Important Information on Safe and Efficient Operation
Read This Information Before Using Your Radio.
The information provided in this document supersedes the general safety
information in user guides published prior to December 1, 2002.
Transmit and Receive Procedure
Your two-way radio contains a transmitter and a receiver. To control your
exposure and ensure compliance with the general population/uncontrolled
environment exposure limits, always adhere to the following procedure:
• Transmit no more than 50% of the time.
• To transmit (talk), press the Push to Talk (PTT) button.
• To receive calls, release the PTT button.
Transmitting 50% of the time, or less, is important because the radio generates
measurable RF energy exposure only when transmitting (in terms of measuring
standards compliance).
Exposure To Radio Frequency Energy
Your Motorola two-way radio complies with the following RF energy exposure
standards and guidelines:

To assure optimal radio performance and make sure human exposure to radio
frequency electromagnetic energy is within the guidelines set forth in the above
standards, always adhere to the following procedures.
Portable Radio Operation and EME Exposure
Antenna Care
Use only the supplied or an approved replacement antenna. Unauthorized
antennas, modifications, or attachments could damage the radio and may violate
FCC regulations.
DO NOT hold the antenna when the radio is “IN USE.” Holding the antenna affects
the effective range. 3

Two-way Radio Operation
When using your radio as a traditional two-way radio, hold the radio
in a vertical position with the microphone 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm)
away from the lips.
Body-Worn Operation
To maintain compliance with FCC/Health Canada RF exposure guidelines, if
you wear a radio on your body when transmitting, always place the radio in a
Motorola-supplied or approved clip, holder, holster, case, or body harness for
this product. Use of non-Motorola-approved accessories may exceed FCC/Health
Canada RF exposure guidelines.
If you do not use one of the Motorola-supplied or approved body-worn accessories,
and are not using the radio held in the normal use position, ensure the radio and
its antenna are at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) from your body when transmitting.
Data Operation
If applicable, when using any data feature of the radio with or without an accessory
cable, position the radio and its antenna at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) from the body.

• Use the ear opposite the pacemaker to minimize the potential for interference.
• Turn the radio OFF immediately if you have any reason to suspect that
interference is taking place.
Medical Devices - Hearing Aids
Some digital wireless radios may interfere with some hearing aids. In the event
of such interference, you may want to consult your hearing aid manufacturer to
discuss alternatives.
Other Medical Devices
If you use any other personal medical device, consult the manufacturer of your
device to determine if it is adequately shielded from RF energy. Your physician
may be able to assist you in obtaining this information.
Safety and General Use While Driving
Check the laws and regulations on the use of radios in the area where you drive.
Always obey them. When using your radio while driving, please:
• Give full attention to driving and to the road.
• Use hands-free operation, if available.
• Pull off the road and park before making or answering a call if driving
conditions so require.

Operational Warnings
For Vehicles with an Air Bag
Do not place a portable radio in the area over an air bag or in the air bag
deployment area. Air bags inflate with great force. If a portable radio is placed in
the air bag deployment area and the air bag inflates, the radio may be propelled
with great force and cause serious injury to occupants of the vehicle.
Potentially Explosive Atmospheres
Turn off your radio prior to entering any area with a potentially explosive
atmosphere, unless it is a radio type especially qualified for use in such areas as
“Intrinsically Safe.”
Do not remove, install, or charge batteries in such areas. Sparks in a potentially
explosive atmosphere can cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or
even death.
Note: The areas with potentially explosive atmospheres referred to above include
fueling areas such as below decks on boats, fuel or chemical transfer or
storage facilities, areas where the air contains chemicals or particles, such
as grain, dust, or metal powders, and any other area where you would
normally be advised to turn off your vehicle engine. Areas with potentially
explosive atmospheres are often but not always posted.

Blasting Caps and Areas
To avoid possible interference with blasting operations, turn off your radio
when you are near electrical blasting caps, in a blasting area, or in areas posted:
“Turn off two-way radio.” Obey all signs and instructions.
Operational Cautions
Antennas
Do not use any portable radio that has a damaged antenna. If a damaged
antenna comes into contact with your skin, a minor burn can result.
Batteries
All batteries can cause property damage and/or bodily injury such as burns if
a conductive material such as jewelry, keys, or beaded chains touch exposed
terminals. The conductive material may complete an electrical circuit (short
circuit) and become quite hot. Exercise care in handling any charged battery,
particularly when placing it inside a pocket, purse, or other container with
metal objects.

Save these Instructions
1. Do not expose the charger to rain or snow.
2. Do not operate or disassemble the charger if it has received a sharp blow,
or has been dropped or damaged in any way.

3. Never alter the AC cord or plug provided with the unit. If the plug will not fit
the outlet, have the proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. An
improper condition can result in a risk of electric shock.
4. To reduce the risk of damage to the cord or plug, pull the plug rather than the
cord when disconnecting the charger from the AC receptacle.
5. To reduce the risk of electric shock, unplug the charger from the outlet before
attempting any maintenance or cleaning.
6. Use of an attachment not recommended or sold by Motorola may result in a
risk of fire, electric shock, or personal injury.
7. Make sure the cord is located so it will not be stepped on, tripped over, or
subjected to damage or stress.
8. An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely necessary. Use of an
improper extension cord could result in a risk of fire and/or electric shock. If an
extension cord must be used, make sure that:
• The pins on the plug of the extension cord are the same number, size and
shape as those on the plug of the charger.
• The extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition.
• The cord size is 18 AWG for lengths up to 100 feet, and 16 AWG for lengths
up to 150 feet.

Installing the Batteries
Your radio uses three AAA alkaline batteries.
To install or replace the batteries:
1. Turn the device off.
2. Use your thumb or a coin to wedge the battery
cover open.
3. Insert fresh batteries as shown on the inside of
the battery compartment.
4. Replace the battery cover.
Low Battery Alert
A battery meter is located in the upper right corner
of the T5MP3’s LCD display. This shows how much
battery capacity is remaining. The device will beep
to alert you to the fact that your batteries are low.

Turning the Device On and Off
To turn on, press and hold the On/Off-Play button for three seconds.
A channel number will appear and the radio will beep. The T5MP3 will start
in the two-way radio mode.
To turn off, press and hold the On/Off-Play button for three seconds. The LCD
screen will go blank and the radio will beep.
Adjusting the Volume
Press to increase or to decrease the volume. The volume level is shown
on the bottom left-hand side of the LCD display as you adjust the setting.
Using the Arm Holster (T5MP3CE/R)
Your T5MP3 includes a holster so you can carry it easily on your arm. Slide the
T5MP3 into the holster. Wrap the straps around your arm and adjust the Velcro
until it is snug but comfortable.
Charging the Unit
Your T5MP3 includes a cable that is used for charging the battery. Simply plug
one end of the cable into the unit and the other into the power supply. The device
will then immediately begin to charge with the message “Charging” and charge
battery indicator appearing on the screen. When charging is complete, the message
“Complete” and a solid battery will appear on the screen. While the unit is charging,
all button operation on the handset is disabled. Once the cable is disconnected from
the T5MP3 unit, the device will immediately return to the previous state.

Selecting the Channel
The channel is the frequency your radio uses to transmit. Your radio has
22 channels.
1. Briefly press and release the button. The channel number flashes.
2. Press or to select a channel.
3. Press to confirm.

Talking
To talk, press and hold the button. Your radio will transmit on the current
selected channel. When you are finished talking, release .
For maximum transmitted sound clarity, hold the radio two to three inches away
from your mouth and speak directly into the microphone.
Monitor
Pressing will allow you to listen to the current channel as long as you hold
down that button.
Listening
When your T5MP3 is in two-way standby mode, the speaker automatically will
un-mute the speaker if it receives a signal on a frequency that matches selected
channel. While receiving, the LED indicates that the channel is busy.
Sending a Call Tone
A call tone alerts others that you want to talk. To send out a call tone to other
radios in your group, press .
Selecting a Call Tone
Press twice. Then select or and stop on the number of your choice to
select one of ten available call tones.

Scanning Channels
Use scanning to monitor channels for transmissions or to find someone in your
group who has accidentally changed channels.
1. Press and scanning begins.
2. When the radio detects channel activity, it stops scanning and you can hear the
transmission. To respond, press within five seconds.
3. Press to stop scanning and return to previously selected channel.
Locking the Keypad
To avoid accidentally changing your radio settings, press three times. Push
the or to select “yes.” The will be displayed on your screen. When in
lock mode, you cannot adjust the volume but all other functions work as usual.
To unlock the radio, press three times. Push the or to select “no.”
The will no longer be displayed.
Switching Modes
When you turn on your T5MP3, it automatically starts in the two-way radio mode.
To switch from either two-way radio to MP3 mode or from MP3 mode back to
two-way radio mode, press for more than three seconds.
If you are in MP3 mode when you switch over to two-way radio mode, the song
stops playing and returns to the last track in memory.

Downloading Music
The T5MP3 supports Windows 2000, Windows ME and Windows XP only.
Your T5MP3 includes a cable that is used for downloading music. Simply plug
one end of the cable into the T5MP3 unit, and the other end plugs into the USB
port on your computer. The device will then immediately enter into download
status, with the message “Connected” appearing on your screen. All button
operation on the handset is disabled while you are downloading.
You may save the music that you download in two different ways:
1. The T5MP3 comes equipped with a 16MB internal Flash memory.
2. You can copy MP3 files directly to an external SD card with a compatible SD
card reader. Insert it into the built-in memory card slot. This unit will accept up
to a 256MB card (see page 25 for a description of accessories).
To end your downloading session, unplug the cable from the USB port. The
T5MP3 will return to its previous status.
Music Sources
Both internal Flash memory and SD card memory tracks will be playable. If
both internal and external memory sources are detected, the files from the
Flash memory will be used first.

Note that if you pull out the SD card while a song track is playing from that
source, the current track will stop and:
• The next track from the internal Flash memory will begin to play; or
• If no song is detected from the Flash memory, playback will stop.
Listening to Music
Pushing when in MP3 mode will play the first song on your list. The Play icon
will be displayed on the screen, and the song name will scroll from right to the left.
The played time of the current track is also shown.
Pressing will pause the current song from playing. Pressing the button once
again restarts your song.
To skip to the next song on your play list, press the button.
One press of puts you in the playback mode. Press the or button to choose:
• RPT-A — plays all of your songs in the order they are saved.
• RPT-1 — repeats one song over and over again.
• RDM — chooses various songs at random and plays them.
• RPG — allows you to program your song selections.
Your selection will be displayed below the words “MP3 Player.”

Your Playback List
A short press of adds the current song into your playback list. Use the or
button to scroll your playback list. A short press of will delete the song from
your playback list. After programming, an extended press of saves and updates
your playback list.
Searching for Songs
While in standby state, a short press of the button will search for the next track
on your song list. If you press and hold , you can scroll forward through your
songs until the button is released.
Similarly, a short press of searches for the previous track when in standby
state. Pressing and holding scrolls through your songs in reverse until you
release the button.
Musical Genres
You may listen to songs based on musical style. Press two times to scroll to
various musical genres:
• Normal (Norm)
• Rock (Rock)
• Jazz (Jazz)
• Classical (Clas)
• Pop (Pop)
Make your selection by pressing the or button. Your choice will be displayed
in the upper left corner of your screen.

What will Giant International Ltd. Do? Giant International Ltd., at its option,
will at no charge repair, replace or refund the purchase price of any Products,
Accessories or Software that does not conform to this warranty. We may use
functionally equivalent reconditioned/refurbished/pre-owned or new Products,
Accessories or parts. No data, software or applications added to your Product,
Accessory or Software, including but not limited to personal contacts, games
and ringer tones, will be reinstalled. To avoid losing such data, software and
applications please create a back up prior to requesting service.
