Introduction
UgMO™monitorssoilmoistureintherootzonesofyourplants.UgMOsaveswater
andimprovesplanthealthbylimitingoverwateringforlawnsandornamental
plantings.TheUG400SpairedwithUG1000controllersorPH100‐Bdeviceswill
enablewatersavingsusingsmartirrigationalgorithms.
UgMOwirelesssensorshaveapatentedelectronicmoistureandoptionalsalinity
sensingcircuitandlowpowerradiosignal.
Twouniquelyconfiguredbatteries(suppliedandinstalled)provideanoperatinglife
ofupto5years.
UgMOdevicesareweatherresistantforoutdooruse.WirelessSensorsareburiedat
depthsfrom1”to4”accordingtoplantandsoiltypesandoperateatdistancesup
to600feet,dependingonsoiltype,depth,andlineofsitetotheBaseStation.UgMO
sensorsareeasytoinstall,effectiveandlonglasting.Itisnotuncommonforatypical
hometoreducewaterusebyasmuchas45%.
UgMOUG400Ssensorisanewgenerationofwirelesssensorsthatisdesignedtobe
compatiblewiththeexistingProHomeandUG1000productline.
TheUG400SisadirectreplacementforPH100‐WSsensors.
Thedeviceisintendedforinstallationunderground.Ithasaon/offswitchthatis
activatedbymeansofturningthebatterydooronequarterturn.Thedevicewillnot
senseanythingforthefirstminuteafterpowerup,allowingthedevicetobe
insertedinpositionunderground.
Compatibility
UG400S is compatible with PH100-R, PH100-B and UG1000 devices.
InstallingtheSensor
Placethesensorsontopofthegroundinthecorrespondingzonesthatthey
representfortheassociatedabovegroundUgMOdevice(RefertomanualsforUgMO
PhoMOandUG1000devicesformoredetail).Theideallocationineachzoneis
betweensprinklerheads,inthedriestpartofthezoneandwiththeclearestlineof
sighttotheabovegrounddevicewhenatallpossible.Thesensorsshouldbeplaced
perpendiculartotheabovegrounddevice,sothatthebroadsideofthesensorbody
isfacinginthedirectionofthedevice.
Onceallsensorsareplacedontopofthegroundinthecorrectzones,gobacktothe
abovegrounddeviceandrestartit(ifaPH100‐Bdevice)orstartthesensorpairing
activity.
3.Gobacktothezoneonesensor.Digaholeusingasmallshovelorahole‐cutter
approximatelyoneandquartertimesthelengthofthesensorandthreetimesthe
width(keepinginmindtheorientation.Burrythesensorandensureitisheardat
theintendedBaseStationorController.
PlacementofTheSensor
1.Usinga1.5”puttyknifeorsomethingsimilar,createahorizontalslitinthesoil,so
thecenteroftheslitis1.5”to1.75”belowthetopofthesoilandwithintheroot
zoneoftheplant.
2.Takesomedirtfromtheholeandperformafieldtesttoidentifythesoil’sphysical
propertieswhichwillbeusedlaterforsettingthezoneWetnessSettings(fieldtest
instructioncanbefoundinthemanualinAppendixB).
3.Turnthesensoronusingtheturnswitchatthebacksideofthesensor.Ensure
steps4–6arecompletedwithin1minuteofpoweringonofthesensor.Makesure
thewhiskerisattachedtothesensorbodypriortopoweringonofthesensor.
4.Insertthesensorbladeintotheslityoucreatedwithoutwigglingorapplyingany
side‐to‐sidepressureonthesensorblade.
5.Placethewhisker,loopsidedownsothatthetopisoutofthegroundatalevel
thatisclosetothelengthofthegrassorwhereitcanbecoveredbyathinlayerof
mulch,(Ifsensorislocatedinaplantingbed).
6.Burythesensorandwhisker,makingsuretopackthesoilfirmlyasyoufillthe
holeandplacetheturfcapbackon.
Operations
Oncethesensorisinstalleditwillrequirenointerventionfromuser,withthe
exceptionofchangeofbattery.Thedevicereportsitsbatterylevel.
