To power the handset, install the battery and charge it for about 24 hours before initial use. Notice: If your home has specially wired alarm equipment connected to telephone line, ensure the installation of this [equipment ID] does not disable your alarm equipment. Calls are transmitted between the base unit and the handset using wireless radio waves. On bottom of this equipment is a label that contains, among other information, a product identifier in the format US:AAAEQ##TXX.If requested, this number must be provided to the telephone company. 2. An applicable certification jacks Universal Service Order Code(USOC) for the equipment is provided(i,e., RJ11C) in the packaging with each piece of approved terminal e quipment. 3. A plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premise wiring and telephone network must comply with the applicable FCC Part 68 rules and requirements adopted b y the ACTA. A compliant telephone cord and modular plug is provided with this product. It is designed to be connect to a compatible modular jack that is also compliant. See installation i nstructions for details. 4. The REN is used to determine the number of devices that may be connected to telephone line. Excessive RENs on a telephone line my result in the devices not ring in response to an incoming call. In most but not all areas, the sum of RENs should not exceed five(5.0). To be certain of the number of devices that may be connected to a line, as determined b y the total RENs, contact the local telephone company. [ For products approved after July 23,2001, the REN for this product is part of the product identifier that has the format US:AAAEQ##TXX. The digits represented by ## are the REN without a decimal point(e.g., 03 is a REN of 0.3). For earlier products, the REN is separately shown on the label.] 5. Charge pins 26 Important safety instructions When using your telephone equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury to persons, including following items: Belt clip 1.Please understand all instructionsin the operation manual. 2. Follow allwarnings a nd instructions markedonthis unit. 3. Unplug this unit from wall outlets and telephone jacks before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for the job. Volume and tone receiving select switch 4. Do not use this unit near water, for example, near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink. If the unit comes in contact with any liquid, cut the power and unplug cords immediately. Do n ot reconnect the u nitbefore totally dried. 5. Put this unit securely on a stable surface. Serious damage m ay result from falling. 6. Do not cover slots and openings of the unit, they are needed for ventilation and protection against overheating. Put the unit where no one can step on the cord. 25 Installation If you hear noise or static, during a p hone conversation Move closer to the base unit. keep the base unit away from PCS, family videos, game and fax machines. Press the "CH." key to switch to another channel. The T V or VCR picture becomes distorted while talking Remove the base unit as far away from the T V or VCR as needed. Interference and noise on line Move away from TV, VCR, computers, fax machines, electronic equipment and other motoric device. If theLOWBATTERY indicator is on display The battery needs recharge. If the battery is recharging Never touch the battery contacts on the base unit and handset with sweaty or the battery contactsmay result in charging failure. If thishas happened, clean them with Cleaned cloth orswab. Base unit Connect the telephone line and the power. Or the handset is out of registration. Place the handset On the base cradle. Move closer to the base unit or place the handset on the base cradle. Try again a few seconds later. If the phone does not ring when you receive a call Make sure the telephone line cord is connected firmly to the base unit andthe telephone jack. Make sure the AC adaptor is pluggedintoanoutletandthe wall switch ison. Your phone may be too far away from the base unit. Move closer to the base unit. You may have too m any extension phones on your telephone line to allow all of them to ring. Try unplugging some of the other phones. 23 (3) Slide the cover back until it clicks into place. Deleting a single CallerIDnumber LCD Informations 1. Press s or t button, the LCD shows the totalnumber of CID numbers and new numbers.(ALL XXNEW XX) Description: In standby mode: In this mode, the LCD will show the handset number, date and realtime. 2. Press s or t button to find out thenumber yo u want to delete. 3. Press R button twice to delete the number. 00: 47 01/01 Call IDon callwaiting HS-1 INUSEindicator: After pressing button, the TALK will turn on, in use indicator on base unit and handset will be bright steadily, which indicates that theunit is in usemode. T he timer willturnonafterabout6seconds. NEW call: If there are new calls in memory, the NEW icon will turn on and flash. After all the newcalls havebeen reviewed, the iconwillturnoff. When you have subscribed to call waiting service from your local telephone company, this telephone can indicate the name and number of the second caller while you are having a conversation with the first caller. You can press R button to answer the 2nd caller. After the call, you can press this button oncemoretocontinuethefirstconversation. REPEAT icon: If the call comesrepeatedly, the RPT icon w ill turn on. Batteryindicator: If the battery islow, the battery lowiconwillshow as END OF LIST This message will display when reaching the top (end) of the phone book or Caller ID list byusingthe s or t button. PRIVATE If the caller hasexercised the option to prevent hisnumber from being sent, itwill be shown on the screen. 22 Press 1 button to dial the number with the 1 digit. TALK Press 7 button to dial the last 7 d igits of the number. TALK Press 8 button to dial the last 8 digits of the number. OUTOFAREA This message willdisplay when some one calls f rom an area where the telephone company is not offering the caller identification services or is not yet providing name and number delivery to your area via thelong distancenet work. ERROR If there are some error information in the incoming number or your telephone cannot receive the information correctly, the LCD will show ERROR.Thisdoesnotmeanthatthereis a fault with your phone. MESSAGE WAITING If you have voice mail service from your telephone company and a recorded message is left, the "MESSAGE " will turn on and f lash. You can press R button twice to delete the icon. NOTE: This function should be supported by your local telephone company. TALK Deleting all Caller ID numbers 1. Press s or t button, the LCD shows the total number of Caller ID numbers and new numbers.(ALL XXNEWXX ) 2. Press R button twice todelete all of the Caller IDnumbers. 21 10 Handset Settings Caller ID Operation Handset registration Reviewing the Caller ID list 1. Make sure the base unit is connected into the AC outlet and line jack. 1. Press s or t button, the LCD shows the total number of Caller ID numbers andnewnumbers.(ALL XX NEW XX) 2. Press and hold the button on the base unit. After 3 seconds, press the CH CODE button on the handset, the unit will give you a confirmation beep, which means that the code has been set and the handset will show HS -1 on the LCD. 2. Press s or t button to review the other caller numbers. 3. If you have more than one handset, press the CH CODE button on the handset until you get a beep and display HS -2 . Continue the same procedure, if you have the third handset. If not, release the button from the base unit. Dialling the C aller ID numbers During the reviewing mode, press # button to dialled out the number showedonthe LCD. If the Caller ID number exceeds 8 digits, you can dial the number as above or in other4 ways a s follows.(e.g. thenumber is 34567890123 ) NOTE: The button on the base unit should be kept pressing during the whole procedure. JOHN BULL IMPORTANT NOTICE: The base unit and the handset have been set code already. Setting Press 0 button to dial the number with the 0 digit. In standby mode, press EDIT TRANS button once, then the LCD will show PROGRAM to indicate you enter the setting mode. Area code setting Press EDIT TRANS button, then 1 button, and then the LCD will show AREA CODE. Enter the number (up to 4 digits) by keypad (you can press R button to delete the error digits) and press EDIT TRANS button once more to confirm. A confirmation beep will be heard. 11 TALK 20 2. Press button to dial itout. Deleting all records form phone book 1. In standby mode, press MEMO button, then the LCD shows the total number of records. 2. Press R buttontwice, then all of the recordswillbedeleted. Deleting a single record form phone book 1. Find o ut the record youwant to delete. Please see "Reviewing names and numbers inphone book"for details. 2. Press R buttontwice, then the record will bedeleted. VIP and REJECT function If you store a name ending with *, itwill be a VIP number. If you s tore a name endingwith #, itwillbea REJECT number. When a VIP number is received, the ringer will ring though the ringer function on handset is deactivated. When a REJECT number isreceived, the ringer will not ring though the ringerfunctionon handset is activated. 19 e.g. If you store the area code number 0592, and the incoming call number i s 05926036442, the LCDwillonly show 6036442. LCD contrast setting Press EDIT TRANS button, then 2 button, and then the current level contrast adj X(X=1,2,3,4) will show on the LCD. Press s or t button to get the desired level and press EDIT TRANS button once more to confirm and exit. Ringer setting Press EDIT TRANS button, then 3 button, and then the current mode RING ON/OFF will show on the LCD. Press s or t button to activate/deactivate the ringer function. Press EDIT TRANS button once more to confirm and exit. A confirmation beep will be heard. Time setting Press EDIT TRANS button, then 4 button, and then the SET TIME will show on the LCD and the digit for MONTH will flash. Press s or t button to get the desired digit then press EDIT TRANS button to confirm and enter the next item(the sequence is MONTH-DAY-HOURMINUTE). After the setting, press EDIT TRANS button to confirm and a confirmation tone will be heard. Receiving volume and tone setting You can increase the volume and adjust the receiving tone according to your own hearing requirements. The volume and tone receiving select switch in the battery compartment allow extra-receiving and tone function to be activated or not during the conversation. If you turn the volume and tone receiving select switch up, the amplify function will be active and the LED indicator will lit up, you can adjust the receiver tone and receiver volume button to get the desired receiving level. 12 NOTE: 1.If you turn the volume and tone receiving select switch UP, the amplify function are automatically activated each time you use the phone. If you want to deactivate the function temporarily, press the amplify button once, at the same time, the LED turns off. 2.If you turn the volume and tone receiving select switch down, the amplify function are automatically deactivated each time you use the phone, you will need to activate the function temporarily by pressing the amplify button. Vibration function You can turn the shaking switch to up station, when a call is receiving, the handset will shake. To turn off this function, just turn the shaking switch to down station. Flash function When a call is receiving, the LED indicator will flash. a. Press s or t button toreviewthe records. b. Enter the caller's name, then press MEMO button to review the matching record. c. Enter the first character of the caller's name, then press MEMO button. The LCD shows the matching records, press s or t button to get yourdesired record. Modifying names and numbers in phonebook 1. Find out the record you want to modify. Please see "Reviewing names and numbers in phone book"for details. 2. Press EDIT TRANS button to enter the modifying mode, the last digit of the numberflashes. 3. Enter the new number by keypad. If necessary, press R button to delete the error digits. 4. Press MEMO button to c onfirm andenter thename m odification. 5. Enterthe new name by keypad. If necessary,press R button to delete the error characters. 6. Press MEMO button to confirm and a confirmation sound will be heard. Dialling a number from phone book 1. Find out the record you want to dial. Please see "Reviewing names and numbers in phone book"for details. 13 18 Phone Book Basic Function Storing names and numbers to phone book To make a call You canstoreup to 60namesandnumbers in thememory. 1. Adding names and numbers to phone b ook: 1. Instandby mode, input the number you want tostore by keypad. 1. Press 2. Press MEMO button and then the LCD will s how name. 3. Enter the name by keypad. If thenextcharacterison the same button as the previous one, you need to for about 2 seconds before entering the next character. You can press R button todelete the error characters. 4. Reviewing names and numbers in phone book In standby mode, press MEMO button, then the LCD shows the total number of records. Then t here are 3 ways to review the records: 17 2. If the phone number is correct, press button and It will be dialled automatically. Then you canstartyourconversation. 14 Last number redial Press Out of range warning button, then p ress button to redial the lastdialled number. CH CODE button During the conversation, the phone will scan the clear channel automatically. If you s till hear noise or static, press the CH CODE button to findaclearer channel. NOTE: It takes about 2 seconds f or the unit to scan a channel. Pause function This function allows you to insert a temporary pause during dialling sequence. For example, dialling an international number (e.g. 011-88622-795-1234), some telephone company systems will not register the entire number entry w ithout a pause between the prefix numbers. You may have to dial 011, dial 886 . This allows adequate timing for the phone number to register with the telephone company's system andcomplete the call. Keys confirmation tone In talk mode, if the handset is too far away from base unit, an out of range warning tone will be heard. The user should move closer to the base unit. If not, the handset will automatically return to standby mode after about 20 seconds. When the handset makes a noise, press button to return to standby mode. Line transfer If extrahandsets are set to the base unit 1. During a phone conversation, press EDIT TRANS button and handset number. The line will be hold andmakemusic sounds to the other end, the two handsets will make transfer ring. 2. The other handset can press any key to answer the call automatically after receiving the transferring. 3. Press button to return the connection to the call if the other handset user does not want to take the call during the transfer ring. 4. If the two handsets do not respond within 30 seconds, the line will disconnect automatically. When the user presses keys on the handset, a key confirmation tone will begenerated. Paging Battery low warning and shutdown protection 1. Press the Once the battery voltage is low, the low battery icon will turn on. The low battery warning tone will also be generated if the handset is i n talk mode. You just press button to return to standby mode, then put it o n the base or charger torecharge. 2. Press 15 button topagethehandset. button oncemoretocancelthepagingoperation. 3. If you do not press button again, the handset will ring for about 25 seconds thenendthepagingautomatically. 16
