouse icon in the system tray (lower right corner of the screen) and click Exit. 2) Close all open applications. 3) Open the Start Menu by clicking on Start in lower left corner of the screen. 4) Open the Control Panel (sometimes located under Settings). 5) Open Add/Remove Programs 6) Click on Browser Mouse. 7) Click on Remove. 8) Follow the on-screen instructions. 9) Click Next to continue. 10) Click Finish to restart your computer. Page 16 8. Trouble Shooting • The Mini Optical Mouse does not work properly ¾ Optical mice do not work well on glass or highly reflective surfaces. If this applies to you, try using your mouse on a different surface. ¾ If your mouse has been idle for a period of time it may be asleep to conserve battery power. Press the left mouse button to wake it. ¾ Re-link your mouse. Press the link button on the receiver. Press the link button on the bottom of your mouse. ¾ Make sure all other mouse software has been removed from your PC. Follow Step 1 of Section 6. ¾ Right-click on the mouse icon in the system tray and click Exit. Uninstall the mouse software following the directions in Section 7. Reinstall the mouse software following the directions in Section 6. Page 17 • Other application software will not install properly This may be due to the Mini Optical Mouse Software. Remove the software as described in Section 7. Install the other application. Reinstall the Mini Optical Mouse Software as described in Section 6. • Scrolling left & right does not work smoothly Your operating system may not support this function. • Mouse will not move ¾ Press your left mouse button to wake your mouse. ¾ Re-link your mouse. See section 5. ¾ Sometimes screen savers interfere with the wake feature. Turn off your screen saver. If the mouse works, try using a different screen saver. ¾ Change the batteries on your mouse. See section 4. ¾ Not all laptops support USB mice. Test the mouse on a desktop computer. If this works, contact your laptop dealer. Page 18 9. Five Year Limited Warranty Jasco Products Company warrants this product to be free from manufacturing defects for a period of five years from the original date of consumer purchase. This warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of this product only and does not extend to consequential or incidental damage to other products that may be used with this unit. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties express or implied. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts or permit the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
